I can confirm I have received cashreward cashbacks with both Purchasing DJ gift cards from DJ's, as well as using those DJ gift cards to buy things. So yes, its a bit of a loophole where you can double dip. Not to mention I also double dipped Qantas points received via those transactions.
And yes, they aren't just "pending" credit, it is real money that I have already cashed out to my bank account.

I think as an Ozbargainer - I've come to learn that 95% of the time, the T&C's that state things like "cash back excludes gift cards purchases/excludes XXX brand products" are a load of rubbish

What I do now when I want to buy from DJ's to buy a certain product worth $500 dollars
        Log into cashrewards
        Log into Qantas online mall
Transaction 1: Buy $500 in Gift cards
Transaction 2: Use $500 gift card to then buy the product
You will be rewarded cashrewards + Qantas points for 2x$500 transactions.
Its not even double dipping anymore. Its quadruple dipping(2x cashrewards cashbacks, 2x quantas point awarded)

        • @nightfever:

One thing to point out is - I have noticed sometimes when trying to double dip cashrewards + qantas points - it doesnt register on one or the other. I'm no expert with how internet cookies work, perhaps someone can help out.Maybe it has something to do with the browsers/tabs I have open, or the actual links I click on, or the actual 'sequence' of logging in, I'm not sure.

But I can definately confirm most of the time if I am logged into both qantas mall + cashrewards - it registers fine so it is definately doable.

        • @Overtime2000: Thanks for the tips! :)

Maybe you could try use another browser dedicated to just those sites?

e.g. if you use chrome all the time, the use IE for purchases to get the cashback? Not sure though, me no expert neither. haha.

          @nightfever:

I normally don't buy a lot from DJ online, but I abused the hell out of it in May this year when there was the AMEX promotion with David Jones (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/192897). I had 4x amexes so I bought $800 in gift cards. I didn't spend all the gift cards online however(gave a couple to my wife) but ended up getting another $80 or so back fro Cashrewards. Not to mention heaps of Qantas points also

        • what's the turnaround time getting the gift cards? I've often thought about it, but am worried that I don't get the giftcards on time and then miss out on the bargain. Also not keen to lock up, in your case $500 in gift cards waiting for a deal.

        • @bluedufflecoat:

Well, its just the shipping time. Same as anything else you buy from DJ.
          Takes probably 3-4 business days

        • @Overtime2000: hahaha. So good!!

I gotta get myself an AMEX soon. Probably not till end of next month when I get my place settles.

        • @Overtime2000 I don't see Qantas mall in Cashrewards web site. Am I missing something?

        • @assarabbiya:

Yes it's unrelated to cash rewards.

        • Can i ask, i assume the gift cards you purchase are physical in the post vs e gift cards. correct?

secondly when you say log into cash rewards, do you use the same tab to then log into qantas mall?

  • I usually buy the egift vouchers from the Entertainment Book website… its 10% off so you only pay $90 to get $100 worth. The DJs website accepts gift vouchers!

    • How long does it take for them to send you the gift cards?

    • -5

$55 for the membership, is it really worth it?

      • I was suspicious in the past as I couldn't find exact saving information in the Entertainment Book website. But it has been improved a lot and you can now search the website for most of the discounted stores/services in your area or flip through a electronic version. So you can easily decide whether the membership worth it based on your lifestyle. They also keep updating information on newly participating stores or closed ones.

So I bought one this year and it paid back very shortly. You can also swap vouchers with others to help you save more.

  • Grrr i want 10% cash back on Apple :/

I have very bad experience using David Jones online, compared to other big retailers like Myer and Target.

    • Items which aren't actually in stock, show up to be in stock. It's only until the final step of checkout which it tells you that the item cannot be bought.
    • Orders get cancelled without notice.
    • Refunds due to order cancellations are performed manually. You either have to call them up and provide your payment details or they sent you a gift card of the refund amount.
    • +1

Yeap, totally agreed. Their online is few years behind others. Doesn't help that Customer Service number is constantly busy.

Pick up in store if you can.

Bought a TV recently from DJ and chose to have it delivered as estimated only 3 days.

Took 3 weeks and the whole process was a nightmare.

      • I also had a nightmare with DJ online. I tried to buy 3 gift cards with 3 separate credit cards (to utilise amex cashback). (Because their e-giftcard system is ancient and did not work). It took them 3 weeks ( and numerous phone calls) to understand that the transactions are not fraudulent.

  • I got pricepal cashback when using gift cards earlier in the year.

  • +1

Don't forget 10% off by buying teh gift cards through the entertainment book

  • -5

Is Cashrewards a scam or what? Still waiting for transactions from 29 Aug 2015 to be converted into "available" rewards.

    • it takes much longer than that. For David Jones it took about 3-4 months for me.

      • +3

the delay would be from DJ , not CR. There is no reason why CR would hold your money as soon as DJ approves and pays it into CR account

    • yeh its a scam, Sure buddy. That's why everyone uses them. You make total sense of what you write

    • 3 months seem to be the norm.

    • My Dell orders from 29/6/15 just got paid yesterday, so if you cant wait that's not their problem.

    • you are not the only one, my transaction records all stopped recording ever since 23 Aug 2015
before that date I get cashback on ALL my transactions!

email them and they don't even bother checking….

  • I bought $50 DJs gift cards at Woolworths supermarket & got $10 shopping credit thanks to Woolworths EDR promo from this deal:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/216294

Paid with WISH egiftcards at 5% discount from this Groupon deal:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/216294

Effectively 25% discount on DJs giftcards.

Did not try redeeming them via cashrewards for a further 10% cashback, but will now after comments above by Overtime2000!

    • $50 in DJ won't buy you much anyway…..

      • Multiple EDR accounts

EDIT: correct link to 5% off Wish egiftcards groupon deal (or buy instead via cashrewards, nrma, entertainment book, etc)

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/216810

      • I tend to combine deals

When you factor in amex cash back to buy gift cards + cash rewards % off + end of season sales, there are definately some real good deals for David Jones.
Can get things like Macbook Pros for 30-40% off RRP

  • +5

Never received any Cash Back from David Jones through Cash Reward.

  • TA is that you?

    • +2

No. TA is having dinner with CashRewards's Andrew to try increasing ebay cashback to 3.01%

  • If I buy ent book vouchers -10% (for DJ) then when I buy from DJ I will get another 10% off at CR? Is that how to double stack? Can this be done?

  • Great deal keep up the good work EC!

  • Seems to of expired unfortunately. Back to 7% now.
