One for the garden and one for trimming the bush.

  • Any good ?

    • No experience with B&W tools but on paper they appear better than Ozito, maybe not quite as good as Ryobi. But I have no idea… anyone used them before?
They come with a 2y warranty. So at these prices probably worth the risk.

  • +1

Anyway to buy the hedge trimmer and get the string trimmer free instead?
Seems like I get 2 of the same item.

    • +1

The catalogue which got delivered to my place suggests if you buy one, you can get another item free. My impression is that it doesn't have to be the same item.

  • +1

Anyone willing to swap to get one of each? I'm in Blackburn VIC.

    • I'm getting a trimmer, want to share the price?

  • +1

Awesome deal! I bought a leaf blower including using the 10% off code. I'll sell the second one on eBay — should be able to recover most of the cost of the first one!

Just spoke with their live chat.

    I quote…
"Yes you can mix and match the products. However, our website is currently in the process of being fixed to allow that option and we are hoping that by lunch time it will be good to go."

  • Anyone know if they come with one battery or two? I guess if you get two tools you'll have two batteries, but are they interchangeable?

    • They come with one battery and one charger each.

  • But it's Black and Decker, not a bargain

    • I have had my Black and Decker blower for 2.5 years now. I use it frequently still works great.

    • Even at $95 each? Seems like a bargain.
I thought B&D was ok. A little better than your lower tier Ozito's and cheap Chinese varieties. Where are B&D made and what is the warranty period?

      • $85 each even better with code :)

        • +1

Oh yes forgot. Surely worth a try at those prices.

  • only 18v? wouldn't trust that line trimmer….

    Quick bit of research…

    Blower

    2y Aust warranty
    Manual

    Headge Trimmer

    2y Aust warranty

    Haven't looked into the trimmer

Quick comparison with similar products available at Bunnings

      Blowers

      • Ozito $59 18v Li - battery and charger not included (extra $89) - Only 10min run time on 1.5Ah battery. So basically pretty shite.
      • Ryobi $89 18v Li - battery and charger not included (extra $99) - 22 minutes run time on a 5.0Ah battery
      • AEG $99 18V Li - Commercial grade - battery and charger not included (extra $199)

So the B&D ($85 with deal) probably sits between the Ozito ($148) and the Ryobi ($188).

      Hedge Trimmers

      • Ozito $109 18v Li - 1.5Ah battery (included) - 11mm cutting capacity
      • Ryobi $109 18v Li - 1.5Ah battery (included) - 10mm cutting capacity
      • Ryobi $139 18V Li - Battery and charger not included (extra $99) - 18mm cutting capacity

Again the B&W hedge trimmer with 18mm cutting capacity and 2Ah battery probably sits between the two Ryobi's and looks like good value at only $85 (with deal).

  • Right now checkout appears to be broken. Adding 2 x $189 ($378) items to the cart triggers promotional discount of $378 resulting in total of $0.00. Problem is you can't checkout with a total of $0.00. So I added some other small items to my order and it's gone through! Perhaps I will have to fix up in store??

    • Try and get the 10% discount at the store as you would have done so on this deal.

    • It's been fixed now. Deal working as expected. Will have to see what happens with my order.

      • My order has now been cancelled. Will be reordering now they have fixed the bug. ;)

  • Cannot use the promo code. Masters say I need to do in-store shopping. Anyone got the promo code to work online?

    • The promo code THANKYOU10 will give you 10% off (unsure if this works online).
The BOGOF offer shown in this thread will be applied automatically during checkout when you order one of the eligible products.

      • +1

It worked before. I think when they updated the deal it stopped working.

        • @stuckster > BOGOF works, but the promo code is not accepted.
@Jase2801 > Yeah, seems to be the case. They must be validating the email against ones in their database.

        • @kotobuki: Nah don't think its that, as I actually did the survey and the thankyou10 is not applying for me either. Its either a bug, or they aren't allowing stacking with the BOGOF. I spoke to them and they said they would get back to me about it, but they haven't yet. I will probably buy them in case they go out of stock and go without the extra 20 buck saving.

        • @Hazza:
Thats what I figured. Better to miss out on $20 than $189.

        • @Hazza: I did the same, went to the store last night and bought. When I asked them (Dandenong South) about the survey they said they haven't even heard of such a thing. So I gave up and bought it for $185. Still worth it imo.

  • Yeah 10% off promo code does not appear to be working with this BOGOF offer (any more).

  • Does anyone know where you can buy the cordless drill skin only? Would be good to buy if you get 2 batteries with this deal.

    • Hmm, can't see anyone selling just the skin… unfortunately.

  • Don't bother. Not enough power and doesn't last long unless u have a small patch of grass

    • +1

Presume you're referring to the grass trimmer. Blower and Hedge trimmer should be fine in small bursts.

      • Most power consumed is getting it up to speed so its better to keep it on rather than on, off, on, off.

        • Which tool are you talking about?

        • +1

A year ago I got the Wesco 3 tool bundle for $75 (blower, hedge trimmer, line trimmer) which has lower effective battery voltage and capacity and the blower and hedge trimmer far exceed what I was expecting. For the price and light weight nature of the tools/batteries I am really surprised how usable they are. The line trimmer however struggles so I agree with you there. The B&D has much better batteries and higher effective voltage and capacity so I am sure the hedge trimmer and blower will be great. The positive for me is I already have the B&D matrix system which is excellent and the batteries from these tools are interchangeable, so I will have 4 batteries and 3 chargers for basically an unlimited supply of power if need be.

Bought the hedge trimmer and the line trimmer. Convenience of starting the tool right way without the need to deploy electrical cables is a great convenience for smaller jobs lasting about 30-40 minutes. Battery interchangeability was a great incentive to go ahead with the purchase. Build quality is above average (slightly below par the 18V 1.5 Ah chainsaw and pole lopper) I purchased about a year ago. Performance of both chainsaw and pole lopper is very good with clean, efficient cutting and battery (for the 1.5 Ah tools) lasting about 15-20 minutes with solid usage. There are minor glitches though with both of these two tools: chainsaw leaks oil hence, storing it in a plastic bag is recommended if you don't want oil over shelves or the garage floor. Chain in the pole lopper rusted after 5-6 uses and some lubrication for the chain is thus recommended. A 14.4V hedge trimmer, while on half price special in BIG W (I simply can't resist a good bargain), and after realising the convenience battery operated tools offer), works great with excellent trimming performance and acceptable battery endurance (about 20-25 minutes). No glitches or issues with this tool so far. In all, Black & Decker cordless garden tools offer good value for money.

  • Just a quick note. You get TWO sets of battery + charger. Nice, since it's only 2Ah.

    • I just got mine and yes to clarify, you receive one battery and one charger with each tool. So you end up with two batteries and two chargers. Incidentally mine came with different chanrgers. Fortunately the batteries are interchangable though.

  • Hello all,

I was interested in the blower / hedge trimmer combo deal so I went in to Masters to take a look at it. The blower is so small it literally looks like a kids toy…. It really doesn't look like it would be very powerful at all. Take a look before you buy this as you my be unpleasantly surprised when you open up your tiny micro blower :)

I am now looking for something a little more substantial… Hope this helps someone :)

    • +1

Don't be decieved by the size. Things don't have to be big to work well. After all lets face it, a blower is really just a hairdryer on steroids, so it doesn't need to be big. I pickup up the Blower and the Trimmer and used them over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised by both. The external build quality seems good. The batteries charged quickly too.

The Blower is small, but this makes it extremely light and easy to use. It easily pumps out enough air to blow away leaves and grass clippings off dry surfaces. Absolutely fine for your average garden maintenance. I did our whole house (back, front and nature strip) without any trouble. A job that would normally take me 45 minutes with a broom and rake literally took me 10 minutes. My only criticism, because I'm quite tall I found it a little short. I found myself bending down a bit to get to tricker bits. But no biggie. On the whole a great tool.

The Hedge Trimmer also performed excellently. I only gave it a quick go 15mins or so but again, light weight, a pleasure to use and seems quite robust. The blades don't move as quickly as a petrol powered unit but this didn't appear to affect performance. With it's 18mm cutting capacity it really had no problem going through stuff as thick as my fingers which I was impressed by. The blade could be a little longer, but not a deal breaker. Also, for safety reasons you have to hold down 3 triggers to make the thing work (front grip, main handle and thumb trigger). This was a little annoying at first but fine once you got used to it.

I can't tell you how amazingly convenient these cordless, light weight, switch on/off first go tools really are. I find myself resisting the temptation to go out and use them just because they're so easy! As long as they have enough grunt to do the jobs you need then they're excellent. I for one will not be going back to petrol for any of these "light weight" tools. Will stay with petrol for my mower and trimmer which require more grunt and staying power.

I think if you purchase them (especially at these prices) you won't be disappointed.

      • Oops I've realised the promo just ended. Anyway, hopefully this review may still be helpful for future promotions.

  • I have been to the store as well, the promotion ends on 28 Oct. I believe the thankyou10 won't work as I tried few times and nothing is happening on line.
The best one is the eWish card which gives you 5% off and you buy the units online from cashrewards to give you 2% off from $189.
Has anyone bought the units and can give some first hand user experience?

    Thanks.
