Here is a screenshot from Crystal DiskInfo

        http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/14246/34042/wd.png

Explanation of the WD model number
        http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/other/2579-001028.pdf
        WD - 50 E F R X

        50 - 5TB
        E - TB/3.5-inch
        F - Desktop NAS/WD Redâ„¢
        R - 5400 RPM with 64 MB cache
        X - SATA 3 Gb/s, 6 Gb/s capable with 22-pin SATA connector

Since it is a RED drive, I think it is still worth its price at $197 if it is still available.

        • Just picked up my drive and can also confirm the BAD drive I got is a EFRX RED Drive. Used Crystal DiskInfo to check.

          Cheers :)

Seems like a bit of a lottery. Bought two last night from Dandenong and two this morning from Fountain Gate.

All of them BAD. Nothing to distinguish them apart except the serial and HN's date on the label (0918 vs 0927). The ones from Dandenong were WD50EFRX and the ones from Fountain Gate were WD50EZRX.

Bit annoyed as I wanted matching ones for RAID5. Oh well, first World Problems…

Incidentally, the Reds had manufacture date of Jan15, the Greens were Jun15.

  • My serial was BAD, checked all drives there and they were all BAD. The tech assistant said the whole batch were BADS but I will open mine up shortly and tell you if its a RED or not then.

    • I am very bad at opening up these enclosures, most of the clippers will be broken. That was why I use Crystal Disk Info to check instead of killing the case.

BTW, How many did you buy ?

      • I might as well do that as well. Not a bad idea to actually check the drive works before I take it apart anyway! Just bought the one although, I would have bought several if I knew they were guaranteed REDS.

        • Confirming I have the EZRX green drive after running crystaldiskinfo :(. Oh well, still not a bad deal!

Well I just got JB HiFi to beat Harvey Norman's price!

    Got 2x 5TB drives for $180 each.

    Receipt copy:
    http://tinypic.com/r/33cbxvl/8

    Store: JB HIFI Kotara (NSW).

    • very nice. Is it a BAC or BAD out of interest?

      • Both are BAD models.
But going from the comments above they could be red or green.
Doesn't really worry me, they are mainly going to be backup drives anyway.

    • I was able to get 2 for 180ea as well at JB HiFi at Canberra Centre. BAD on the box but hvnt had a chance to plug them in and check what they really are.

  • HN Fyshwick in the ACT has stock, all BAD models.

  • Picked up mine from HN Moore Park. THink there were 3 left.

Box said BAD (Green) model, just ran Crystal Disk and found out there's a red model inside. Thanks, TA! happy with my purchase :)

  • ok so HN near me have a few left, but they are not online. so??? how do i get one with $25 voucher?

    • You don't unfortunately. I think HN pulled the deal online coz they were onto us :)

      • +1

        onto what? theres no scam

        • If you read through the comments, there's instances of multiple $25 credits. Maybe they got jack of it, or maybe they were losing money at $172? Who knows.

    • +1

If they are selling it for $197 not $248. It might still be a deal if it is a RED drive inside.

  • unbelievably, I only opened up 1 of my 2 BAD and it was a green. Just checked this post and saw that people were cracking out REDs from BAD serials. Low and behold I crack the second case and there is a RED. So 1 out of 2 ain't bad… However since I plan to mirror them both probably would have prefferred if they were the same..
I got them from different stores, so no idea which one came from where.

  • Bought the last 3 they had the the Gepps Cross store in Adelaide. Just checked them all with CrystalDisk and they are all 50EFRX models :)

Pity they didn't have more… going to go to the other stores tomorrow morning to pick up 1 more for my microserver, so hopefully it's a Red as well if it's from a different store.

    • Woodville store has greens :( oh well, will run 3 reds and 1 green since I'm not running raid.

  • Damn..got 50EZRX :(

  • Anyone got Red in Brisbane?

  • I picked up one from HN Canberra and it was a Red. Jackpot!

    • +1

The two I got from JB HiFi at Canberra Centre were also reds!

    • Upvote the deal?

  • Got the RED one, didn't open it, but used CrystalDiskInfo, WD50EFRX. Thanks for the one providing the information.. feel much better now. BARGAIN! Picked it up from HN Alexandria.

    • Same here, Used Crystal Disk Info.

Brilliant price for a RED Disk!!!

      Thanks everyone :)

      • I checked most stores still sell it at low $300.

    • HN outlet centre on Gardners Road ? or 84 O'Riordan St?

      • Online - O'Riordan St

        • cool was it BAC or BAD?

        • BAD but when I did check with CrystalInfo, confirmed it is RED one

  • 4.54TB???? so where is the missing 500GB? That's very misleading.

    • I swear this comes up every time there is a hard drive deal…

The simple answer is manufacturers are not lying. The prefix T "tera" means 10^12 and a 5 terabyte drive contains this many bytes. However computers work in base 2 not base 10 which means to a computer a "tera"byte is actually more like 1.1TB however this is generally referred to as a Tebibyte (google it) hence the quotes around tera. Some operating systems like Windows use the incorrect prefix which can cause confusion. If you plug it into a unix/linux based machine it will be shown as 5000GB (4547GiB) or something similar.

      • So it's actually 5TB?

        • Yes

  • Anyone know if "Sorry, your order has been delayed" means it will get cancelled?

    • My order still says 'Processing'…

    • +1

I'm in the same boat as well. Paypal account was hit. Called QV Melbourne and they said they would restock. Fingers crossed anyway.

    • Yeah.. I ordered friday 5.30pm, then went into the store on saturday morning and was told that the guy who does click & collects goes home at 5.30.. Apparently they called me to tell me that it has been put on backorder (even tho it clearly said in stock)..

      So yeah.. HN strikes again..

      • I JUST got an email saying that it was delayed after ordering it around 11:30am on Friday.

    • I ordered on the 10th for delivery (no stokc local store) and it still says order: new.

      What does new mean?

  • People who got Red out of DCADBAD What is your serial number start with .. Is your serial number starts with WX11.

    • +1

Well I just picked up both of mine and they're both Greens. Both are BAD, and one has a serial beginning with WX11 and the other has a serial starting with WX31.
At least I only paid 172 for each. :)

  • I have opened one of mine(got 2) and it is indeed a Red.

  • I got a Red with mine according to CrystalDisk (WD50EFRX).

    Serial number is WX11

    DCADBAD

  • +1

Basically no way to check pre purchase?

  • +1

Picked mine up from Hoppers Crossing this arvo and cracked it open and I have a green.. Serial no WX11D153XXXX

    • So you managed to get the confirmation email in the end? I'm still waiting for mine.

      • +1

Yeah.. they sent me an email around lunchtime yesterday.. picked it up at 5.30.. there were about 6 other drives waiting for pickup..

        • Lucky you!

        • @Cigaweedz: So you're waiting for a call from hoppers? just call them up… i'm sure they'd have it..

        • @Vladdo:
Nah, man. I placed my order with HN QV (I know, stupid me. I should have picked a lesser known place) And I'm not sure if I can change the pickup location.

Edit: Spoke to HN Hopper's Crossing after changing my order reroute to their store and now theirs is at -3 stock availability. And Norman, the guy I spoke to say that they're all coming from the same stock, so basically we're all in the same boat. So why, when I ordered mine on Friday 3.30pm, you get yours first and I still haven't gotten my confirmation email. Sigh

Edit2: Reroute didn't happen. Still sticking to QV. Called them as well and still no stock.

  • Well, the confirmation/pickup email finally came today. Got myself a BAD unit @ WD Green.

  • BAD, Green, serial WX21

  • 2/2 reds wx11 BAD

  • Anyone find this slow to spin up from sleep? Takes ages to play the first video from Kodi…
