It's an expensive phone but no doubt people still buy it because of the fact it's got the Nexus brand on it.

If you spin it as an LG G series competitor it wouldn't sell very well — smaller and non-removable battery, no SD storage and no optical image stabilisation. These three features (or the lack thereof) makes it a pretty bland and uninteresting device IMO.

This deal is getting worse all the time

      • I've been looking for a phone around the size of my g2 and the 5x is perfect for it. G4's screen size is big enough that I would not want to get it even when it has been cheap from past deals

The screen is bigger yet both phones are about the same size. I think people make a big deal about phone sizes, if the G4 is too big than the 5x is too.

Funny how that's turned around… people used to buy Nexus phones because they were cheap. :)

        • Only the Nexus 4 and 5 were relatively cheap.

Nexus One, Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus were all high-end, expensive devices.

Google has simply gone back to the Nexus being a premium/high-end device.

        • @twister292:

5X is still relatively cheap this time around. The Australian dollar is worth around 70 US cents instead of trading at around parity this time around.

      • I agree. I went to gsmarena and looked at this phone. So surprised at the price and not being flagship.2Gb Ram, no SD card slot. So crazy.

Harvey Norman comes with a bonus chromecast..
For this price, it is very difficult to justify for a mid-range phone.

    • new chromecast or older version

      • Not sure.

wow! didn't realize that this phone gonna cost us more than $600 in australia..

    Why would u get 5x for 720$ when for 744$ u can have 6p.
    Anyways enjoy ur new gadget

    • 6P > 5X hands down

Some people want a smaller phone, the 4.95" screen of the Nexus 5 was perfect and this is close. It's been really nice so far.

    • Where are you getting a 6P for $744?

  • some people prefer a smaller handset look at all the Z5 all small screens yet a thousand dollars nearly.

  • Bring on the xperia m5!

The G4 is around $800. This offers over the G4 better battery life, better performance, fingerprint scanner and fast updates with support for 3 years. G4 has better camera, easy to swap batteries, ir blaster and sd card slot. Personally I think if you're spending this much than the 6P is the best choice.

    • G4 is 559

      • Shouldn't compare grey import with local stock.

  • would this be some type of Telstra vesion. Wasnt there problems with Telstra being very slow with updates for previous Nexus phones?

    • It's it outright and not locked in to Telstra sims, I'm currently using an optus sim in mine.

      • +1

I didn't mean locked, but an earlier version of nexus people were complaining about delayed updates.

  • I bought a Nexus 5 direct from Google then put in a Telstra SIM. I've tried waiting for updates but they never come so I simply flash my device with the new image each time one comes out https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images?hl=en It's a pain but everything on my phone is synced to the cloud & you can restore apps during the setup process so it's not that hard, just takes some time. Even if you buy your Nexus from Telstra & it comes with a modified ROM then you can always flash your device using the Factory Images supplied by Google.

  • were really tempted to get one of the price wasn't inflated by much when it lands aus, got myself a nexus 6 instead with a bargain price, 2gb ram simply weren't good enough for nowadays.
