I just read on the website:

"Microsoft Xbox One Console Offer: Stock has been exhausted and no longer available with this device."

I think it is already gone….

    • Wow, unbelievable. Can that be right? I'm following up Optus.

    • Just checked on Website states "300 units left"

      • Confirmation: "No, it’s still going. Still a few left to give away."

      • Which page?

  • I love windows mobile but i dont like the price of a decent handset. Currently on samsung s5 android5.

Best phone was my iphone but just toooo expensive to replace.

Think i will be stuck on android fir a while if i want fhd screen and 4G under $400.

    • Hang in there. Everything is 4G now, at least.

    • If you want a FHD screen that rules out most iPhones

I just recontracted with Teltra on a phone plan and went from a Samsung Galaxy S4 to an LG G4. Love the apps and customization but …

I have to say Android has gone a little loopy. When did right swiping a whole conversation in SMS mean "Please delete from existence all trace I'd been speaking with this person for years without confirmation"…there's a little undo button but if you don't hit it right away it's gone forever. Really? Try Google messaging instead of LG messanging and same deal. Same thing in the default gallery app. Does Apple and Android also do this? Whoever came up with this convention for deletion needs to be tried for war crimes.

Anyway I won't put up with such a critical app having a flaw that means my fumbling the phone deletes everything. I've had to find other apps to use in their place and I have - after spending hours seeing lots of apps that are very similar (copying each other, or built on default app source code but with a ton of ads). The new apps are far from perfect too but I can live with the flaws.

I'm afraid 'droid is turning into a cesspool. Won't touch Apple or Microsoft with barge poll but it's a real worry.

        • -1

On HTC M9, and it doesn't do that, and I'm pretty certain the function on Samsung when you right swipe is to call that person. So i'd say it is isolated to the LG phone, not an android wide function. Are you certain there is no option to turn that off at all? I know that happens in the gmail app, but you can create the option of having a confirmation with it.

        • @ONEMariachi:

Yep absolutely certain there's no way to switch that off.

Google Messenger does it too. So it isn't just LG.

Go to the conversation and right swipe and whoosh it's gone with a nice little "undo" button you'd better press very quickly.

        • Stock Android (Lollipop) does not even have swipe for SMSs.

        • +1

          @McFly:

I really wish I could get the stock app. It's boring and I don't love the layout but it's functional. I have a crappy Telstra Buzz I bought on a lark and it doesn't have this problem. But LG and Google have gone mad.

First discovered this madness in the photo gallery. When I hit the delete button again the image is gone with just an undo. Lots of gallery apps in the Play Store do this.

Delete on swipe (without confirmation) is evil and should be nuked with fire.

        • @syousef: I don't think Hangouts or Textra does this, and can probably be customised on Textra if not both apps.

        • @Trishool:

Thanks for the heads up. I tried Textra a couple of days ago and it is terrible - it just spams me.

At the moment I'm using ChompSMS. The only thing I can find wrong with chomp is that it sends multiple images as multiple MMS (i.e. one image each) and doesn't do slideshows at all. I can live with that on my current plan. I don't send MMS overseas at all and I have unlimited in Aus.

I might check out Hangouts at some point.

    • Agreed. The marketplace is just not there.

Currently using an Android (personal) and iPhone (work). Not a fanboy but have to say that the iPhone is so much better for work purposes - never any lag or bugs, whereas my HTC crashes every now and then when I run too many apps at once or install too many things in one go.

      • +1

Pretty much, had the Microsoft rep come into work, trying to convince me that Windows is good now. Got me to try and name to him what apps I used, ended up naming a good 10 that he couldn't find straight away. The Lumias made good cameras and probably the best integration with outlook, but that is literally all they're good for. which is about 10% of what I use my phone for.

  • How can I buy the phone with no plan?

    • +1

      PM you :-)

      • Please pm me too

        • your PM not enabled :-)

        • @annielee:

Sorry about that. Try now. Thanks!

      • PM me tooooo…thanks~~~

      • Please PM me too! :)

      • And can I get PMd too please :)

      • Please PM me too. Thanks!

  • 287 left!

    • Damn, look like this phone is popular…giggle…

  • Can this be bought outright?

    • Most likely yes, Optus tends to sell their new phones outright except new apple models. My mate purchased the Galaxy S6 outright first day with Optus. Go to your optus store on release date and find out. They also sold the Nexus 6P outright on the first day too

      • I assume he means for this deal. On the store page there doesn't seem to be a way to purchase the phone outright and you have to purchase a plan to get this deal.

    • Wondering the same

  • Is Telstra likely to have any kind of offer? I'm happy to switch but this deal might run out before I get home to any valid form of ID, my license lapsed >_>

    • I'm counting on it!

Xbox is unexpected, I would have thought a continuum dock or something.

  • +1

    Just Ordered. Thanks OP.
If you have ABN number, Optus offering two months free of charge on what ever plan you signed for.

  • Is it locked to Optus? Ie. can I get the optus sim stick it in my tablet and use a Teltra sim in the phone?

    • meh chat confirmed it is UNlocked ordered thanks OP!

I'm using an LG G4 right now and having come from Windows Phone 8.1 i'll definitely be going back to windows next phone. There's just too many features that I miss from WP8.1 that aren't in Android.

    • +6

I'm genuinely curious what features WP has that Android doesn't. FYI I came from WP to Android because the lack of apps and poor WP OS features.

      • +1

        My #1 features:
Glance screen - I can see the address of my next appointment without unlocking the phone.
Multiple email icons on home screen - one for each folder in inbox if I want - showing unread email count. Its great for work I have server side rules for different emails.
Hide my caller ID if the person I'm calling is not in contacts.
        Fantastic keyboard.

        • FWIW there's a Glance screen feature on LG phones too. My Lumia flagship doesn't even have Glance though, I can't even pair it with my smartwatch.

I'll give you a point for the Keyboard (in wm10 not functional at moment on my phone), the keyboard when functional is the best aspect on wp. The only negatives is no number row. Put a number row, no customization, add those features and it'll be best keyboard on smartphone.

      • I miss mostly the bluetooth features while driving. Get a SMS and WP tells you who it's from and offers to read it to you. Then asks if you want to reply. All via voice. The other thing I miss is the interface, on WP it was perfection. The Android interface is just "meh" in comparrison. It does the job sure, but it's nowhere near as info-rich and customizable as the live tiles of WP. Full Office intergration built in and the way it handles email and calendar are also brilliant as others pointed out. The glance screen is also another thing I miss. The G4 "sort of" has a glance screen but the nokia one is way better and doesn't take 5 attempts to see the info you want (it takes one).

Apps are plentiful on both WP and Android. I have only found one app that I wanted that had no WP equivalent (Snapchat). The apps argument really is a non-issue to me. Android has millions of apps but the vast majority of them are never going to get used by anyone.

    • I went from lumia back to Android. Love my g4. What can't it do?

      • Run Windows Apps :)

        • Lumia can't run Microsoft Windows apps either. Windows mobile apps, on the other hand…

        • @tomkun01: G4 is a great phone I like it.never tried Windows phone.

  • $40 plan + $20 handset fee = $60 * 24 = $1440

    Lumia 950 retails for $999 [$800 on eBay/Gumtree]
Xbox One Bundle retails for $499 [$350 on eBay/Gumtree]

    1440 - 1150 = $290/24 = ~$12.90 per month for plan

Pretty good value if you are a low data user (500mb) and don't need international calls.

    • If you are happy to pay rrp and forgo the 200gb sd card.

  • +1

If you get the XBOX for buying the 950 Outright ($999) then im in, else for a 12 months plan - no way

  • -6

    pretty shitty phone

  • -2

Why don't you get the lumia 640 for $89 and an Xbox one bundle for $300. Less than $400 all up, better than half price compared to this scam.

    • +7

Because the 950 is a significantly better phone?

    • +1

Who is doing the 640 for $89?

  • +6

Microsoft reps must be here. The negs are flying out for anyone saying these phones aren't worth it. Who $1000 for a phone with very minimal app support?

    • +3

I don't give a rats fat about apps. I use the phone for work. Email and calendar. For that it cant be beat.

      • +1

$1000 for a phone that you just use for email is a bit ridiculous though. The $100 phones do that perfectly

      • +4

why would you need a $1000 phone for email and calendar? Any "business" which throws money around like this won't be in business for much longer.

        • +1

I was jumping the gun on email and calendar. I forgot to mention web browsing. I often need to look up info on the job, so my interface to the WWW needs to be top notch. Plus I'm impatient! This phone delivers that. A flagship phone offers the quickest browsing experience, and I hate waiting for a device to catch up to me. I should be the bottleneck - not the device… Don't get me started on Foxtel boxes haha

Its the way Windows does email and calendar. Indeed I can grab a Lumia 520 or something much cheaper. But its all the little things that add up. Cheaper phones have atrocious screens. They are slow. The camera is horrible.

        • I'm in the same position as you. Apps are a bonus for me but I can understand the lack of apps deterring many. Personally I want a phone with the best camera possible (for work purposes). My Lumia 920 is now three years old so its time for an upgrade.

        • @bigjezza:

Haha you seriously can't be claiming that Windows phones offers a good browser?

        • @Ronnnie:
I wouldn't have claimed that one year ago, but Edge seems OK on WM10

I haven't used Android much lately, the S6 was too laggy for my liking
Several web sites I visit crash Safari regularly. Need I say more?

        • -1

          @bigjezza:

I have a Lumia 930. I disagree, edge is crappy. It's slower on some websites than the Telstra Buzz.

        • @bigjezza: g4 does all of that with an amazing camera for $450

        • @tomkun01: Hmm can I put individual folders from email and accounts on the homescreen with unread count for each one?
Does it have the address for the current event on the lock screen, home screen and when its off? These are really important features for me :)

        • @bigjezza: screen on when the phone is off?
Anyone can make Android apps. It is very customisable. Not sure if it's exactly what you're looking for, but I do get notifications on my lock screen and they also get sent to my pebble via Bluetooth

      • +1

Then it's still crap choice, the 640 is much better for those types of users.

        • The 640 is good but its camera is not flagship standard.

        • @Wallyt99:

Well get a 1020 instead, better camera than the 950 and save a heap of dollars. Do all the same things you want to do with the phone.

        • +2

          @Ronnnie:
The camera on the 1020 is quite irritating. Sub 1 shots per second. The 950XL is dramatically faster. If I was into scenery, yeah, 1020 all the way. But I'm not - my subjects move.

        • -1

          @bigjezza:

the 950xl is slow compared to other flagship phones too. I thought if speed was important in a camera then you wouldn't be buying a Lumia anyhow?

It takes around 3.5 seconds to take photo from launching camera app vs around 2 seconds with other phones.

    • +5

I'd say on the flipside there are also a lot of people saying it's a crap phone, when they have never used this, or any other Windows Phone.

Windows is definitely miles behind in App support, but having a million apps isn't the be all and end all for every phone user.

      • Apps are only one problem, Windows mobile 10 is another big problem with this phone at this point.

        • +1

Have you even used it? I'm really liking Windows 10 mobile on my 930.
And the only app I miss is Snapchat - only because a couple of sports teams I follow use it.
