TP-Link Archer D9 Modem Router $198 + Free Ship + Bonus IP Camera by Redemption @ Wireless1

1910
CCRAPFAST

UPDATE: The Wireless1 guys have agreed to extend this deal to Monday midnight. Enjoy :)

Good morning OzBargain - our favourite router has returned!

The Story
Inspired by legendary tightarse’s great work, and the number of requests for D9 on my previous D7 post I have spent the last 2 Thursday night’s ignoring my girlfriend’s requests for shopping and instead nagging/negotiating (nagotiating?) the guys at Wireless1 to do this for the best price ever. It wasn’t an easy feat given the tanking AUD which crossed into 69c again last Thursday, but I hope you guys like this deal.

The Deal
Presenting the TP-Link Archer D9 Modem Router WITH Free Shipping AND Bonus Wireless Night Vision IP Camera (new model NC-220 by redemption) for $198 after applying the code CCRAPFAST in cart. There is no option for pickup online but they have agreed to this for us. The secret handshake is mentioning you are from OzBargain and saying the code :) You can then pay cash/credit and collect right away - of course Camera is still by redemption so you have to wait for that.

Needless to say, as part of the ‘nagotiations’ I have done my usual checks and this is the cheapest price going (ever?). In fact just tested the code and while we agreed at $198 it’s showing as $197.99 so save yourself 1c before that’s fixed lol.

For coverage, speed and stability at this price point, the D9 can’t be beaten. Feel free to google around for reviews, it’s very well received. The free day/night wireless IP camera just sweetens the deal. The NC-220 is a brand new model and I couldn’t find many reviews but if the previous NC-200 is anything to go by it should be pretty good. According to specs it connects at 300Mbps and has real-time H.264 compression so am very keen to test it. Seems to retail around the $70 mark and if it doesn’t catch your fancy then offload on eBay/Gumtree for a further $50 or so 'cashback' on this great router!

The Thanks
Thanks to the guys at Wireless1 for agreeing to this deal. Felt a bit creepy/stalkerish hanging around your shop for so many hours while we nutted this out but everyone was very friendly :)

I think I managed to put together a decent deal for our community. Have a great weekend y’all!

The End :)

  • Ordered. Hope I made good purchase.

    Thank you.

  • What is the difference between Archer D9 and Archer VR900
    http://www.tp-link.com/resources/simulator/Archer%20VR900(UN)1.0/index.htm

    • Probably not a lot of difference between them interface wise, but the VR900 has VDSL support (not of much use in Australia) and also 3G/4G support, which to be honest seems like it should have been included on the D9 as it's fairly common on some of the competitive brands, especially at the mid-high end.

  • Bought the D7 for $142. What is more stable or reliable? or is the only difference is power range

    • +3

      main differences between the D7 and D9

      2.4 ghz

      D7 = 450M
      D9 = 600M with beamforming

      5 ghz

      D7 = 1300M
      D9 = 1300M with beamforming

      usb

      D7 = usb2 x 2
      D9 = usb3 x 1 usb2 x1

      D9 SPEC:

      ADSL:BCM6318+BCM6301;Router:BCM4709(CPU)+BCM4360(2.4G)+BCM4360(5G);

      BCM4709(CPU)DUAL CORE 1GHz
      RAM/Flash
      ADSL:Flash:2MB;DDR3:256MB

  • Thanks, OP, got one for my sister.

  • What's the wireless range like on this? compared to the ASUS DSL-AC68U?

    Was waiting for the ASUS to get discounted but it seems they never will :(

    This router modem has an adapter that output 12V at 3.3A which means it may consume more(due to SMPS efficiency) than 39.6 Watts at full load. So you might want to think twice before upgrading if your old router modem uses less wattage as these devices run 24x7 may have a tiny impact on your electricity bills. However it may also use less power during idle or light loads, I am not sure I need to measure it.

    The latest firmware updates the UI which looks sleek and this modem router is blazing fast in terms of data delivery and also web controls and management. Super rock stable too. I have setup a few with one at a client's site serving 45 employees with wired and wireless connections. It is much more capable than an usual home router modem due to higher processing power.

    Buyers also note that this modem router brand TPLink is straight from China, so some suspect that it has firmware made for the spy at Chinese government, you may want to consider installing one of the open source modem router firmware such as OpenWRT. This may or may not be true, perhaps competitors is spreading wild rumors to weaken sales.

    • +2

      Highly doubt that the firmware is made to "spy". Some nerds would of found out. The public would rip TP-Link a new one if that was the case.

      • They just wait for the USA to spy on you then hack all the data from them.
        :P

  • -1

    I guess ASUS might be better. What is cheapest DSL-AC-68U ?

    • You could get the ASUS RT with a separate modem ~$30 or so, so wouldn't make the price as much.

  • Hi does anyone know if I can use it with BigPond ADSL? My equipment is 3 years old and my kids (4 of) are always complaining about the lag/freezing??

    • +2

      Yes, you can use the modem with any ADSL internet service.

      Your old equipment may not necessarily be causing the lagging/freezing problems (3 years is not very old). Other possible factors include distance from exchange, noise on the line, ADSL filters, WiFi interference, etc).

      • Ok thanks 1bug

  • +1

    Has anyone received shipping confirmation yet? Mine still says processing…

    • +2

      Same here, status is "processing".

      • +1

        Just contacted them, mine will be shipping out in 3 days. Sad as I wanted it sooner rather than later but I'm just glad they didn't forget about me. Probably got hundreds of orders and one staff member tasked with processing it all.
        :P

        • +2

          Woo Hoo! Just got confirmation that it has been dispatched!

        • +1

          Same here… Mine will be shipping out in 3 days if they receive stock by the end of today…

        • My order is still showing as Processing, but now the auspost tracking number is showing that parcel is in transit (processed through Chullora NSW at 11am). I'm thinking I should have it in Melbourne tomorrow (fingers crossed).

  • So does anyone know if this actually is a VDSL modem? I asked my ISP and they say I will ned a VDSL modem. Bought this modem router because it said it was "Suitable for ADSL/2/2+ and NBN"

    • +1

      You have answered your own question. ie no mention of VDSL. You will need configure the applicable ethernet port from LAN to WAN and connect that to a VDSL modem, to take full advantage of the TP Link's features.

  • +3

    Damn it I've been waiting for a deal on the D9 for months and the one time I'm away for the weekend and can't check OzB it goes on sale!! :(

    Any chance you can organise another one ;)?

  • FYI, I ordered mine around the midnight Mon extended deadline and received it this morning

    Thanks OP, hope it's as good as everyone says :)

  • Got the one I ordered for a friend, today. These guys are pretty good, so don't worry fellas.

  • +13

    Hey everyone,

    Thank you for all the orders! I apologise on being behind schedule for dispatchment because of larger than expected order quantity as well as having to payment check each one. However in saying that we managed to dispatch 90% of orders yesterday, with the final 10% of all orders dispatched today despite having a very small packing team :)

    Honestly, we were quite taken aback with how much support you have all shown us, and we hope to be able to bring you more deals like this in the future (so keep your eyes peeled for our specials)!

    If you have any concerns or issues with your order feel free to PM me or just post it in this thread and I will do my best to respond to your enquiries in a timely fashion.

      • Same here,

        Paid by paypal, finger cross then..!!

        • Hi kenz2005,

          I have replied to your PM, let me know if there are anymore hiccups!

      • Hi ozone141,

        Please PM me your invoice number or order number and I will chase this up for you!

    • Hi rep, what are the chances of having a replacement psu shipped to me express? My modem came with a dead psu, I tested a 12v 1a psu (underpowered) with it and it turned on, the one in the box does not, super bummed.

      • Hi there Russticles,

        Please send me a PM with your invoice number or order number, and I will give you further details on getting a replacement to you as soon as possible!

  • As this is my first TP-Link device, I thought of testing this modem/router. 2.4ghz is very stable on all devices (Apple/Non-Apple). 5.0ghz has been super flakey. How is everyone else liking it so far??

    • +1

      Same here. I'm also seeing some error packets in the Advanced menu section. Trying to get advice on whirlpool.

      Stability is good but wireless coverage seems similar to my older tplink router.

    • +1

      Make sure your firmeware is up to date.
      http://www.tp-link.com/en/download/Archer-D9.html#Firmware

      The latest version is released on Aug 26th.

      • +1

        Very good point! Do the firmware before configuring the router. I spent 15 ish mins setting it all up then noticed a firmware update… it kept some of my settings but not all.
        :)

        On another note, this router is rocking my jocks!

        • Very impressed.. especially after updating the D9 to Firmware Version: 0.9.1 0.1 v0041.0 Build 150826 Rel.42046n. I have been running for over a week with no dropouts at all on both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz.

          One thing I have noticed after updating the D9 with new firmware is that it does not show how long the router has been on or connected.

          Thanks for the advice scrimshaw..

    • Have to say super impressed with it. I was running a TP-Link W8960N on the top floor. The signal was too weak for my desktop 15 m on the bottom floor and my ASUS Air media player about another 5 m away was unusable.

      With this unit, I have disabled the 5.0 gHz and just running 2.4 at 50% and all is great.

      Today, I took my girls out to the park at the front of our house. I was even able to surf the net on my Lumia 1520 from the park with the line of site being probably 50-60 metres away!!! (not sure if this is good for security though :-(((

      Amazing.

      Cheers.

  • Set this up last night. Found that I was getting very slightly slower ADSL2+ speeds than my old Billion 7404, but my modem equipment area looks a lot neater now with just one device.

    I was previously using a C7 with firewall rules to block Google DNS specifically to my Chromecast and Roku3. After upgrading the firmware on the D9 there didn't seem to be a spot to put these rules in, so I had to just put in an overall static route for Google DNS.

    I was a bit worried as after multiple reboots of the D9 and my devices, Netflix/Hulu was not working on my Roku3 or my Android phone.

    However, today everything is working again, so strange. Maybe the Netflix apps need to try the Google DNS multiple times before it decides it can't reach them and then default to your supplied DNS settings?

  • bought 2, one for dad.
    He told me he has adsl but turns out he has optus cable.

    so i'm selling the spare one.
    brand new and sealed.
    with invoice for warranty etc.

    I could return it, and lose postage costs.
    but offering it here for $190 pickup only (from 4127).

    add $5 for personal delivery within 25km :)

    message me for my mobile number..
    or send me yours and i'll get in touch.

    first in first serve.

    • sold.

  • Anyone received their free camera yet?

    • Negative, however they said it could take 60 days.
      :\

  • I just got my free camera in the mail today.
    :)

    • Oh, and the extra gift was a TP-Link pen of the lowest quality, but free is free! Woo!

      • Mine arrived today too… with a noisy power supply! Should I be concerned that there's a high pitched squeal coming from it? The modem came with a dead power supply (which cost me $10 to send back) and now the camera has arrived with a noisy psu. sigh

        • Oh wow, that sucks!
          I've sold mine so have no idea if the PSU squeals…

  • Say…its been almost 2 months now. How about another deal wireless1? Please :)

  • Yay…. Free tp link pen
