I own this and I have to be honest. Even though the phone is well priced, the camera is terrible. Terrible. it's well documented and updates wont change it. So unfortunately good find, but I would go something else. i often look at the other deals and think.. maybe I should get an LG G4 or Sony Z5

Can you explain what is wrong with the camera? I don't see why it's a big issue for most people, majority of people upload pictures to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter so regardless of the quality will look fine. There seems to be this expectation on smartphone cameras to be dslr quality these days when it is just not possible.

Hopefully HTC will improve their camera experience in the next One as its a near perfect phone bar the camera.

I assure you, if you want to buy this phone have a look at some youtube videos.
The camera when recording a video has no stabilzation so everything is jerky. It's bad in low light, it doesnt autofocus well, its bad in normal light. Many photos are blurred. The selfie camera is quite good in low light, but still not good.
Most smart phones use Sony sensor.
I could only suggest googling but it's good except for that. It gets warm, but no issue. Speakers are quite good. UI is fine, look is good, buttons are ok. Camera is not good.

I have this phone. The camera is crazy bad in low light, there is a lot of noise in the pictures and its obvious that the quality plain sucks. Now when I say 'low light', it still sucks in reasonably lit places. The only time it doesn't completely suck is when you're outside or in a place lit by the sunshine.

Second, I don't know if anyone else has this problem but the battery life sucks…I can't get through a whole day even when I'm constantly on battery saver mode. My galaxy s3 had better battery life and I'm just not impressed here. I have to bring my power bank with me everywhere.

I bought the phone because I really wanted the front facing speakers, and I still love them, they are great. I like everything else about the phone, but simply cannot recommend it to anyone due to the camera and battery life. More and more phones are doing stereo front facing speakers now so this isn't even HTC's selling point any more.

I'm pleasantly surprised by the battery life, it uses no battery when in standby mode and I usually get two days off a charge.

@Tasmaniac: I too am happy with battery. maybe there is an update you can do. It, even used a lot, will do a whole day easy.
Also the speakers arent as lud as I thought they would be. Still good. But speaker phone isnt good, its too quiet

        • @Tasmaniac: Yeah I thought HTC phones were usually pretty good for holding their charge. Guess it depends on how much you use the phone too.

      • there seems to be this expectation on smartphone cameras to be dslr quality these days

Says who? Most people expect their phones camera IQ to perform as well as a p&s camera, which is reasonable. Lg g4, s6 and iphones can already almost do that.

agree. Have heard that the camera is not so good compared with other phones. I would stay away

The M8 or M7 also has a problem with the camera … i think some phones experienced a purple strip in the images. Something to do with overheating chip

      • Have you owned a HTC One M7/M8/M9 phone before?

Keen to here from more people who have owned this phone rather than just basing opinions off online reviews.

        • Its a common problem with HTC phones. Something to do with the design and location of the chip next to the camera

        • @easternculture: Seems like the problem with most phones, trying to cram even more powerful internals into a smaller, slimmer package with better battery life. There always will be a trade off and it seems consumers prefer slim devices over thicker ones with better battery life and cooling for the processor.

It's interesting that Samsung phones don't have a similar problem since their camera is located in the same position.

        • @ShamelessBargains:

It was a major issue with the M7. Never got that issue on M8. HTC replace the phones that did develop the purple tint issue.

More expensive than goodguys eBay making this pointless.

      • He posted this when it was linked to JB HIFI

He also posted it after seeing the GoodGuys Ebay deal above. Seems he was intent on discrediting my deal further.

@ShamelessBargains: He didn't neg your "deal" and you shouldn't have changed the store it was for. Grow up.

        • @pmupsinep: That's your opinion and you are entitled to it.

There was no reason for him to post up another lower price since it had already been highlighted 3 minutes ago.

@ShamelessBargains: He can post whatever he wants. Have a sook much?

        • @pmupsinep: Fair enough. When's the last time you posted a deal on Ozbargain anyway?

        • @ShamelessBargains:
          3 minutes? Really?
Ever consider that TA opened the page before Bhaaweeck had posted their comment?
Maybe TA had to go to the toilet, answer a phone call, or do anything that took them away from their computer?

    • Thanks.
