  • What does this mean "All our plans are partially advertising subsidized"??? Does it mean if I sign up I get SMS SPAM?

  • Couple of questions:

    1. What does "All our plans are partially advertising subsidized" mean?
    2. Is it billing by the minute, minimum 1 minute calls?
    3. 44c per MB excess charge seems to be getting up there… (sorry this is not a question)
    4. Pardon my ignorance and out of interest, why not include 1300 and 1800 numbers as well? I know this is usually excluded from many plans but I have always wondered. I guess it's on a different rate for you?

    thanks.

      1. very excessive! edit: actually it's not that bad, considering TPG is 5c/10kb ($5/mb)
      2. agreed.

      3. international sms/mms included in cap? (voice isn't)

  • I'm not convinced these are bargains — just self-promotion.

  • Paying monthly and need to keep bombard in SMS spams with possibly the chance that they will send an SMS to wake me up at 2am late at night?

    No thanks I will pass

    • +1

Well their policy says 9am - 9pm only for SMS spam

      • Well… seems liike ppl need to disable the sound alarm for sms notification forever then.

  • +4

How can you post this without mentioning the fact that you send advertising/spam?

    • Yes, ACMA takes spam seriously and it must be opt-in. You can't have opt-in as the default.

Not only that, they are not a Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman member — I checked the site.

It is a legal requirement to be a member. I can't believe that Optus signs up resellers without 1st checking that they have become a TIO member.

  • looks like a nice plan without any cancellation fee. Good for the traveler

  • +2

$20 (to cover shipping & SIM starter pack) —> RIP OFF!!!

    • How much does a SIM card cost? Next to nothing.

      • TPG charges the same cost PLUS another $20 just incase you go over your cap.

        • Yes… this is should be a match kill rather than just matching… ;)

          Please consider lower it, liveconnected.

        • Yes… this is should be a match kill rather than just matching… ;)

          Please consider lower it, liveconnected.

  • where can you buy recharges?

    • It's direct debit… and surcharge for visa/mastercard.

      • Direct debit to bank account = open cheque = receipe for disaster

  • Can I opt out of receiving ads
    Yes.

    • Please note our plans are subsidized by advertising, meaning advertisers pay >for close to 50% of your monthly fee
    • Removing ads could raise your monthly cost substantially

How much does it increase by opting out?

  • what if you use up all your credit do you get debited anything you go over from your card?

  • +1

I dont see any "deal" here. Its advertising…

  • if couldnt make calls once credit out and would have to buy cap topup would be ok but getting charged to card once used wont work for me personally voids point of being pre-paid!

  • +1

    Similar deal as http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/22008
i think it should be rolled into the one deal rather spamming Ozb.

  • Really isn't a bad deal even if it is ad supported. Good for Mum & Dad who hardly use their phone and don't check SMSs anyway.

There's a substantial amount of data included, no contract and a LOT of Optus freetime minutes.

A lot of value oriented providers charge $20 for a SIM. It's pretty reasonable if the service has good uptime.

Will they close up shop and disappear in 4 months? Who knows. Some more info from the rep would put our minds to ease.

  • Apologies on the late reply, as we're new we're only allowed 5 comments in one 24hr block so will try to answer as many questions as possible.

    1) Cost if Opt Out - unfortunately its variable as it depends on the extent to which advertising is subsidizing your plan, which varies person to person as no 2 people will use the exact same amount. On average its around $10
    2) Membership in TIO - we are definitely members of the TIO, it is illegal to operate a telco without being one. Our membership was granted on 19th Jan this year, the TIO site may take a while to update
    3) You do not need to buy recharges, its essentially a postpaid plan, albeit no contract and no cancellation fee
    4) 13,1300,1800 numbers were not included, as we negotiated to get data included instead. More of our customer base prefer the 200mb of data ($10 of value) over the inclusion of 13 numbers
    5) We listed the 2 deals separately as the Apollo 5 has a coupon code that expires tonight

    • thanks for the replies..

      what about international sms/mms?

  • Moderator, what drugs are you on?

It's not racist to say that someone is Sri-Lankan, just like it's not racist to say that you are Australian.

    Mod: Removed racist/off-topic comment

Furthermore, the 1300 number for Live Connected is PUBLIC INFORMATION:

    http://www.tio.com.au/aboutmembership/searchmembers.htm

    Search for "Live Connected".

Please go outside and breath some fresh air before you start censoring people on a whim.

    • Why is it necessary to point out that the person who runs this company has a popular Indian name? or that people from X country are not friendly people? If there is some relevance to the deal, then I'm happy to put your comment back up.

As for the number, the OP requested that it be taken down as its not their form of support. Use their provided ways of contact to ask questions. If there is an issue and people can not get through to them, then put it up, but at this point the OP is answering questions.

  • Hi - just letting you good folk know, we have released a version of this plan that is NOT advertising subsidized. It is for a limited time.

All the rate details are exactly the same, the only difference is instead of being $10 per month, the non-advertising subsidized product is $12.99

    thanks
