That's a lot of items! Considering they have regular 10% codes, as well as some semi regular 20% sales on eBay etc, I won't bash my head trying to come up with 5 items. They've also excluded the best cases for using the discount by excluding multiple purchases of the same product.

Anyway, I'm sure some will find it useful, just not for me.

    • [quote]Cannot be used in conjunction with any other promotional offer including docket discounts.

      • Exactly. Maybe I wasn't clear. I meant I'd just use the other regular discount instead of having to buy 5 items to essentially get the same.

  • I need to buy 4 lawnmowers and a nail. I can save 0.004% :)

    • +2

They need to be 4 different lawnmowers though

Multiple purchases of the same products do not qualify.

Interesting… wonder if different values of gift cards qualify as the same products?

You could quite conceivably buy $500, $499, $498, $497 and get $496 free LOL

    • +1

      Try it and report back.

    • +4

Gift Cards won't be included as it is on products, sorry to be a Debbie downer

      • Didn't think so, but no mention in the terms. Thanks :)

  • I thought 'buy 1 get the 2nd half price' is hard enough already. Now this deal brings it to a new level. Lots of people will be walking around trying to find 5 different items to maximize the discount but walk out without buying anything.

Correction: 5 different items of similar value!!

I went into Masters at North Paramatta last Sunday morning : Loud music, a crowd of hungover teens, and they did not have what I needed.
When I asked where the lawnmower were, the guy said to check the garden section. Great, I think I could have come up with that too.
Did he come with me to "assign" me to a employee there? ( the shop was empty, still I had to ask for assistance ) NO. Did he get me someone from garden section? No.
Did I buy a lawnmower? No! …. I went straight for the exit.
No wonder they are not doing well.

Sounds like Bunnings service to me

      • They don't have 'Better home and Garden' to promote them. Some unrealistic TV show that suggests you can renovate a kitchen/bathroom in 1 day.

I find this fairly typical of Woolworths, they boast of giving many their first job. I translate this to paying cheapest wages and exposing customers to staff in need of work experience at best and in need of their their parents to come do their work in too many cases. My experience I go to woolworths and get teenagers gossiping and swearing and playing with phones at coles always adults and working.

Best possible discount you can achieve is 20%.

    eg 5x $200 = 1000 - 1x $200 = 20%

This is on the basis that you find 5 different products you actually want at the exact same price, otherwise your discount starts dropping off.

    • +7

      Your math is impeccable.

      • Truth be told, I had 10% until i got the calculator out!

    • +1

Nearly, to qualify the cheapest item of five is free so the best that can be achieved is 19.99%.
Seems like a very gimmicky way of offering a promotional discount for a hardware store.
More suited to Spotlight or Dimmeys/Forges. They wont add to their credibility with this kind of thing.

      • +1

all BOGOF deals have the cheapest as the free one, they usually say "at equal or lesser value" I am sure Masters meant to specify that.

      • Maximum is indeed 20%… if the five items have the exact same price, to the cent!

  • Excludes all project purchases such as kitchen, laundry and bathroom projects.
How are they going to manage this? flat out refuse the 5th item free as your purchased a bench top for the kitchen, a vanity for the bathroom, a sink for the kitchen and bathroom and a laundry tub.
I'd just say my kitchen, laundry and bathroom purchases is not part of any project as masters have not defined what a project is. No project team or budget on my part, so stick it masters.

    • A project is where Masters designs and potentially manages the installation of a Kitchen, Laundry or Bathroom for you. If you are buying individual products from these departments they will not be excluded from this offer.

      • Thank you for elaborating, I didn't know Masters can design project manage the install of your improvement projects. :) happy ozbargining.

        • Why, don't you want to renovate your three bathrooms, kitchen and two bedrooms in one day like on Better Homes and Gardens?

        • @Jesmond:
Oh not yet, just finished painting the exterior, got landscaping, concreting to do.
If BHG's want to pitch in contact me :)

The only use I can find for this if you want to buy some seedlings, seeds or something like that so you can get the 5th one free if you buy 5 different varieties.

    • Maybe buy 5 different brands of mulch.

  • I'm building a retaining wall and can get 5 different galvanised posts so it's good for me.

    • nvm

Not bad to get 20% off at a hardware store. Never seen bunnings offer discounts so happy Masters are introducing some competition

    • +1

Could have offered 20% off in a much simpler way if they seriously want to catch up with Bunning.

  • Plants are on special. But could i get 4 discounted plants and still get the 5th plant for free?
HIPAGES10 didnt work on the discounted plants either…

    • only includes full priced items

  • Prices at Masters are not the issue, they are quite comparable and with the frequent specials are often better than Bunnings. Availability of staff has improved too recently - and has gone down at my local Bunnings, things are evening out in that respect.

The problem is the chaotic shop layout, shelf layout and a lack of 'cleaning up'. I needed some PVC stormwater pipe connectors with different angles. I also wanted to grab some silicone sealant that was on special. I went to Masters. After 30 exhausting minutes I left with only half the parts I needed. No T-junction to be found, not alone and not with staff help. Every item in that aisle was out of place with price tags never matching items. The silicone sealant on special was not with all the other ones but near the stormwater pipes, 20 aisles away. I had already given up on it when happened to stumble on it.

Today I went to Bunnings. Took me 3 minutes all up to find the parts I needed. Prices according to website identical, but items so much easier to find.

The same was true when I needed some irrigation pieces a couple of weeks ago.

I truly wish Masters success, there has to be competition to Bunnings. But how they can be so incompetent still after a few years is beyond me.

Same with the website: searches don't find products, even if they are actually available. Try searching for 'plywood' - you won't find proper big sheets unless you know the brand they stock. Searching for 'ecoply' will show them. Descriptions on their website are often incomplete or incorrect.

What a badly run business! I don't want them to go bust, but at the moment every shopping experience there is so annoying that I will only go there with a discount voucher.
