Apple Music 3 Months Free, Now Available to Android Users (Save up to $54)

580

Not an apple fanboy, no worries. Apple doesn't discriminate, nor do we here on ozbargain. They have even paid their software engineers to develop an android app & then decided to offer android fanboys 3 months free.

Did they hope we would make the switch to apple ? I guess not. Why? Because we love our cheapo android phones with arsecodes

Didn't you watch the news tonight?

    • +1

      no, what happened

        • +19
        • @ozhunter: Yep, the second I saw the video the only reason I saw "black school kids with backpacks in a group" as opposed to "school kids with backpacks in a group" was because of the 'alleged' racism origin of the story.

        • +1

          @ozhunter:

Where did you find this picture? I'm a little suspicious of it…

        • +1

@ozhunter: Apple wouldn't be issuing an apology, if that was true. If they stole something why haven't they got the police involved? Should be video evidence.

        • @McFly: Obviously you're not black, I reckon they got it the hardest in terms of racism.

        • +3

@gamechanger: That's not true - even if it was totally justified, any company would be issuing an apology. It's all about public perception and it goes both ways.

        • +1

@gamechanger: No, I'm not black (although I am from a minority, so I have some idea about such things.)
Still, as I said, it immediately looked like this was about a group of kids with backpacks who weren't allowed into a shop. The same thing happened to me while at school (30 years ago) and I'm sure I wasn't the first. Not once did my 'minority-ness' come into my (or anyone else's) head as the reason for being barred.
I am under no illusion that racism exists, but another obvious clue that this wasn't the case here is the matter-of-fact way the person told them they weren't allowed in, even in front of a camera.

        • @McFly: Depends which minority you come from, black people are heavily stereotyped.

You're wrong in this case, have a look at the video again. If it was an innocent request, he would have asked for them to leave their backpacks outside. Instead he told them security are worried, they might steal something. I can bet you, no group of white kids would have been given the 'stealing' reasoning.

        • @ozhunter: it's a nobody on whirlpool posting a picture of nobodies discussing it on Facebook. I frankly don't see how anyone can trust it :/

        • @ozhunter: Whirlpool link doesn't work?

Even if that's the security guard its a load of bs to cover up for his racism. The guy didn't even have the balls to tell them himself.

Apple USA have officially apologised after investigating, you think if that guys story was true they would? The store is full of video evidence.

        • @Autonomic: The political correct haters have conjured up a story, problem is that sometimes the story is actually an incident where someone has been discriminated because of their race.

        • @gamechanger: That is even worse PR. Apple wouldn't want to sue school kids for stealing

        • @snowcold: Why would Apple sue them? The law would deal with them, as there is video evidence.

Apple are so big now that this incident would have 0 impact on their brand.

        • @Autonomic: Feel free to ask "Solo" and the "security guard about it"… https://www.facebook.com/SOLO.NAIM https://www.facebook.com/oktay.oztekin

        • +1

          @GameChanger:

          You're wrong in this case

But you've got it all worked out based on 20 seconds of video? All we know is there was more to this that happened both before and after this 20 seconds.

If it was an innocent request, he would have asked for them to leave their backpacks outside. Instead he told them
security are worried, they might steal something.

That just backs up the FB posts from ozhunter.

I can bet you, no group of white kids would have been given the 'stealing' reasoning.

If I was a betting man I'd take that bet in a heartbeat.

        • @McFly: I'll stick to what actual articles say

    • +2

      Well played.

  • +9

No Windows Phone app sounds like discrimination against a minority group to me :)

    • +45

      Works on smartphones only

    • -4

      Wow..someone actually negged you…

      edit: ahahahah

After the iMac deal, just found it curious that one jab about Windows Phones gets a neg..while another gets overwhelmingly positive votes and no negatives. All hail Duarte…ugh.

      • It's all about execution

  • Would this be a good way to pay for Apple Music on an iphone using Telstra credit? Do they use an iTunes account that is interchangeable on ios/android?

    • Looks linked to iTunes account, prob bypasses Google in-app billing.

  • +1

After you log into your Apple ID, if you've used the free 3 month trial on ios before (which I have), it says you do not get another free trial and you have to pay :/
(guess it's time for another apple id)

    • +1

      Not how it works.

        • …. ok then. You can download as much as you want. It's a monthly subscription. Just make sure your ISP offers enough data if you are going to use 4g etc to download(especially on a mobile device)

    • You can stream as much music as you want.

  • Just out of curiosity, does this mean that iTunes will now sync with an Android device?

    • +1

If you install Google Music Manager, synching from iTunes to Google Play to Android is simple

  • Does this work with telstra promo?

    • Yes, it works with the 12 Month free subscription. This app is pretty stable but does die occasionally on my telstra firmware 5.0 S5.

By the way re tippytoe's comment above, apparently you can download music. I haven't tried yet. Don't know the limit or the restrictions on playing downloaded music.

  • +10

    Google Play is far superior.

I can even play music thru my web browser at work

  • Sony Xperia Z4 tablet is not compatible with Apple Music apparently. Not sure if all Android Tablets are incompatible. The Z4 tablet seems to be incompatible with a lot of things so hard to tell.

    • My Xperia Z1 phone is not compatible either.

      • Nor my Note 3. I'm guessing because it's rooted?

        • I'd say so. It works on my note 3 that's not rooted. Could be the firmware you're using if you're using a custom firmware.

      • Works fine on my z1 compact unrooted

    • +1

Nothing to do with Sony having large interests in competing music distributors I assure you, what would make you think that?

  • Any idea when this promo expires?

    • Never. You get 3 months free per apple id

  • +2

Why would a Spotify user bother?

    • -2

Because Spotify won't be around for much longer. No Adele, no Taylor Swift and no Coldplay's new album in December.

      • LOL, Spotify will be fine. Worst comes to worst they drop their free tier and they can go back to having the same catalogue as everyone else.

      • +1

        It has Adele's new single.

        • Apparently its not getting the album.

      • Spotify won't be around for much longer? Lol that's cute. Want to bet on that?

      • Yeah…No.

spotify > google music > Apple music

though I think googles new offering with music video could make it the best…will wait and see.

  • -1

If you're a Telstra customer on a plan, you're eligible for a 12/24 mth free sub depending what plan you're on

  • Reviews on Google play doesn't seem too promising. Can't download music to sd card for one. No chromecast support either. I use tidal anyhow and I've already used my 3 months trial it seems for Apple music.

    • Can you pay for Tidal with Telstra credit?

      • +1

Nope, only google play offers that at the moment I think. Tidal isn't a service for most people and more expensive than the alternatives.

        • Hopefully they'll offer that as a payment form in the future, then I'll check it out.

    • Wow I finally come across someone who pays for Tidal lel.

  • I use Rdio.

    • You ever compared it with Spotify, Play Music or Apple Music?

I want to try Rdio but not sure if it's worth it. I know it's damn cheap with the VPN workaround though.

  • Does anyone have an opinion with Apple Music V Spotify?

  • My credit card was charged $1, it would be nice if they clearly stated they would do this.

    • is that the card you have on your iTunes account? I removed mine, which you can do I think if you have some credit on there.
