    Glare 15.6' NTSC:45% N/A Touch HD 1366x768 16:9 LED Back-lit Slim 200nits

My laptop 8 years ago had a resolution of 1440x900. I have no idea why this resolution is still in use.

    • yep no idea either… by now you'd think even cheaper laptops would come with higher res or god forbid full HD screens ….

      • its because a large majority of people dont care and they will complain FHD "makes the icons look too small"

these things are used by mums and dads on email skype facebook and crap

        • lol true..

    • I agree. My frustration is: why did pc makers downgrade from the previously common 16:10 resolutions of 1440x900 or 1680x1050 to crappy "HD" 1366x768?

We really don't need our pc's screens to match tv/video resolutions. 1366x768 is an awful hybrid of tv and pc resolutions … trying to be HD, which is really 1280x720, but that's too small. Then tried to match with the common 1024x768 but pushed it out to 16:9 widescreen. It's just terrible.

Match the screen size with the resolution. 14" 1440x900 would be ok. 15" 1680x1050 seemed to work well for lots of people. These should be the "base" resolutions, then people can upgrade to full hd or whatever else they want.

I just think it's crap that HDTV somehow killed off every resolution between "HD" and "FHD" on computer screens.

      /end rant

  • A good price given the specs. Except for the screen res of course. But thats normal for budget laptops.
Whats also normal and what you have to watch out for is crappy keyboards. Make sure you visit a DSE to try-before-buy so as to avoid surprises.

  • for $700's its not bad, dont find much in that price range these days

I've been hunting laptop deals for a week or so now. Dick's current discounted ones (there are a few with $2-300 off, before 30%) are all reasonable for a brick and mortar retailer, with new-ish 5th gen processors. (Dell has 6th gen Inspirons on sale on eBay too). The 30% does make it a very good value for money laptop, given the specs. As noted in my rant about the screen, I'm not a fan of the resolution, but it's par for the course at this price. At the original $1299 I'd be cranky, but not for $769.

Note: I bought (and posted) a higher spec refurb for my in laws from oo.com.au that I think is better value. It's about $20 more if anyone wants FHD with their i7 8GB 1TB decent GPU laptop. I personally think FHD is overdoing it a little on a 15.6" for my in laws, but infinitely (sarcasm) better than the alternative.
