I've been staring at the image hoping it would finish loading and sharpen itself up.. then realised I was on NBN and it probably wasn't going to get any clearer.

        its very blurry

Just went outside to my mailbox and found a letter saying the rest of the image download is in progress over the nbn and expected to complete around 2020 ;-)

Apparently next election it's the turn of the Greens to win and change plans. The nbn will then be made out of hemp and banana leaves ;-)

      • +1

And when you overload it, it gets hot and starts to smoke then we'll never get any work done

      • The Greens are planning to make the NBN out of sand and recycled plastic…

        • +3

So that is glass(melted sand) with plastic terminators? Works for me!

Better than the current steam punk plans.

      • Need to paint that el-cheapo metal powder coated mailbox too. Think the Wattyl exterior sample would stick well enough?

  • Thank for that! I missed out on the last ones. Forgot one day, out of stock the next…

It's great to get some free sample pots, but I would add from experience that painting is so time consuming and such a pain in the arse that it's not worth skimping on the paint in any way. For example, I'll bet that with all of these samples they'll be for the most matte of matte finishes, no good for doors or trims where you might think you could use a litre or less. I got a free valspar sample last time they had them and painted the back of one of the kids doors, the young bloke wanted it green so I agreed to paint one side. The amount of time the proper prep and then painting took I wish in hindsight that I had have used some sort of semi-gloss or gloss or a better quality paint. The free samples were matte, lowest of low sheen and that's all they would give out. Saving grace is he'll get sick of it and I'll be painting it again anyway.

Just my opinion. I could be wrong they might give out different sheens / quality levels. Good luck if they do.

    • +2

You should be able to get them in all different finishes, I'll confirm tomorrow.
I can confirm now that Sherwin-Williams, Valspar and Wattyl are all great quality brands.

    • I wish I didn't skimp out on ceiling paint and use crappy Masters paint. One moth hits it and you go to wipe it with clean water and it leaves like a patch. Not worth it. Should have used bloody wash and wear or a decent paint.

  • My Vic catalogue ends 11 Nov and has the Valspar 500ml sample pots for $2 (save $12). Confirmed price online at Oakleigh South store. Haven't got new catalogue yet to see the free prices.

    • +1

Might depend on the range, Valspar has 3 different ranges.

  • My local Masters opens at 6:30am…. Do you think they'll be ready for free samples as soon as they open?

I'm worried I'll miss out if I don't get there until after work at 6pm :(

  • +2

    Thanks. Good for sniffing!

  • Last time when they had this 1 litre but it was out of stock.
    Better go early

  • +2

Last time the Sherwin=Williams 1L sample was offered, a lovely lady of a 1000 member craft group, emailed the group and the Toowoomba store went out of that paint that day. I believe all colours of the rainbow and more were mixed. Sadly I missed out on that one but even sadder - the following week there was the offer of two for one of Sherwin-Williams. Now I have to paint the inside and outside of our' and Grandma's houses. We only have to choose the colour and have the store mix the colours for the outside.

And with the Hot and Stormy days [sic almost the worst lines ever]
I have been given a short reprieve.

Thanks op and store rep for the heads up we can get sample of preferred colour to try for 15l x 2 tins.

  • [Calculates how many L it would take to paint house vs how many masters in reasonable distance of current location]

  • Silly Question: We can take a bit of the original wall paint into the store so they can match it?

    • +1

bunnings requires 20c piece size to do this, assume similar at masters.

    • If I am not mistaken, Sherwin-Williams paint at Masters is only licenced for the Sherwin-Williams own colour range wick is very extensive. for whats it worth - http://www.sherwin-williams.com.au/colour-visualiser;jsessio…
[color if you like yankie spell check as in majour, and so on]

    • I also had the 20c piece size required at masters…but then I went to bunnings with < a 5c piece and they managed to do it.
It's probably a shade too dark, but better than the glaring hole it was before
(3m hook being taken off gone wrong - apparently using a hair dryer to warm up glue reduces risk)

  • +3

Seems to be a bit of confusion mentioned above in the comments.

    The Sherwin-Williams samples are 1L.

The Valspar and Wattyl samples are 0.5L.

Sample pots are only offered in a Low Sheen finish (Typical for interior walls etc. Not for trims, doors etc.)

The paint you get in these samples is of a much poorer quality than the actual product you would get off the shelf, sample pots are really only intended to see how a colour looks on the wall.

    • 'The paint you get in these samples is of a much poorer quality than the actual product you would get off the shelf, sample pots are really only intended to see how a colour looks on the wall."

That is sad, If that the case and I like the paint and colour then I should be pleased when I use the correct paint purchased and have a better finished or maybe be not as the finish and perhaps the dried colour will appear slightly different due to paint quality and the effect the room/ home designer may be just out of hero finish with drapes, furniture, rugs …..!

So you are saying YOU HAVE THAT MUCH FAITH IN YOUR PRODUCT you THE SUPPLIER CAN GIVE AWAY A LOWER QUALITY PAINT AND YOUR POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS WILL RETURN to buy what is to be a better paint.

Or is it something else, maybe like , but I don't know OR I am not saying this is true - we have a batch of initial higher quality paint [paint purchased out of warehouse] and when sufficient quantity sold we will contract for special bulk order supplied at more favorable cost but sell at original price. There may be twerking of product production.

Or not. Sales are Sales. Personally I would revisit my comment.

  • I thought it said free sample pot for a minute..

  • Time to paint my wagon again…

  • How to dispose the used paint pot?

  • +2

Sample pots are cheap/rubbish paint (operate a paint company trade centre, and also manufacturer of paint)
sole purpose to show colour on an interior wall.

Do not use for anything other than craft/choosing a colour.

If you put it on doors etc.. you are an idiot. Use the correct product.

You get what you pay for.. eg the $10/4L is junk PVA (ala PVA glue) based paint.. dissolves in water :)

    @gstfree To dispose of paint
pour any remaining paint on paper/cardboard, and allow to dry. let the can dry out.. dispose with household rubbish collection.

    • Agreed. I spoke with the paint shop and they said this also (for all brands). Not many people know this as they think samples are just the normal paint in a smaller can. It is not the normal paint.

It's just to show the colour/sheen and is not the same chemical make up as the normal paint hence why paint shops can give it away free. If will come off whatever you paint pretty easily in time.

This understanding will probably save a lot of people bothering and in turn being disappointed if they miss out.

With crafting, unless you lived next door, with the money for petrol/time you spend getting this you'd be probably better off just getting a small paint pot from cheap craft section at $2 shop, Reject Shop, etc unless you really wanted a specific shade.

  • Hi, Tightarse, thanks for sharing the news and details provided. I miss the previous one; they told me out of stck. Must go a bit earlier this time to avoid disappointment.

  • How do i get this? Do i rock up to the store and ask for it? Do I have to buy anything?

    • You have to go the paint section and ask. Then pick a colour then wait while they mix up the paint (Well for the varieties I asked about, Wattyl and Sherman Williams). No purchase required.

  • I was just going to post this myself…. and I had the image ready and stuff too. LOL.

  • Master Chullora out of stock. The girl in Paint section mentioned that the Free sample pots promo start yesterday not 12/11. WHAT??? Only dark colour Wattyl sample left e.g. Black Grey. Anyway, anyone wish to go this one can save a trip.

    • Got same response yesterday's morning and same response in previous promotion of the 1L USA sample paint brand (went there on Saturday).
Not sure if they don't have stock or they just don't like spending time making free sample paint.

  • Hi All,
here is a link that shows all the different options available
    https://www.masters.com.au/pickedlist/samplepots

  • When does this promotion end?

  • Just got a free sample pot paint from Northland Masters. I and my partner was originally planning to get one each, 1 for myself and 1 for my partner, but the girl from the paint said two of us can only get one. It's a bit strange and I though it's one per customer. Anyyway we end up got 1 pot dark grey for the feature wall of our house. This was certainly not a good experience. Also suprised that she only handshaked the paint to mix the colour. I thought they would have a machine to do the job.

  • Oh, I went to their South Oakleigh branch, Victoria . I told the lady that in additional to the one free sample pot I was willing to pay for another one. The lady said that would cost me $16.00 which I agreed. On the counter I greeted and joked with the cashier that my wife preferred to stay in kitchen , and she should have come with me . Well, he let me have two pots free! Nice fellow.
