  • That's a really good price

    • +2

yeah decent but the 640 has changed what i expect for the money

      • +2

        Yeah I got the 640 for $89.

Different platforms though. Some ppl want an Android experience more than Windows and for them this is a great price for a very decent device.

        • How did you get the 640 for $89?

        • +2

May I ask how you ccould get it for $89?

        • @maogua: @ Kmart I guess, it was a QLD only deal. Is this still on krouton24 ?

        • @regenade:

They took the $89 sign down before I had left so, No.

I think someone put the wrong sticker in the wrong place. Is $129 pretty much everywhere though. Still a great price for a very good device.

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/220074 - half way down.

      • +1

Totally agree, 640 is a sensational value for money.

  • I'm getting a redemption error when trying to apply the coupon code.

  • Does it have 4g

  • +2

    This is tempting!
Undecided to wait for a deal on moto x style or just go with this one? Any thought?

    • +1

depends what you want, this one is missing NFC and all the other extra features but its great for the money. Water resistant IP67, 5" display, 2 GB Ram looks great for someone who wants a decent phone without the pricetag

  • I suppose this is 4G at one sim and 2G at the other? 2G dying next year.

  • +1

just bought one, happy shopping everyone

  • +1

is this the 2gb ram 16gb storage model?

    • Yes…

      • +3

        I love Chicken Adobo!

    • +1

yes it 2GB ram comes with the 16 GB model or higher if there's one. 1 GB comes with the 8GB only

      RAM: 2GB
      Bluetooth: Bluetooth version 4.0 LE
      Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon
      Display: 12.7cm(5), 720p HD (1280 x 720), 294 ppi, Corning G…
      Wi-Fi: 802.11 b/g/n (2.4 GHz)
      Operating System: Android Lollipop 5.1.1

      • Thanks.

        Ordered!

        $8.00 postage to 6000

  • Very nice phone, just one catch which you should consider if it effects you. This phone is not dual band wifi (does not support 5GHz) band so if thats a requirement for you, look elsewhere. Otherwise an excellent device.

  • is it dual sim

    • Yep.

  • would anyone do review on how the battery life is for light - medium usage? no gaming, just browsing and whatsApping most of the time.
    Thanks in advance.

      • This or, Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Prime or Redmi Note 3?

        • +1

          water proof, this. otherwise, Xiaomi

        • +2

Battery life is excellent in my case, can last 2 days with normal use. You shouldn't have any issues with battery life on this phone, and it should only get better once it gets 6.0 marshmallow.

        • You should also checkout the Asus zenfone 2 they're great value for money

  • +2

I got one of these phones in the US to use as my travel phone. I was really impressed with the quality and functionality.

    Pros

    Cheap
    Waterproof
    Good build quantity
    No bloatware
    Expandable storage via SD card

    Cons
Camera is not as good as a higher spec phones. Night photos are not as good quality as my iphone 6

I would also recommend getting a 16GB over the 8Gb. After the OS you are only left with 4GB storage for apps, music and photos etc

    • +3

I'm not sure the camera not being as good as the iPhone 6 comes as much surprise given the difference in price points.

      • +3

Agreed. Camera is pretty good. iPhone 6S is 1300+ and this is under 300. Cannot be compared.

    • No NFC, accelerometer, compass, wireless charging. Things that aren't important for a hell of a lot of people, really. Great price for what you get.

      • Actually it has 2 accelerometers

        • pretty sure it has a compass too as it needs it for gps duties

        • @tonyjzx:

No compass, but it has GPS. Not really a big issue unless you absolutely need a compass to work out what direction you're facing.

        • @Adamiam: doesn't having a compass make the GPS lockon faster and track more accurately when changing directions?

        • @Agret: I don't think it really changes the time it takes to get a GPS signal, but a compass does improve a phone's ability to track direction.

You probably won't notice much of a difference using the GPS for car navigation. Using it while walking may be a little bit more difficult, but still usable as normal.

  • Is click and collect for TGG instant? Or like a week as Dick Smith?

    • When I get to checkout it says;

"Ready for pickup today around 3:15 pm"

      • Bought one.. Hope i get the email soon :) Thanks

      • Damn! I wonder if it is possible to change the order to pickup?

      • It appears I was speaking out my bum. Apologies

If you need something to bring it up to $300, why not a gift card?

  • Glitchy WiFi according to Gadget Guy review.

    http://www.gadgetguy.com.au/product/motorola-g-2015-g3-xt155…

    • Never seen a WiFi issue in the 3 weeks of owned this phone

  • howz this compared to HTC Desire 820(https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/220693)

    • That HTC deal is expired.

      • i meant comparing the phone specs.

  • Do OfficeWorks price match these eBay deals?

  • +1

I want to tax return at an airport. What other thing I can buy for another $32?

    • -5

Won't work. Has to be $300 for a device not a collective total.

      • +3

        I don't think that's true: https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Ente/Tour/Are-you-a-traveller
your purchases from any single business total $300 (GST inclusive) or more. For example, if you bought items from one business - even on separate invoices - that together total $300, these items may be eligible for a tax refund under TRS

    • Ha ha, I was thinking about the same thing.

On the other hand, I am also thinking if I should get the Galaxy S5 for $480 plus the 10% tax return. How is Samsung with their OS upgrade, will S5 get Marshmallow?

      • white one is cheaper

  • +1

Bought 2 in the last month, should've waited and saved $120+. Bought the third one today. This phone is fantastic for everyday use. Warms up now and then. Decent camera, water resistant, above avg battery life, avg screen. A lot closer to the naked Android OS, so the OS updates will be quick.

  • +1
  • Like the Moto G except for lack of fingerprint reader. So am also eyeing these dual-SIM China phones with remarkable price-to-features ratio. Anybody else in the same predicament?

    US$100 5.5" UMI Rome -> 3GB/16GB, MTK6753, 2500mAH. !!no 850Mhz 3G!!
    US$120 5.0" Ulephone Paris -> 2GB/16GB, MTK6753, 2250mAH. !!No 850Mhz 3G!!
    US$150 5.5" Ulephone Be Touch 3 -> 3GB/16GB, MTK6753, 2550mAH.
    US$158 5.0" Bluboo Xtouch -> 3GB/32GB, MTK6753, 3050mAH.
    US$180 5.5" Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 -> 2GB/16GB, MTK6795, 4000mAH.

    • +2

Your mileage may vary, but I've had a couple of China phones, and there seems to always be glitches, quirks or plain old annoying functionality issues. The Moto G on the other hand, is just a great phone.

    • Also checkout the Asus zenfone 2

Personally I have the oneplus one 64gb and I've had zero issues with it, amazing phone for the money I paid at the time. I got it when the G3 had just come out and it was virtually the same specs but for $300 less.

  • Thanks for the post, purchased! :)

  • +1

I can recommend this phone. For the price, it's excellent and I wouldn't hesitate recommending it to family/friends who want an Android phone on the cheaper side, but actually reliable with decent performance.

    Pros:
Very durable - Won't break easily when dropped
    Water resistant
Basically stock Android with a few neat Motorola features
Quick performance (720p screen helps with that)
    Expandable memory
    Awesome and reliable battery life

    Cons:
    No NFC
    No compass for GPS

Camera quality isn't too bad, especially for the price. No fingerprint sensor/wireless charging, but that's to be expected for the price.

    • @Adamiam:

      "No compass for GPS"
Does that mean we cannot use Google Maps for navigations like GPS with this phone?

      • +1

GPS for navigation (such as Google Maps) still works fine. Many dedicated GPS units don't have a compass inside. All that is really affected is that it won't know what direction you're facing - but it will know which direction you're probably facing based on where you've moved so far.

  • What case is everyone buying?

    • Yes, I'd like case suggestions too. What, how much and where from would be super handy. I got a Spigen for my s5 and that had paid for itself many times over now.

    • +1

I just put a black s-line TPU case on mine, got it on eBay.

  • Looks good. Especially with the 3% cashback.

However, unlike the other moto phones from the good guys - it doesn't say unlocked. On the otherhand, it doesn't say it's locked to a specific carrier.

Can anybody confirm it is actually unlocked?

Edit: stupid autocorrect turned otherhand into Ireland

    • +1

      it's unlocked

      • Thanks

  • +1

I just bought one of these last night.

    What a great deal!

I chose to pick it up from my local store…

Hopefully it's ready for pickup soon!

I think this is a pretty solid phone for the price…

And, by the way, you can buy 4 of these at this price and it will still be cheaper than an iPhone 6, and you will still have a good solid smartphone to use…

There's no way that an iPhone 6 is 4 times as useful or 4 times as good as the Moto G! :-p

    P.S What's the "640"?

    • +1

      Lumia 640 perhaps?

      • +1

That's what I was thinking too.

I checked it out, and it looks pretty good…

I didn't really consider it in my smartphone research because I was specifically looking for an Android smartphone.

…but it looks alright, and it has Microsoft Office built-in.

Not bad, not bad at all.

The price is excellent, at $239 for the 640 and $339 for the 640XL at Dick Smith on their website

…or $215 for the 640 with eBay 20% off tech promotion.

…and $295.20 for the 640XL with eBay 20% off tech promotion.

        Pretty decent.

Though, I'm quite happy with this Moto G 3rd Gen deal - $268 is pretty damn good…! :-)

        • 640 was $89

        • +1

You can download word from play store for free and it has all features free on phones now. Only tablets require an office 365 subscription now.

        • @Agret: Yes, you're right about that…

Thanks for pointing that out… :-)

  • I just received my Moto G 3rd Gen today.

Ordered it last night with the eBay 20% off deal from The Good Guys eBay store.

I elected to pick it up from my local store.

It showed as "In stock" at my local TGG store.

They sent me an email this morning, as well as called my mobile and left a voicemail saying that my order was ready to be picked up.

Picked it up this afternoon and am now charging it up and playing around with it!

    Booyeh!

    Now that's good stuff!

None of this waiting around for 3-4 days while they ship the item to the store you want to pick up from…

It was already stocked in the store.

    Perfecto!

    Very happy with this.

The Good Guys "Pay less, pay less!"

    haha.

    • +1

That new slogan is becoming rapidly annoying. I come across it all the time on YouTube and TV!

      • +1

        Big time.

If they had any brains they would have ditched it altogether and come up with a brand new slogan, because all anyone is thinking when they hear "Pay less, pay less" is….

        "What the…"

"Wtf happened to pay less, pay cash!?"

        hehe :-)

  • I purchased one of these instore only 2 weeks ago for their $339 special; that should be fine The Good Guys have a 30 Day Price Guarantee. Sweet.
Wrong! The won't honour the guarantee against themselves. They won't even allow me a refund because I've gone beyond 7 days; the phone was purchased as an Xmas gift and has not been touched or opened.

    "The NOT SO Good Guys".

    • TGG tried to charge me a 20% "restocking fee" last time I forgot to use my Amex credit back offer, and no, they are the good guys when you are BUYING.

    • But what exactly are they doing wrong? At law retailers are not obliged to provide recourses for consumers who have changed their mind; anything retailers do to accommodate price matches and change of mind returns are purely voluntary on the retailers' behalf.

    • [/@hedo68]

      That's a bummer, mate…

I could have been in the same position as you if I hadn't clearly specified to myself that my budget for a new smartphone was strictly $200-$300.

…which put the Moto G 3rd Gen out of reach at the original $369 price tag, as well as at the recently reduced price of $336.

But, the Moto G 3rd Gen is the one I really wanted.

I was looking at the Moto E and the Moto G 2nd Gen, but the Moto E didn't have good enough specs for my needs, and the reviews clearly state that there's been significant improvement in the Moto G 3rd Gen over the 2nd Gen…

So, I was pleasantly surprised to see the 20% off tech eBay promotion, and that this phone was in TGG eBay store.

The 20% off promotion put the Moto G 3rd Gen well within my budget, at $268…

      It was a no-brainer, really…

But, it was a close call, since the week before I saw that Office works had the Moto G 2nd Gen on clearance at $243, and I was nearly ready to pull the trigger on that, as my P.O.S LG P-500 had become completely unusable to even send a text, as the screen had become faulty.

      …but, my gut said no.

I'm glad I persisted with the pain of having an unusable phone for a while longer…

The $68 of saving allows me to buy a case for this phone, and the lot will still be under $300…!

By the way, whilst I'm on the topic:

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good case for the Motorola Moto G 3rd Gen?

  • P.S How do you get your post to reply to someone else's post?

I clicked on "reply" to reply to hedo68's post, but the @ reply tag was not automatically included…

Does anyone know how to do it manually?

I'm on my Motorola Moto G, and it didn't include the "@" reply tag…

…but, I believe, that when I'm on my PC it does automatically include it.

Does anyone know why that is?

  • Ordered this on Friday. Only just got the email today saying it was ready for pickup. Not too concerned since the price is great and I didn't need to use it straight away.
