    Live Steaming…

    this is gold….

  • Anyone else getting an error when trying to sign up?

    • doesn't like me information… :(

    • I can't signup either, and I have 3 mobiles, home broadband and telephone with Optus. It won't accept any of my details.

    • I had the same issue as well, however tried today and it worked :P

  • +2

Thanks mate! Just signed up to Optus, this will go great with the Nexus 6P.

  • +5

What's the cheapest Optus prepaid plan that could access this. Would it be possible to go and buy one of those $2 sim packs and register with that for the pass?

    • +1

According to the deal description, the unmetered access is post-paid only, I don't know if it prepaid is eligable on a metered basis or if they allow Wi-Fi streaming too.

  • I assume i will be able to access the advantage by registering a $2 prepaid sim card?

    • Here's some info from the pdf

      Prepaid Plans
All Prepaid Plans are eligible for data free streaming (excluding Coles Prepaid plans),
provided customers have a positive MyCredit, Credit or data balance.

      • But what happens when your data expires in 30 days (the highest recharge)? Can you continue using the service or would you need to recharge again to have a positive balance

        • From what I understand, the cricket pass would be valid, but you wouldn't be able to stream for free through Optus.

        • @hashtagbargain: You can only stream for free on POSTPAID, not prepaid. If you're on a $2 prepaid sim you must use WiFi or buy data.

        • @brezzo: As quoted by @hashtagbargain above: "All Prepaid Plans are eligible for data free streaming (excluding Coles Prepaid plans), provided customers have a positive MyCredit, Credit or data balance"

        • +1

@brezzo: This is wrong, see the pdf - it clearly says free data streaming if you have a positive balance on your prepaid.

        • @hashtagbargain: My bad, the OP's post says just postpaid, and I didn't read all of it (oops). Quality deal, then!

  • +3

Good luck Optus. Seams the deal wont last long as Channel 9 will be streaming ALL channels 24/7 for free on new app from 2016.

    • +1

I wonder if channel 9 has the rights for streaming sporting events though. I'd assume Cricket Australia would have the exclusive streaming rights for their own site/apps.

      • Time will tell.. Anti Siphoning rules exempt the ashes

        • +1

The anti-siphoning law only applies to TV. It's irrelevant to streaming and wouldn't block Cricket Australia from having exclusive streaming rights.

        • I don't see them blocking this but anyways.. Ch 7 have the same thing that just got released so this would allow streaming AFL

    • -1

I can't wait for a live stream of Home Shopping TV! (Not.)

    • I was thinking the same thing regarding channel 9 cricket content but the big bash is on channel 10 and haven't heard anything about 10 streaming their channels as yet.

    • And the data???

  • +1

I just tested the service in the morning as was able to watch CAXI vs New Zealanders Live in HD no problem at all.

This is actually available for free to anyone who signs up.

Good bargain anyway for those on Optus.

For folks on Telstra prepaid, you can use recharge credit to buy the live pass through the app.

    • "This is actually available for free to anyone who signs up" …. HOW?

      • the shield games and one offs like the CAXI vs NZ etc are usually streamed for free as long as you just have a basic account. You need a paid subscription though if you want to access the internatinal stuff and big bash league. This optus deal gets you a paid sub for free.

      • -2

        By signing up..

      • The CA XI match and the current Shield matches are being streamed free on cricket.com.au. Just go to the CA website, sign in, click on the score then click on the streaming icon in the top left.

As xccxxx mentioned, the international matches and BBL require a paid subscription, which is what this deal is for.

    • -1

Beat me to it, was just going to ask how?

  • Unfortunately there is no Cricket Australia windows phone app so may not be worth going to the trouble of taking this up.

    • i think you can stream on cricket.com.au, this is at the bottom the page

Streaming is available via Cricket Australia Live: The Official Application (for iOS and Android) and cricket.com.au but not Apple TV.

      • But unfortunately the stream wouldn't work on windows phone if there isn't the app.

        • sorry i meant using a computer/laptop and watch on cricket.com.au

If you are an eligible customer, you can enjoy a FREE Cricket Australia LIVE PASS so you can access the season's big Aussie games, plus the KFC T20 Big Bash League, streamed live to your smartphone, tablet or laptop

        • @aleg:

          No probs. :)

Even though I was already aware that it could be used on pc I would make much more use of it on my windows phone. Hence why I made the original comment and why its disappointing there is no app.

        • @barghunt1: Could you not just access the website on your phone's browser?

        • @ilikeradiohead:

No I don't think so. It would be the same as android or ios you would need an app to access something like this. For example with sbs on demand the website doesn't work on the phone. Instead I have to use the app.

  • Can't seem to get it, optus naked cable.

  • awesome

  • Do Optus Cable home broadband customers eligible for the plan?

  • +3

    Cheers OP :)

Just used two of the old Optus prepaid mobile broadband phone numbers from the Netflix deal back in April to score two codes :D

Am happy to give one away…feel free to send a pm.

    • Can I please have one? Thanks

  • Im a bit confused, they clearly say prepaid is fine. I signed up and registered without a problem. Then 30 seconds into my stream of CXI vs NZ I get the message saying "Oh hey wow cool bro, you only have 100mb data left!"

I'll fight optus for $2 if they charge me!

    • As far as I understand you can take up the subscription for free if you have a prepaid mobile but to get free data streaming you have to be on certain post paid mobile plans.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but that's how I read it.

      • "Prepaid Plans
All Prepaid Plans are eligible for data free streaming"

  • This is great deal, I am definitely going to buy a $2 starter pack and register for free live pass. Don't care for free streaming, just need a live pass account so i can watch games on my mobile using wifi

  • This is better than sleepstream app, for those who struggle to get to sleep!

  • home broadband users included
    I signed up with it

    • How do you do this?

      • +1

I clicked the link, and there was a home broadband tab

  • +1

Does anyone have a spare code for those who are eligible but aren't fans of cricket? ☺

  • +1

Got my pass, do we need to watch through an app to take advantage of optus's data free streaming, or can it be watched through browser?

    • through app.

  • Not recognising my details either… wonder if it is due to being a business plan and not having my DOB registered.

  • Would any kind person spare a code pretty please?

Would love to watch my beloved redbacks, oh hang on scrap that (6/5!)

  • I'm a huge cricket fan and my mobile number only just got ported to Optus today actually! Thank you very much OP, I'll be using this to the max!

  • I'm having trouble with the voucher. I validate my service with the sms code. Put in email address. Get email with promotion link. On the site the link sends my to I need to enter my "Optus voucher code". What or where is my Optus voucher code?

  • +1

There were some Optus $2 sims for 5c at Kmart Chirnside Park a few days ago which would make this an even better bargain

  • -8

    Boring "sport"

  • I'm on Virgin and i have a jailbroken iphone. Any way i can get this to work for me?

  • Would be eternally grateful if someone eligible for a code but not a fan of cricket could PM me a code :)

  • Nice! Gonna come in handy streaming the tests when at work!

  • Thanks OP, signed up, saved me $30 as I usually subscribe to this.

I would be interested to know if you could use your Optus phone as a hotspot and stream through the cricket app on another device, without chewing through data.

Will have to try this when the 1st Test starts.

  • +1

    Can't validate my details, spewing

    • Tried business mobile, business mobile broadband & personal mobile and it won't validate any of them! All are postpaid.

  • +2

When I get home tonight, I'll see if I still have that $15 mobile I bought for the netflix deal earlier this year. If so and it still can receive sms, I'll post the code here for anyone that wants it.

Also in the next few weeks, I may be porting over to an optus starter kit I have at home that I bought during the $5 deal. I'll post the code for that as well.

  • So just to clarify OP, Prepaid can get both the app and unlimited data streaming

    • Yep, as mentioned before by others above, All Prepaid Plans are eligible for data free streaming (excluding Coles Prepaid plans),
provided customers have a positive MyCredit, Credit or data balance.

  • I don't need it.
    http://www.cricket.com.au/optus/register?voucherCode=OPT001X…
BTW, I tried to register once last night and then registered again today without using the code so I actually have two different codes via SMS. I only registered the first one to get the code above, but haven't tried if the other code will also work and won't bother.

    • Thanks but already been used :( probably by an anon

  • Got a new Optus service and can't even access this promotion. Customer service weren't even aware of it when I rang them to help, eventually they confirmed I am eligible but they had no idea why it didnt work for me and couldn't even manually send a voucher code. Very annoying.

  • Has anyone purchased a new sim to take up this offer and can verify success? Keen on buying a $2 sim for this as my current optus sim does not seem to be eligible. Plan obtained through work.

  • watching live now. happy days :)

  • Just an update for those who had errors.

I was getting errors last week not recognising my service - however checking again today and all was apples!

  • Finally got the account active after optus spent me a code 3 days after I'd requested it. Currently watching aus vs nz at http://live.cricket.com.au/#/1557/39053/video

Weird thing is - it is impossible to make the video full screen! You gotta watch it through the tiny window with panels and ads all around it :/

    • When I click on "watch live" it automatically rotates and changes to full screen.

      • rotates and changes

Does that mean you're using a phone app? I was trying it out on the laptop.

        • Yep sorry, cricket Aust app.

  • Can't go full screen on PC unfortunately. But there is a workaround posted here
    http://whrl.pl/RerAGY

    • I did it for the Sheffield shield Redbacks game today!?

  • Hi all,

I'm not with Optus but this deal seems very good especially the data free part. What would be the best/cheapest way to get the service. Would something like the $30 long life expiry plan be suitable or is there something that can keep your balance in positive for less?

  • I ended up getting it through a mate.
Unfortunately the website/app is a buggy piece of crap but oh well.

  • Anyone want to send me a code please?

  • +1

Just signed up and got my code if anyone still needs one? Cricket is not my thing.

    • +1

Can I have the code please…if its not been used already

      • I don't seem to be able to message you

  • Cricket Australia Live Pass offer ends 29 February 2016. Data Free Streaming ends 31/3/17.

  • Does anyone know if data free streaming applies if Optus sim is put in a hotspot?

    • I'd like to know this as well, but I don't think it does if you use the 4G to watch it on the website, cos I've used up some data by doing that. Someone earlier said that data free streaming only applies when you use the app. I'm gonna try using bluestacks to watch it on the app today to see if it works.
