  • Can these be used as NAS HD or it is used for different purpose?

They can, but just be aware that their write performance is pretty average (this isn't a bad thing, it fulfills it role quite well!)

SOURCE: I currently have 6 in a RaidZ2 configuration. Primarily for use as a media and offsite storage type functions. Works fine for this.

better avoid using in nas or primary OS drive.

I have a couple in my Synology DS1515+ NAS. I have them setup as basic drives (no raid). I've found write speeds fine. Don't notice any difference between them and the WD Green & Red drives I have in the NAS too. They are basically full of media files so not a lot of new writes.

  • I wonder what the best price is from the selected retailers.

  • I had a quick look and all the prices for this drive range between $315 and $330.
So depending on where you live, pickup could be as cheap as $295 AUD which is (profanity) cheap for 8TB

I paid $275 back in June during an eBay 20% off sale…

  • Is this still valid? the promo in the original post reads "….between 00:01 AEDT 30th November 2015 to 17st January 2016"

It looks like it should be the 1st Jan???
