Nice one Mr TA. Optus ZTE Fit for $45 is the cheapest 4G phone yet, I think.
Quad core, 4.5 inch screen. Great value.

Yep that's it alright. Cheapest 4g phone yet.
Very similar to the well liked Huawei Y550

        • +3

It was well liked until the GPS issues.

Fit smart is the way to go and I'm getting one.

        • +4

          @Hotkolbas:

I bought the fit smart from woolies a couple of weeks ago. It doesn't have a magnetometer (compass), so some apps (like sky map and VR programs) don't work. Not a biggie for many people, but may be important for some.

GSMarena doesn't list whether phones have a magnetometer or not, so you wouldn't be able to discover this without buying one.

Also, the unusual position of the main (wake-up) switch is annoying, it's on the right-hand side, very easy to press it unintentionally.

        • +3

          I've got a Y550, it's great.

          @Russ:
          www.ztemobiles.com.au/feature_Fit_4G_Smart.htm

Doesn't indicate it on their site as well.

          @sween64:

If you like your 4g the zte has the 700 band that optus use and is a main band.

        • @Hotkolbas: yeah on optus I think many areas need the 700 band. I'm still using my Alcatel pop s3. That phone has 850/900 (so good for optus or telstra) and 700. It was $49 too and came with 3 months of Netflix at the time. I've had the Y550 too, the great thing was the ips screen was better than you usually find on the budget phones. Battery life was also outstanding.

    • Note that it only has 2GB of user available storage (despite 8GB internal). The Y550's 4GB is barely sufficient, so I don't think you'll be installing many applications on 2GB. Plenty of complaints on Whirlpool.

Also no 850mhz for 3g (Telstra).

      Apart from that, seems good!

      • +7

Actually there is a patch and you get 5gb of data now, also the new batches out should have the already installed.

      • +5

Can confirm it has 5.2gb storage once u d/l the firmware from ZTE website and follow the step by step instructions. Took few hours to figure it out. One of the steps should have been at beginning instead of end. Would have saved me 2 frustrating hours. Good phone for price. Only issue is viewing angle is poor when slightly off Centre.

        • +3

One of the steps should have been at beginning

Please elaborate to save everyone else the pain.

        • +5

          @Steptoe:

so after u d/l the procedure pdf file, approx 500kb, go to last page and find CDC driver issues. only run this when the steps u initially follow arent working. the number of steps are quite lengthy and require windows pc. u need to be a tech geek or younger family member to help with some of the procedures. wasnt as easy as i thought

    • Was $49 at woolies on last deal… good find

    • it's $3 to unlock on Ebay …… I think there might also be a lollipop ROM for it BUT not from Optus, so need to root the phone and flash it yourself.

But yeah …. even with KitKat, cheap 4G phone once unlocked.

    • Edit, forget I spoke, should've read all the comments first.

Sorry OT, but could that be unlocked for Voda?

  • +1

Thanks TA. Love your work. :-)

  • 2 question for the ZTE phone - is it unlockable and will it work with Telstra 4G?

  • Telstra Prepaid 3G Wi-Fi + 1GB data

Is this a USB stick that needs to be plugged in? Or a portable hotspot type with its own power?

      • Sweet. Pretty good price.

      • wow those are getting cheap

        • +1

          Because they are 3G

    • I'm pretty sure it is unlockable, but no use for me as I already tons of these 3G&4G modems

  • Thanks TA

  • To confirm: will the ZTE work with an Optus post-paid SIM?

    Thanks!

    • +1

Well, I am using one that is locked to Optus with a TPG post-paid SIM, so the answer is yes. TPG uses the Optus network.

  • Those Mars Bar icecreams are delish.

  • How's the battery life and call quality on the ZTE Fit Smart? Thinking of replacing my 8 year old Nokia dumbphone.

    • Colesworth phones are meant to be used on a permanent basis. Back-up phone - sure; exploiting an included voucher - definitely. Actually using them everyday? - no. Seriously, your Nokia will be more capable.

    • +1

The battery life is really excellent on these. I had one for a few months (still laying around as backup) but stopped using it because of the partition issue before it got fixed.

      • The battery life is really excellent on these.

Not compared to an old Nokia. I used to recharge mine every weekend, whether it needed it or not :-)

        • Apples to oranges much? :)

        • @elektron:

That is the context of the dmpiq's question. If someone says, "I like apples, are oranges sweet?" then a comparison is appropriate.

        • Thanks for the responses guys. Just saw the ZTE F286 in Coles. I'm presuming the latter will have a longer lasting battery life than the Fit?

  • The ZTE Fit… while I would prefer the LG Leon, this would be a great fit for my upcoming business. Thanks :)

I am using the ZTE Fit Smart 4g. I bought it from Officeworks when they had the deal. When patching the phone(performing a firmware upgrade) it needed(for me) to be run on a 32-bit computer. I have a 64-bit computer and had to revert back to a 32-bit laptop that i have sitting aside. Now that I have it patched it works fine. I really don't see the need for a Sammy or new apple. And when i installed a compass app it could not detect a magnetometer.

I hope they do the ZTE 4gX Buzz, Samsung Galaxy Trend+ or the Alcatel View 5 soon for the same price.
Same price as the current $99 Fit Smart but at least they work with Telstra 3G

    https://www.coles.com.au/our-range/our-products/mobile-phone…

    • Indeed. If I'm not mistaken the Buzz isn't only a great little phone but makes the best WiFi Hotsopt thanks to it's super 4G speed. Probably better to get a ZTE Buzz than the ZTE MF910.

Why is the specials list always almost entirely unhealthy highly processed salt and sugar laden junk (aka "treats") and almost no real food?

None of those things are awful by themselves, but when you see it in a list like that, its like a recipe for diabetes and a heart attack.

    • +1

And bloody cheap compared to healthy living.

      • +3

Fresh Broccoli been selling for $1.50/kg lately.

    • +1

      good point

    • +1

Ask Coles and Woolies, hopefully consumers do exercise to rid of the extra fat and sugars.
Otherwise it spells less sales eventually as their living consumers get less.

Personally I skip all the aisles containing highly processed food (sweets, chocolates, crips/chips, sugary drinks), unless there's a really irresistible bargain in there =P

    • +1

It's probably because thinking about these foods are shown to trigger areas in the brain that compell people to act upon their impulses. Fat, sugar and salt.

  • Cant wait to get the gift card for ds.

  • +1

Does anyone know if Officeworks still have the ZTE Fit in stock in general? It would end up $42.75 with 5% off.

  • +1

Bought the last one from Randwick yesterday, didn't realise that the sale started tomorrow but they still gave it to me.

    • none at Randwick Coles?

      • They may have got more stock but none on the 21st

  • hmm mine dosnt seem to work with a virgin sim. anyone else?

    • Works fine with Vaya over here. Has it started working yet?

      • detects networks fine, wont join them

  • Need help. Got permanently Network Locked by entering around ten times while trying to unlock ZTE fit. TIA

    • you're stuffed.

With Huawei phones they also provide you with an unblock code, but none with the ZTE Fit. At least not from where I bought it.

  • still no work with a virgin sim. detects the networks, wont connect.

  • Does anyone have the ZTE fit working on Amaysim without unlocking it?

    • +4

Yes – Bought one on Wednesday from Coles and is working well on amaysim without unlocking.

      • Thanks for that info. Great result.

      • Yes, can also confirm. Just bought Optus ZTE from Coles for $45. Put in an Amaysim and it works straight up.

  • CORRECTION? It's the Berri 2L juice that is $2.12, the 2.4L is $2.35.
