Would be more enticing if it ran Android.

  • tempted to cancel my 11.6-inch crapbook, Amazon order seeing as it hasn't shipped, for this.

    • Which one did you buy? I sorta regret buying the chromebook from amazon as its useless to me.

      • EC's US$111 bargain with the low res TN panel 1/4 of the RAM or eMMC and Celeron.

        • -1

Is that chrome os or windows? This seems pretty good spec wise for the price.

        • @mark96: my first chrome and I suppose on par with 2013/ 14 entry level laptops. Brand new and gets 100gb free google drive.

        • @daver: I'd be happy to take it off you at a discount. :) Chromebooks don't require as much resources as Windows laptops. My old Samsung Chromebook is more responsive than the W10 Acer Bay Trail laptop I bought for a reli recently.

@greenpossum: It looks a pretty well refined product - no.1 best seller in its category on Amazon; better I hold on to my already ~43% discounted Acer.

Against the < aud 300 range Chuwi10 I also looked at refurbished Toshiba/shiny 13.3" Chromebook in Amazon.. But these will keep until Android Nutella blend gets up in 2017 (for CBs vs Win11).

  • Plastic or glass screen ?

  • Just be aware that there's a good chance that the sellers don't actually have enough units in stock.

I purchased a tablet during the 11.11 sale (albiet with a different seller) and I'm still waiting to see when it's going to ship despite paying for dhl shipping.

    • wow, I'm in exactly the same boat.

Did you get the Cube i7 stylus?

These guys first gave me a fake DHL number and now they gave me another number that doesn't show "Package received" yet.

Planning to cancel next week if it doesn't show up.

      Whats happening with your order?

      • Yep same issue. I have a working number but at the moment it's only showing "Shipment information received".

I'm going to give them till next week but I'll definitely be disputing the shipping charges even if it magically turns up tomorrow.

        • Good to see I'm not alone.

Lets keep each other posted to see if one of these tablets will actually get here.

        • @Brotality:

Holy shit. DHL is actually reporting it as "Shipment picked up".

        • @lolcoaster:

wow, same thing here. It's been so long it is a bit hard to believe. It says expected delivery tomorrow end of day as well.

I guess we will find out soon enough.

          Thanks for the update!

        • @Brotality: Only leff HK today. Doubt it'll be here by the end of today :(

        • @lolcoaster:

Sorry to hear that man, mine actually got here today.

I have to say, I'm somewhat impressed. It was a total hit or miss and its actually not bad at all.

Screen is decent enough. It is handling windows 10 like a breeze so far. Only current let down is the Bluetooth range, but I'm yet to try a few different devices.

I'm also a bit disappointed that I found a user already created. Only God knows what kind of keyloggers could be installed on it. I will see if PC reset will work properly. Otherwise I have no idea how the bios on this thing works.

I've had it on for 30 minutes or so now, and it is starting to get HOT to touch (room temp around 30 degrees), though not to the point of burning yet. I'm not sure if getting a cover for it is a good or bad idea, depending of course on what you care about the most. Your hand or performance.

This screen doesn't look it can handle any scratches, it comes with a temporary protection which is even worse. So in case you haven't bought one yet, I recommend that you get one of these tempered glass protectors. I haven't tried mine yet, but I'm pretty sure it will be better than what it has on it now.

I will update you with more info if you like as I use it a bit more. I will definitely let you know if PC reset bricks the tablet so you don't have to suffer the same fate.

Have a nice weekend and feel free to ask me any questions!

        • @Brotality: You should check if the key is genuine or some volume license.

Also did your tracking say Departed Facility in HK last night?

        • @lolcoaster:

Yep, it left HK last night. From what I've seen with DHL, their expected date and time is pretty accurate.

Also, surprisingly enough, it comes with a Genuine Retail Windows 10 Home (x64).

There is still something that is bothering me though. After it finished the reset. I still found 2 odd short cuts to some Korean websites on the desktop. Which means they played around with the original windows image that is installed on the tablet. I don't think I will be able to trust it with any of my passwords yet.

Guess I will have to figure out how that bios work and install a clean copy that I can trust.

          And oh God, the drivers…..

        • @Brotality: Just do a clean install by downloading a copy of win10 off MS' own site.

or ask for a refund lol.

        • @lolcoaster:

          FINALLY!

After banging my head on various walls when the tablet was

          Not loading bios

          Not recognising the flash drive

Recognise the flash drive then disappear mysteriously

Ask for drivers when installing windows (Have seen that with few RAID setups, but made 0 sense since I could actually browse the SSD for drivers, WTF!!)

Cut off during installation after it suddenly stopped asking for drivers.

Anyway….. Turns out for whatever reason (faulty hub/faulty drive/ unusual cosmic rays activity) the USB drive (Ultra Fit) was over heating and causing all kinds of random problems.

Now I finally have clean windows. I apologise for the rant, I've been staring at the thing for roughly 4 hours straight.

I left the reserved system and recovery partitions alone, not sure what would've happened if I deleted everything. I couldn't handle more unexpected behaviour at this point. I wonder if there is a security risk leaving these behind…

Also found all of the drivers on xda developers website.

        • @Brotality: Finally got the tablet today. Seems to have a genuine key (although same issue you had with the already created account and korean folders.

Just wondering, how's the pen? Mine seems a bit iffy but I haven't taken the cheapo plastic cover off yet. Also it seems to take a little longer than I would expect for the screen to turn back on when pressing the power button.

Overall, you happy with your device?

        • @lolcoaster:

I didn't really get a pen with it, so I can't really tell.

It actually comes with 2 screen covers, one with the cube stuff on the corner and another one underneath. Tempered glass improves the touch feel dramatically, but its a b*tch to put it on correctly with a screen this big. Some people in the feedback mentioned good stylus response too.

When I lock the tablet, it seems that it goes into sleep. It usually takes about 1-2 seconds to starts up, feels like normal windows behaviour to me. Overnight it seems to hibernate and wake up time is around 5-7 seconds or so.

Overall, I'm quite happy with it. I'm currently looking around to get a USB hub, bluetooth peripherals, stand/cover, bag, Mini HDMI to HDMI/VGA, another power supply for the road, SD card, etc…

Let me know if you are after these stuff as well, I will send you the links to the stuff I find.

Any luck disputing the DHL fee on the tablet?

        • @Brotality: Haven't disputed yet - but will do so soon along with the pen which they ripped me off with some generic one.

  • Woohoo, first 500 so I get a free keyboard!

  • Just a warning on the "Windows 10 support" for these its a little painful. I had the 8" model and returned it as it uses Microsoft KMS to activate the product which isn't really legal as its exposed to the internet, these are normally used internally within a business. What this means is the tablet will always require internet access to keep the product active every 180 days. If ChuWi decide to close down then your Windows will no longer be activated and useless.

    • If you do get such a tablet, you should at least be asking for a partial refund.

      • Yeah mine went back straight away once I discovered this, the Windows 10 support is also hit and miss on the HI8 and the update for Android doesn't exist for anything above what came with it. Don't get me wrong the hardware was very good for the price, but without proper support and a activation system that could be turned off any day I didn't want to waste my money and returned it for a refund.
