    • Won't work with restore the phone, need to call them, after they unlocked it, insert a Non-Telstra sim, connecting to iTunes, will then be unlocked.

I tried till late night yesterday with iTunes, and it did not work. Calle 1258880, and they said they cannot unlock it but forwarded me to another no, which said they have already unlocked it yesterday. Asked me to restart the device with new sim, and it works!

this phone will be locked to Telstra and an unlock fee would apply. I work at Telstra and am a REP here.

  • I just called 1258880 and they asked me to pay $80 to unlock it :(

I would try again, there have been a few people doing it successfully here.

I bought 2 phones from JBHIFI this morning..sales dude mentioned that the phone is definitely locked to Telstra
i tried using my optus sim ..didn't work.. tried the itunes didn't work so next step i called telstra @ 132200 followed the prompts and mentioned the guy that i need to unlock iphone5s.

    Telstra Guy : Imei
    Me : ———————— (15 digit)

Telstra Guy : Do you have any active service with Telstra ( I think this is to verify customer details name , last name , date of birth etc)
Me : Provided the prepaid number which i activated in the JBHIFI this morning

Telstra Guy : Put me on hold for a minute and said that he has requested unlock in the itunes server and mention
that it could take upto 72 hours to be processed
Me : Thanks . By the way i have another 5s to unlock and provided him the IMEI

Telstra Guy : Confirmed that the second phone unlock request is completed.
he further advised to connect phone to itunes after some time and sync it.
Me :thanks and participated in the telstra survey and obviously gave good rating :)

After the conversation i connected the phone immediately to itunes , A message poped " Congratulations your I phone is unlocked"

I did for the second phone and got the same message :)

At last ..I tried Optus sim and Lyca mobile Sim both worked.

summary : definitely locked to Telstra …Call them @ 132200 ….just say that you need to unlock and nothing more ..provide IMEI and telstra mobile account to
verify your details..outcome : Unlock free of charge

Hope this helps..good luck to you guys

  • How can this work?

New iPhone 5S at Apple is $749, so surely Telstra would not be selling them unlocked at $500?

    Looking for the catch….

Telstra pre-installs an app that monitors your bathroom habits and uses that to personalise your Foxtel guide.

If you don't have Foxtel it shouldn't bother you.

  • I bought 2x of these from different JB stores. BOTH WERE LOCKED!

However, if you're nice to the people a Telstra Live Chat 24/7 (https://livechat.telstra.com/TCOM:Crowdsupport:Consumer), they will unlock it for you for free. They'll ask you for your details and the handsets IMEI 15 digit number (found in settings > General > About) and then they'll submit an unlock request.

All you need to do then is back up your phone and restore it via iTunes. You should then get a message at the end of the restore saying 'Congratulations, your iPhone is now unlocked'. Worked for me both times. I hope that helps

  • I got mine from JB Hifi today for $299. Matched the price from David Jones website. JB unlocked it for me.

    • Can you send me/post the receipt?

    • Would you mind sharing which JB store did the price match?

      Cheers

    • will be interested if you can share the receipt and which store..

  • This may help those of you with Telstra,

    https://unlock.telstra.com.au/iphoneunlock/main?execution=e1…

    • As above I had to call them on 132200. Once unlocked I followed advice above,

If phone says SOS only, then plug phone to ITUNES on a computer and connect computer to the internet wait for ITUNES to detect the phone, it will then ask for Apple ID. At this ponit I signed in and all was fine.

  • The SIM card that comes with it … Can I sell it separately? It has the IMEI on the back of the SIM starter kit :(
