Huawei is always praised by their phone build quality but criticized on their skinned and modified Android UI by western users.

This phone keeps Huawei's strength on hardware build quality and has stock Android directly controlled by Google. It is expected to be the best Nexus phone to date.

      • -8

you are dreaming… Huawei has a horrible build quality
        ill leave this here

        • +1

          Build quality = Bend ability??

Will you also say the iPhone 6 plus has horrible build quality too?

        • -1

          @claud0902:
yeah it does, it also bends.
          however the 6s doesnt.

        • @claud0902: Apple actually covered it all up quite well and there was a finding done about 3 months after the Bendgate ordeal to find that later iPhone 6+ was about 3 grams heavier than the release model. Subsequent opening up have proved that they changed the rim / chassis to cover up the previous break in the button areas where it was weakest at. This did prove that the original design was flawed and they have henced fixed it. Horrible build quality maybe no. Bad Design, definitely.

        • +1

          @bchliu:

Yes. if the relavant news/video claim is true about the 6p, I agree with you the issue comes from the design flaw which has to be looked at and fixed.

Let's see how HUAWEI will act on this. They have the ambition to replace Samsung and become the world No.1 smartphone seller, we need to see if their action matches their ambition.

      • OZB lynch mob is out again. However, I do appreciate what dannyhc is saying. It wasnt too long ago that I got my son a Huawei Ascend Mate (6" original version) thinking it is cheap and a large phone for him to use. They came out with only ONE update of firmware ever and stuck on 4.1.2 never to go onto the next version. Not only did the Aussie version cost more than the China Import, but it also halved the specs (memory and Storage). I have used many China Androids and often give advice to people on buying particular models - and I can say that many other manufacturers support their models much more than Huawei ever did for theirs.

On the other side though, this particular model will mainly be shaped by Google as opposed to Huawei who basically are there contracted to make the hardware only. So the updates and standardisations will be done in a controlled way and will be frequent as much as any Nexus out there.

Buy this phone because it is a Google Nexus. Not because it is a Huawei - as they are only the contracted manufacturer as Google did with Samsung, LG and Motorola beforehand.

    • Here is more proof at what a joke this product is, -19 votes for telling the truth, To all the neggers, I wouldn't spray you with my diarrhea if you were on fire. http://www.lowyat.net/2015/82197/nexus-6p-back-glass-window-…

      • Maybe include an explanation and hold back on the abuse next time? Just a thought

  • I went looking for the T&Cs relating to the trade in and the following was taken from https://www.jbhifi.com.au/GENERAL/ADVERTISED-OFFERS/#MOBILET…

  • JUST BOUGHT THIS ON THURSDAY FOR $997. At least $50 off if I could have waited 2 days… Then again, I'm going on holiday today and I really wanted to take it with me.

    • +1

You can go back to JB and they should offer you a $50 refund. I bought it off the google play store for $999 and then got charged with a $24 international processing fee :(

      • Did you pay gst?

        • No GST from google

        • @aldoduco:
Yeah I know google don't pay gst. That poster would be over $1000 threshold.

        • +1

          @Ronnnie:

From whirlpool comments they valued the phone for $899. Dodgy.

        • @aldoduco:
          Ok thx

      • You can return it for full refund and buy from JB

        • Yeah I guess, but they dont have the graphite version :( but it does seem like a viable option. However, google's replacement/refund policy is pretty good.

      • Is the $947 a permanent price drop? 'Cause I can't go to the shops until Sunday.. I guess I'll give it a try then

  • +2

If you are with telstra search for the issues with telstra and 6p on whirlpool

    • +1

If you are with Telstra, probably best not to buy at this stage.

    • +1

Bugger, was eyeing off this phone to purchase outright then go telstra for coverage as the old z1 is at the end of two year contract and contacted phones never a good deal… Also, the z1 gas been a beast apart from the last two months where battery life has gone downhill quick. Perhaps I'll be patient and wait, or consider the z5, but it's no 6p!

  • -3

    Does it bend?
    .
    .
    .
    .
Just kidding. But seriously though, if you are the type that tend to abuse the phone rather than not, probably stay away from the 6P. It should be fine under normal usage, but ain't exactly the most sturdy of phones.

    • Does it blend, that is the question.

  • +4

There's no reason to get this over the original 6. Just saying.

But here, have a +….because Nexus.

    • +1

all comes down to whether the better camera, better battery life and better body (the 6 is just too massive for me, at least the 6P apparently feels nicer in the hand, despite not being much smaller) is worth $300+ to whoever is buying. Internals/screen are basically the same though.

      • the screen on this has much better colour accuracy apparently

  • What are people thoughts on this phone?
Best currently in the market? Or do people still prefer the Note 5?

    • +1

Both fairly comparable. Note 5 has HW edge, Nexus 6P arguably software.

      Depends on the price imo.

I got the 32GB Note 5 for $661 during the recent 24% off ebay sale, which makes it a no brainer.

  • -8

Does it bend that is the question

    • +2

Did u really have to reapeat urself that much to get noticed?😴

      • -3

        i like negs

  • wait, there's a mistake with this deal. It says, "Bonus $50 trade-in for your existing phone"

It's not $50 trade-in for your phone. Since, I have a Galaxy S5 and i'd be pretty ticked off if all they offered me was $50..

Does anyone know whether their trade in offers are actually worth considering? I want to upgrade but don't quite have the full amount to splash cash on.

    • +1

You might want to check out old posts or whirlpool regarding the trade-in offer:

the optus prepaid ZTE for 14.50 seemed to work previously

      • incredibly helpful. I have a Nokia Lumia lying around that i'll try trade in. Thank you kindly!

        • Enquired about trade-ins today in Perth for my Iphone 5 good condition, they used their computer system to value and came up with $134.

        • @yontk:
You'd get way more on eBay.

        • @PainToad:

This trade-in deal confuses the crap out of me.

Some people are reporting trading in brick phones and getting a minimum of $200.. yet @yontk got an offer of $134 for an iPhone 5..

The only way the trade in deal is actually worth it is if the 'minimum of $200' actually applies. otherwise, we'd be better off selling on eBay or scumTree.

  • +1

Just spoke to a saleperson from the store who said this price will be valid until 18/11.

    • Thanks. Will update accordingly.

  • C'mon now, my Nokia 3310 is worth more than $50…

  • +2

I'm pretty sure it's $744 outright at Optus

    • +2

      For 32gb model

    • $774 actually. $30 for the first month.

  • -1

    Just dont bend this.

It's one of the easiest 'expensive' phones to bend.

    • -1

Yeah, yeah, don't crash a Ferrari.

It's one of the easiest 'expensive' car to crash.

Just because it can be bent around the weakest point, will it bend in normal use?

How many non-YouTubers' iPhone 6+ are bent or hit by a sledgehammer during normal use?

      • Better to be precautious, no?

And no I don't know the statistics, do you?

But seeing how bendgate started (with someone bending their iphone in their pocket), this may be a legit reason to be cautious, especially since it's less rigid than the iphone.

        • Of course. However, I find what you said ("Just dont bend this. It's one of the easiest 'expensive' phones to bend.") perturbingly condescending. A vast majority of the owners won't deliberately bend their 6P, and if they paid for one, they would know it's an expensive smartphone.
Look. There are better way to warn others about 6P's weak spot**. Even heavily negged tuzil (see above) does it better; he linked a convincing YouTube video.

** - structural design flaw if and only if putting a phablet in a [big] back pocket and then sitting on it are to be considered a part of normal daily use

  • Just saying, very few "working phone" is to be expected to be sold for less than $50 on Gumtree or eBay or in a garage sale.

    • Low-end prepaid phones can be bought dirt cheap. Sometimes for less than 10 dollars brand new.

  • Please note that this phone has issues on Telstra (Boost) 4G network. I have added a warning in the original post.

  • I got this phone on the 2nd november and i'm absolutely loving this. Every phone i get every year i always have something to complain about , but not for this one. I can't stop looking at my Nexxi …

  • Just picked the 64gb silver version for $848 from JBHIFI Carindale without even really trying. Just said I was considering the 32gb version from optus for $744 and this is what they came back with. Still had at least 10 x Silver 64gb versions in stock.

    • Lol nice.
