Baileys Irish Cream 1 Litre - $29.95 at Dan Murphy's (Equals $21 Per 700ml)

560

1st Choice have it for $42 so under $30 seems decent. In fact its $2 cheaper than 1st Choice are selling the 700ml bottle for.

The 1 Litre bottles contain ~1.43 times more of the good stuff than the smaller 700ml bottles. Great over ice, in cocktails, or in coffee (how I have it).

How does it compare to Aldi's O'Donnells Irish Cream ?

    • +2

Huh? So you've never tried Baileys?

    • Aldi's is a wine based product. This is spirit based. Not a MASSIVE difference in taste, but its still there.

    • So - how does the original compare to a wine based knock off?

      • Only one way to find out..

  • +1

This is just a price beat of BWS that have it for $30. 5 cent saving, yay!

  • real Ozbargainers make their own

  • -4

This tastes like metho with full fat chocolate big m. Just my 2c.

    • +1

You say that like it's a bad thing.

      • They use cheap whiskey masked with sugar and fat, read the reviews if you dont believe me. I just dont get why you wouldnt rather drink a nice smooth scotch for around the same price and add whatever you wanted in.

        • Tell me where you are getting 1L of a nice scotch for $30.

        • @tensionday:
Dan murphys. And you are only getting half a bottle in this, as half is chocolate milk.

        • @thedude23: there's no chocolate in this. Maybe you're thinking of Baileys Chocolat Luxe or Cadbury's Cream Liqueur?

        • @Thrift:
Nah, im talking about real scotch whiskey, with no metho taste. Then you can mix it how you please.

        • @thedude23: I can't find anything 'nice' for $30 at Dan's. 1L Irish Cream instead? Yes plz

        • -2

@tensionday: If you want to split hairs your getting about a 1/3 of 1L of whiskey, the rest is cream (which costs maybe $3-4). So you actually get more for your money when you purchase plain spirits.

But hey im not trying to convince anyone, im just putting the info out there.

        • -1

@thedude23: My main point is, you are comparing apples and oranges and acting as though your apples are so much better, when in reality, they're just sub-par.

If you're going to buy apples (scotch) at least buy some decent apples for a wee bit more $$$, otherwise you're pretentiousness will be shot down by those who fancy real scotches and Irish creams alike.

        • -1

@thedude23: You might as well buy Polmos Spirytus Rektykiowany then.

        • -2

          @tensionday:
Its whiskey based, so not really apples and oranges.
          Dont have to get personal.

        • -1

@thedude23: It is. One is a liqueur, the other is a spirit. Simple.

        • -2

          @tensionday:
Wow you cant let it go, after i told you not get personal.
From wikipedia - >A liqueur is an alcoholic beverage made from a distilled spirit that has been flavored with fruit, cream, herbs, spices, flowers or nuts and bottled with added sugar or other sweetener.

So basically whiskey mixed with cream is different (apples and oranges) to a liqueur. Mind = blown. And you call me pretentious?

          Arsewipe.

        • -1

@thedude23: Woah, ease up there sunshine, I was simply correcting a false point, no need to take it personally.

Baileys is more than just whiskey mixed with cream, the fact that it lasts longer than homemade Irish cream suggests that it is a far stabler emulsion than any homemade whiskey combinations. Hence it is better classed as a liqueur.

A good word of advice, don't be so sensitive about making mistakes on the internet.

          Peace dude

          @tensionday:
You called me pretentious when i was being really simplistic, and tried to call to split hairs and compare a liqeur and whiskey mixed with cream which is a liqueur anyway. Im only sensitive when someone calls me pretentious when they are wrong.

    • There's no chocolate in the original flavor, you sure you were drinking this??

  • Dang the free delivery code free100 just expired few days ago. thanks OP though

  • Ah so glad you posted this, you made me check the website. I prefer Feeney's and the Feeney's Luxurious Irish Cream Liqueur 1L is $29.99 so I'll be grabbing a bottle of that. Thank you.

  • How much is 1L at Costco? It seems to me it was under $30…

    • I was at costco and looked at %90 of the spirits. Most are on par with DM's prices except one bottle of wild turkey forgiven which was about $70 (about 20 cheaper than DM). Didnt see baileys price though (not that i was looking).

  • I tried to like this, I really did!

But I'm not a huge alcohol drinker, so I end up tasting the alcohol really strongly. I even had it mixed into a coffee with lots of milk and I was still almost gagging.

Any tips welcome! (aside from just drink more alcohol thanks :))

    • Hah, maybe you put too much in, for your taste.
Just a dash (maybe a teaspoon) in a cup of coffee is enough for flavour. I find it sinks to the bottom (colder than the coffee) so mild flavour and then a tasty hit at the end.

I've tried a few alternative Irish creams (to save a few $ when Baileys not on special) but never found one that (to me) tastes as good as the original. The wine based ones especially are no comparison to the whiskey originals.

      • +1

Completely agree with you, I substitute bailey's as the milk in my coffee almost every morning and every time I try to find a cheaper replacement I end up chucking it out because it tastes feral.

    • -1

Don't feel too bad, baileys is crap if you ask me. Wait till you try a real smooth scotch like famous grouse.

  • How does this compare to O'Mara's Irish Country Cream , Father O'Learys Velvet Cream, Kilkenny Cream Liqueur , Cowboy shots etc

    • +1

      Its totally next level.
Or not.. depending on your taste buds.
      Compare how?

      • Cost vs taste really, is it worth paying twice as much for the baileys

        • No-one but you can tell if it tastes better to you than the others.
A side by side taste test is the only way to know. You could buy one of those little 50ml bottles.

I can tell you I've tried a couple of others purely because they were cheaper, and regretted it (tasted "funny" to me) and so now only ever buy Baileys. If I spent $20 on 1 Ltr of something else, Id consider it $20 wasted, not $10 saved.

But if you are used to another brand, you may prefer it over Baileys. And thats OK.

Its worth noting, Baileys seems to be considered the most popular / premium Irish Cream. Could just be clever marketing.. but it certainly passes the taste test for me.

        • @systmworks:

Cool I'll give it a shot, also do you drink this straight as it isn't very strong at all?

        • @strikerzebra: I add to my coffee, so a bottle lasts a couple of months.
I also like over ice with some milk (maybe 1/3rd Bayleys, to 2/3rds milk) which makes it last a lot longer, and its tasty without being too strong.
That said, its good straight as well, but you can chew through a bottle in a night.

        • @systmworks:

          Thanks for the tips

        • @strikerzebra: I'm rather fond of a slippery nipple myself.

    • +2

The only one that's close to Bailey's is feeney's.

  • Half Bailey's / Half Chambord in a shot glass. Jam Donut!

  • Creative Cowboy Butterscotch Cream is $24 for a 2L bag. You can taste the wine base but it's 18% and not bad.

  • +1

The best way to drink this is with lots and lots of ice.
This is the first alcoholic drink I've ever had and its still my favourite.
