Dick Smith SEAGATE Central Shared 3.5" 2TB HDD $89 [C&C] + Delivery Otherwise $11.95- $14.95

140

It's not the cheapest deal that we have had, but thought it was reasonable.

Before you decide to "broden" it all from everyone else - there are existing ebay deals such as this one on the market already.

Coupon does not seem to work, it is probably subject to the famous *exclusions apply.

  • Ebay deal is 3tb. M… do I want ones.

    • Yeah, it is. $30 for the additional 1TB. The 2TB is selling for more than the 3TB on ebay.

      • It's because the 3TB has a terrible fail rate, making the 2TB more desirable.

  • and if you do broden it try not to be so proud.

  • I bought one of these yesterday. As usual only one in store.

  • Can you add 3.5" to the title

  • I bought the 3TB version for $118 (including post) from here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/222200

  • Guys, just bought a 3TB one of these last week for $121 delivered - http://www.businessbargains.com.au/epages/shop.sf/en_AU/?Obj…

  • Does this one has the USB port soldier on the drive?

    • +3

      I don't think these are mil. spec…

    • +2

      Port soldier?
      That would be Navy.
If you visit their HQ, remember to keep your back to the wall at all times.
And if they "drop" something, don't pick it up.

  • No Units in western side of Melbourne

    • Maybe Ozbargainers could buy them together and pay for the one delivery fee and subdivide/split the delivery fee. Five units will equate to $459 and will work out to be $91.80. SCRAP THAT broden has cleared out delivery!

Anyone thinking of purchasing this external to keep important files on or as a backup drive - be warned.

These cheap external drive almost exclusively use the lowest quality drives. Low RPB/low binned/low power drives.

    The failure rate are INSANE.

They are ok for keeping non important files on them, but be aware that the chance of failure after 2-3 years of even light use is VERY high.

My seagate one i purchased a year ago stopped working on USB 3.0. The usb cable and power cable is loose, touch it slightly it restarts. Bad design.

      • Yeah, if you ever get a chance to pull apart any of these cheap externals, you'll see why.

The solders are extremely thin and of very low quality. They cut any corner they can to produce these as cheap as possible.

        All brand do it.

If you want an external that is reliable, buy a decent quality 3.5" HDD (not the low power/green drives) and put it in a decent quality aftermarket Caddy. It's a little more costly upfront, but pays for itself in the long run because you don't need to keep replacing your external drive every 12-24 months.

  • Looks like USB2

  • WTF is this? Neither Dicks nor Seagate seem to have proper specifications - they are very dumbed down.
    What protocols does it support?

It mentions Time machine, so proper AFP support? I'm assuming SMB and DLNA. How about NFS, HTTP?
Would be nice if the USB port let it mirror to an external drive.

    • Would be nice if post'ers put up (links to) spec's for their deals…

      • Its not the poster. Dick Smith and Seagate put little info in their "specs", just salesman babble.

I was just trying to figure out how much it can do without a proprietary client, but none left locally anyway.

        • Link to manufacturer's web sites.

  • looks like none in Perth

    • Maybe Ozbargainers could buy them together and pay for the one delivery fee and subdivide/split the delivery fee. Five units will equate to $459 and will work out to be $91.80. SCRAP THAT broden has cleared out delivery.

  • I would recommend get yourself a proper NAS like qnap or synology, etc and mirror raid configuration. A small investment and save from a lot of troubles.

  • I can confirm that this is using Twonky if anyone wants to know.

    • and it's using a Pipeline HDD

  • On in DJ Brisbane CBD.

    Be wary of 3TB drives…
