Darn and i just bought one from Woolworths yesterday for $5. Then again i didn't need to wait for a delivery.

    • Keep it. These are pretty short dated.

      • invalid code? anyone?

  • just note the short expiry for the $30 starter kits for those not intending to use it straight away

    • Get a $30 Prepaid SIM Starter Kit for $10, save up to $20

This SIM is one size fits all and will work in mobiles which use a standard, micro or nano SIM
Activate a $30 SIM Starter Kit on to My Prepaid Ultimate before 12 February 2016 and get:
Unlimited standard national calls and texts
          5GB total data, normally 1.5GB!
All for use in Australia within 28 days (one per customer)

      • What is the expiry date? How do you know it's short?

        • -1

          read above :)

        • -3

Yeah but 12 Feb 2016 is still a bit away yet so should be fine.

Personally i went for the Monthly Plus plan instead as it's the same 1.5GB data (doesn't have the bonus 5GB total data on the first recharge but that bonus 5GB only happens once any way) but a 30 day expiry instead of the 28 days on the Prepaid Ultimate plan for the same $30. They're cheating you out of 2 days if sign up to the Prepaid Ultimate instead of Monthly Plus.

        • -1

@hollykryten: read my post again "Activate a $30 SIM Starter Kit on to My Prepaid Ultimate before 12 February 2016"

        • +1

          @smacko:

Which is over 2 months away so should be fine for most people.

        • @hollykryten: Not if you just took on that amaysim 6 month deal.

        • +2

@smacko: February 12th is the date when the bonus 3.5 GB expires (normally 1.5 GB, now 5 GB). It is not necessarily the expiry date of the SIM.

          @ronnknee:

That's how I read it too.

      • bought 6 at woolies all expire dec 2016

    • Same story with the Woolies $5 offer, the SIM I got had an expiry of 2/16. Cheapskate Optus trying to clear out old SIMs again. Fortunately I need to use that one before then.

      • The SIM i got from Woolies yesterday had an expiry date in mid 2016.

        • Similar thing happened with the ATM coupons for Optus SIMs at Coles Express.

  • Edit, worked it out. Thanks OP.

  • Thank you OP, completely forgot about original VISA10 deal. You snooze you win (this time)

  • Probably answered 100 times, but do you need a visa card for visa checkout? or is it like a paypal in between payment system?

    • you can use any card, but the merchant/scoopon doesn't accept amex.

    • No just make an account.

    • ok thanks, will make an account.

  • Got it thanks.

  • Got one. Thanks OP.

  • Invalid coupon code: You have already used this coupon the maximum times available :(

    • You have to add the $1 donation to cart first. Edit: whoops didn't read the whole error…..sorry.

    • +1

Create another account. If you use gmai, you can also have multiple alias like c.cwwayne cc.wayne ccw.aye etc.

  • +1

Can you use this to get the free cricket streaming subscription?

    • Yes. It works really well too. YMMV.

  • Great first post OP.. too bad I've used the code already!

  • +2

If a $2 donation is tax deductible we should do a $2 donation so the charity gets more but it won't cost an extra $1 :)

    • That's not how it works.

Suppose you're in the bracket that taxes you X cents for every dollar you earn (above the previous brackets). If you make a donation of $Y, then you only get XY cents back.

      • So like I said they get the extra $1 but it doesn't cost you a full one dollar…

        • Okay. If that's the case, then why stop at $2? Why don't you donate even more since every dollar thereafter will cost you a fraction of a dollar but the charity still gets the full dollar?

        • +2

@ronnknee: Yeah, some people think tax deduction = refund.

I just don't get how people can be that ignorant.

If that's the case, we may as well donate all disposable income, since it's a "free" donation paid for by the government, right?

I hear this all the time from people who pay a tax accountant $100 to do a personal income tax return that takes the agent 5 minutes to do, instead of doing it themselves. "The tax return is tax deductable. Why not?"

        • @ronnknee:

          A $1 donation isn't tax deductible, a $2 donation is. That's why I suggested it.

PS way to edit your comment and remove what you originally said

        • @jamestownfx: How does it benefit you though?

        • @ronnknee:

Well how does giving anything to charity benefit you? Why give anything if it doesn't 'benefit' you?

My point was why not give the extra $1 to help out the charity, by them getting an extra dollar and it doesn't cost you the full dollar. Whereas the first one dollar you give costs you the full one dollar.

        • @lostn:

jamestownfx didn't say it would cost him $0 though. He just said it wouldn't cost a full $1 for him, and the other party would still get a full $1. That's technically correct.

        • @jamestownfx: You just stated the benefit ie. "by them getting an extra dollar and it doesn't cost you the full dollar". Now my point is, why stop at $2 and not give more?

        • +2

          @ronnknee:

If you earn over $37,000 but less than $80,000 (most Australians) you pay 32.5% tax plus 2% Medicare levy
          (total 34.5%).

$1 donation is not tax deductible, it will cost you $1
$2 donation is tax deductible, if you claim a tax deduction it will cost you $1.31

Increasing the donation from $1 to $2 will only cost you an extra 31c
Each dollar after that costs you 65.5c more.

That is why you stop at $2.

        • @AnophthalmiaCervidae: What kind of jobs do most australians do for that 80k? I'm not questioning this statistic, because I know it to be true. I'm just a little depressed because I don't make anywhere near that, and it would suggest to me that the underlings who work entry level jobs, like retail or service are in the minority.

Increasing the donation from $1 to $2 will only cost you an extra 31c
Each dollar after that costs you 65.5c more.

That is why you stop at $2.

His criteria was only that it doesn't cost you a full dollar for each dollar. So even if you only get taxed at 1%, technically donating the next extra dollar would still only cost 99c and not the full dollar. So if that reasoning alone was all there is, you shouldn't ever stop donating.

You can donate up to $10 without a receipt (and get a tax deduction on it), so even if you didn't donate anything you can still say you donated $10.

        • @lostn:
How much benefit does the charity get if you don't donate anything and just say you donated $10 to claim the tax deduction?

  • We can use this to get the Cricket Australia live pass, right?

I am a Pre-Paid Customer. Can I use this service?

Unfortunately at this stage only post-paid Optus customers with an eligible android device can pay for the above mentioned services with their post-paid Optus bill.

Only postpaid works for Optus. Whoops now I have some spare Optus sims if anyone needs them. At least I donated to charity :)

  • In the "download scoopons" are it says to "Use by 27th January 2016" would you suggest this is the sim expiry date?

  • Hi guys,
Just quick question, Just bought the scoopon now for Optus. It says offer end 17 Dec 2015 and want to know how can i order my prepaid Optus sim . Please provide the link or advise.
    Ta

    • Hi, You don't have to claim/order the sim. You would receive the order to your mailing address before Christmas as per below.

Please order before 12pm on 10 December 2015 to guarantee delivery before Christmas. (Orders placed after that time may not be delivered before Christmas)

  • can i use this for long expiry cap? and port in my own number?
    Thanks.

    • Yes you can, Just select the Plan type (under option 4) and port option(under option 3) when you activate this sim on https://www.optus.com.au/customercentre/activateprepaid

      • Thanks mate

      • Bought it 2 days back, wondering how long the delivery will take? It says before "Christmas" which is pretty vague.

      • Any update on dispatch of the card?

  • Thanks OP! purchased 1

  • February 12th is the date when the bonus 3.5 GB expires (normally 1.5 GB, now 5 GB). It is not necessarily the expiry date of the SIM.

    http://www.optus.com.au/shop/prepaid/sim-card/30-sim

    • Did that get extended or something?? The previous expiry date for the bonus data was 4th December (today)

      • No idea, but I saw yesterday while researching on prepaid SIMs.

  • +3

On a side note…just came through this…WTF is this!

    Any explenation will be greatful!

    https://www.scoopon.com.au/deals/67517/instant-christmas-din…

    • LOL wtf.. I'm just as lost as you. Looks highly unusual.

    • I don't know what it is but I bought 2.

    • maybe we bring this voucher n a bottle water to a neighour dinner . then will get a xmas feast . yeh got 2 too .

    • Signed up using Facebook to just try out this haha

Got payment invoice and noticed this under the "How to Redeem" section.

Your address will be collected at checkout and will be supplied to ACME Catering Inc for delivery purposes.

Go back to Scoopon to check if my address had somehow magically been grabbed from Facebook. None :( No Christmas dinner for me

  • Hi thanks for the post. Im new to pre paid, currently on mo th to month sim only with Vodafone. If i activate this, how do i keep using my old number? After 1 month from activation the sim Expires so does that mean I have to find another pre paid sim? Thanks

    • +1

You would be able to port your number to Optus when your activating your sim (under option 3: Your Number) on https://www.optus.com.au/customercentre/activateprepaid.

You don't need a new sim after 28 days, just recharge before the 28 days expiry to ensure leftover data is carried over to the next month at https://secure-optus.com.au/oor/launch?msn-check-done=true. There are also options to set up direct debit.

      • +1

Thank you for the reply. So unused data will be rolled over to following month everytime?

        • Yes, unused data keeps rolling over up to 10GB when you recharge before expiry.

        • @sbat: I see. Thanks

        • @sbat: hello, so you are a rep from Optus? Seems on one has got their SIM so far, would you please shed light to what's going on?

        • @sbat:

My sim pack reads "Expires on 1 Dec 2016".. if that's the expiry date, then what are fellow OzBargainers referring to February dates for?

  • Damm I made the order and forget to enter the coupon .

  • Invalid expired code on visa10 any ideas?

    • Did your order come to $11 total?

      • I also had an invalid/expired when I entered the optus coupon only. Added the make a wish $1 and it went through fine.

  • Just purchased this but it says:

    Use By: 27 January 16

Given it says activate before 12 February 2016, I thought it may give you more time before it expired.

  • I keep getting "Payment declined"….anyone got the same problem? I used other stores no problem.

There was an error completing your order
The reason for the issue is: Payment declined.
You have not been charged and your cart still has your deals. Would you like to checkout again?

Edit: Now I cant use the coupon as it showed "Invalid coupon code: You have already used this coupon the maximum times available" and I didnt get any order in "my shopping orders".

    • Looks like a single use coupon, you can start an account with another email.
I had a problem with my UBank visa card. But my Suncorp card worked fine.
The total needs to add up to $11

You can get a 6% cashback from shopandmint.com.

Thanks OP, just ordered:), as i never used scoopon before here is a dumb question: i have paid the $1 via visaCheckout here is how its printed on the scoopon checkout page:
    Your Order Summary
    ORDER ID xxxxxx
    SUB TOTAL $11.00
    COUPON -$10.00
    TOTAL $1.00
Download or email your Scoopons now using the links below or later by visiting the 'My Scoopons' section of your account.

and I entered the shipping address onto scoopon before checkout… do i need to do anything further to get the sim card? bit confused with this writing above: "Download or email your Scoopons now using the links below or later by visiting the 'My Scoopons' section of your account"

Just bought it now, wondering how long delivery will take if bought before 10 Dec?

  • is there a limit the number of times you can use VISA10 and the number of time you can buy this sim back?

  • on scoopon website it says: Available On: 01 December 15Use By: 26 January 16 but above comments say ACTIVATE BEFORE 12 FEBRUARY 2016 . went is the lastest i can activate the sim by apart from pack expiry date?

  • has anyone received the SIM?

    • Not yet, do they usually notify you when it has been shipped?

      • not sure, will be on holiday soon so want to get it before leave

    • Received this morning by Registered Post.

  • Sorry never mind, apparently even though the VISA10 code is advertised on site again it doesn't work at checkout, what a let down.

  • No sim delivered here yet.

  • +1
