  • How can it be so cheap. what are the strings?

Last point of the fine print:

All our plans are partially advertising subsidized

So you will receive an amount of SMS spam.

    • Hi Lenneth, its our launch offer to get interest and awareness about us. The offer expires this Sunday.

  • if i put this sim in a laptop, how much internet could i get?

  • Jpower you'd be better off with our Apollo 10 - $10 a month gives u $120 calls, 1000mins free time + 200mb data

    • ah, thanks for the heads up.

5.5. CAN I OPT OUT OF MARKETING MESSAGES?
You can always and at any time opt out of being a recipient of Live Connected marketing messages. To do so, contact Live Connected via email at [email protected]
Please however note that as your service may be advertising-subsidized, opting out of marketing messages may result in an increase in your monthly access fee and changes to your terms and conditions including the possibility of a plan exit fee being imposed. Please contact our staff at [email protected] to find out what the exit cost to you might be in such event..

So for this plan, can we expect an increase in monthly access fee if we opt out of marketing messages?

    • That's not very clear and upfront!

Penalty fees need to be clear and they need to be up-front!

    • Yes. unfortunately its variable as it depends on the extent to which advertising is subsidizing your plan, which varies person to person as no 2 people will use the exact same amount. On average its around $10

    lol at the rate:

EIGHTY CENTS PER MINUTE AND THIRTY FIVE CENTS FLAG-FALL

    That is ridiculous.

    • -2

Not quite right. So for $100 if you assume on average a 2 min call it works out at 100 minutes for $5 or put another way 5c/min.

So just looking at the call rate in the cap (which incidentally is the same or cheaper than Optus prepaid) isn't right.

      Hope this helps

      • Well, I am correct as that what it shows on your website.

        • TPGs rate is the same. 40c/30s

question is.. is this billed per min or per 30s or even per sec? it makes a huge difference

    • -1

mate, that is the standard optus call rate, not ridiculous at all, Edited by Mod, just the facts, no need for name calling

Just found out more about the ads in their FAQ

How Many Ads Will I Get

You'll receive around 2-6 ads a day via SMS. It only takes a moment to ignore or hit delete, but it helps drop the price a lot.

    • The ads are a dealbreaker for me. I'd rather pay $60 a year for prepaid mobile direct from optus.

  • Live Connected Pty Limited, the company named in the terms and conditions, is not a member of the TIO. It is a legal requirement for a telecommunications provider to be a member of the TIO.

Live Telecoms Pty Ltd (http://www.tio.com.au/aboutmembership/Members_search_details…) is a member of the TIO, but they appear to be a different and unrelated company who run http://www.selecttelecoms.com.au/

Further, I can't see a street address provided anywhere — there may be one — I just can't see it. That immediately makes me wary of any company.

  • Calls to 13, 1300 & 1800 numbers are NOT INCLUDED IN THE CAP and are charged at the standard call rate outside of the cap. Ad policy needs to be CLEARER. If we opt out of Advertising there needs to be a SET PRICE INCREASE to the cap - NOT "Oh email us and we'll fluff around and work something out". I currently have an iPhone on TPG $40 cap. This deal is tempting because of the included Data, but no 13,1300,1800 numbers in the cap, and advertising? I'm not sure…

    • Agreed.

The deal is very tempting… but we need to know what we're in for. For example on this $5 plan, if opting out of marketing messages causes the price to increase by 100%, ie: $10/mth I'd probably bite, knowing that if the ads get too annoying I know how much extra I need to pay to not receive them.

  • online customer support
    Direct debit only
    $20 upfront cost

think twice prior to your decision

    • Not necessarily a deal breaker… I'm with a VOIP company that works the exact same way and I've had no troubles with them (in fact I prefer it this way).

There is a surcharge for using a credit card direct debit as well (1.6% for VISA and Mastercard).

    • $10 plan change fee!

  • Can I opt out of receiving ads
    Yes.
Please note our plans are subsidized by advertising, meaning advertisers pay for close to 50% of your monthly fee
Removing ads could raise your monthly cost substantially*

So we -CAN- opt out and this -COULD- raise the monthly cost? By how much, if anything, and how do you opt out?

  • +1

This is just advertising. I dont see any "deal" here.

  • if couldnt make calls once credit out and would have to buy cap topup would be ok but getting charged to card once used wont work for me personally voids point of being pre-paid!

  • +1

too many catches - no deal here.

    • +1

      Agreed
      -ve votes

  • Well… seems liike ppl need to disable the sound alarm for sms notification forever then.

  • Curious, how many of you would have given us a go, except the advertising was a deal breaker?

    • i don't care about the advertising cos deleting is a simple 2 click process.

what i'd like to know is if international sms and mms are included in the cap.. third time asking :)

      • Thanks for the feedback. Apologies on the delay, International SMS & MMS is included. However pls note International Calls is not.

    • Curious. How hard is it to answer the mere handful of questions some members have asked? Or are you worried about making those answers public?

      • I think all of that information should be available in a Standard Form of Agreement anyway.

        • Who do you use for your mobile, and what is the deal that you're on?

          • @liveconnected: You need to know this why?

            • @YesPleaseThankYou: You seem to be on such a good deal, it might help us benchmark how we compare. Perfectly understand if its a staff plan and you don't want to reveal.

              • @liveconnected: It ain't a staff plan and I don't work in the telco industry if that's what you're suggesting.

This thread is about your plans, not the plan I am on.

    • When I first saw the deal, it looked brilliant, but deals that good always have a catch. I think a lot of people were put off by the fact that the advertising was not revealed upfront in your post and that lack of transparency left a negative impression. We can be a suspicious bunch here ;)

For what it's worth, I'm giving you guys a go

    • Sri Lankan actually :) And Yes the $5 plan is no longer available ( please refer to expiry date above 2010-02-07)

  • Should we bring back this offer?

    • Yes please, I was about to sign up for the $6 endeavour sim and 2 other sims but if u bring this back I will wait for it :)
