[QLD] Yatala Famous Pies - Family Size Apple Pie $6.50

520

Heading home from the Gold Coast this afternoon, and Yatala Pies are selling Family Apple pies for just $6.50. For those that know their pies, you know how good this deal is! They had a fairly large shelving unit with about 5 shelves full of them about 3pm.

For those that don't know. Regular price for Family size Apple Pie (with or without Cream) is $8.00

    • If you're buying small pies, theres a voucher for free peas/potato on the specials page of the website too.

      • +2

but not on an apple pie please.

    • Based on your link, you should put in the title this is for QLD only…

      • +1

The Gold Coast part doesn't give it away!?!?

    • +2

Predictable response from the famous jv.

      • -6

        Yes, based on fact

      • +5

The word you're looking for is infamous.

    • JV you have had your head in the sand if you are not aware of Yatala Pies.

      • How many stores do they have?

        • Pretty sure there's only 1 (but it's HUGE) but they also distribute their pies via fund raisers all over SE Qld

        • @kcbworth:

Well I've definitely never heard of them until now… So I wouldn't call them famous…

        • +7

@jv: all relative… jv, spackbase, and tightarse are famous amongst ozbargainers but plenty of others wouldn't have heard of them ;)

      • ??? I've never heard of them either. So I also must have my head in the sand… Sober thoughts indeed.

    • +1

Apparently the definition of famous is "jv has heard of them". Yatala Pies is indisputably famous in south east Queensland.

Their quality has gone downhill in recent years though.

  • +2

    Best pies in SEQ

      • +31

Go away jv. You contribute nothing.

        • Negative utility is not nothing.

        • +9

          jv? Never heard of her.

    • Nooooope… Not the best, kinda overrated..

If you're in Mt gravatt brisbane give perfection a go! IMO much better than yatala.

      • Perfection? Is that the name of the place? I live close by and need a new pie store.

        • +2

Piefection. Logan Rd, Mt Gravatt & a new branch now in Coorparoo. Excellent pies.

        • Sorry auto-correct.. Piefection

        • @Chongy288:
          And excellent milkshakes

    • +1

Years ago maybe. These days they're pretty average.

    • +1

You need to get out more.
They are above average at best.

  • +5

    Just above NENSW ;)

  • +2

    Best pies in Australia!

    • have to disagree… used to be good but not any more.

Highly recommend you give Fernvale a go.

      http://www.oldfernvalebakery.com/

If the pies don't change your opinion then I'll buy you some of your 'best pies in Australia' for your family.

      • +2

Inb4 JV asks where Fernvale is.

Gotta agree, Yatala Pies used to be good a long time ago.

      • Ashame it is in the middle of nowhere or a thoroughfare to somewhere.. I would like to give it a go.

      • Yup, fernvale pies are amazing. Beefies make pretty decent pies closer to town. Both far and away better than the rubbish yatala pies sell these days.

Fernvale bakery is worth a day trip though.

  • +2

Never heard of them but this thread has convinced me that yatala will be my first stop when I am in gold Coast next

    • +5

Its so famous it even has directions from the Pacific Motorway using the 'Brown - Tourism Related Road Signs'.

    • +3

its between gold coast and brisbane.

    • +4

Don't get too worked up about it - I've never been impressed with them.
I've even made better pies than I've eaten there - and I wouldn't be entering any pie comps.
You'll find better pies all over Australia at many smaller bakeries.

      • yes that's very true. When you make as many pies as they do in a day. Quality's never the same.

        • +1

Yeah, they're good, but they're not as great as everyone says. Granted, I do like their pastry, but the filling is more often than not just gravy with little substance.

      • +1

FWIW I prefer Syd's Pies, not much farther up the M1 (can see it from the highway). Pastry seems much nicer than present-day Yatala Pies.

Yatala Pies do make nice apple pies, though. Thanks to the OP.

  • Definitely best pies I've ever had. Just never get a bloody chicken pie ever again! That wasn't a good experience.

    • +5

So best pies ever, except when they are not.

      • Indeed. But I learnt the lesson you don't go to a pie shop to order chicken.

    • That wasn't a good experience.

Possibly a hygiene issue with this store then?

      • -1

Why would you suggest it was a hygiene issue?

  • -1

What's the saving here? Doesn't this belong in the forum?

    • +1

      They're normally $8

  • Any deals on the Samsung pies?

    • +2

I'm sure you could find a good raspberry pi deal.

      • Yes…Raspberry Pi Zero!!!

  • +1

Best Pie in Yatala for sure!

  • +1

Clearly nobody here has tried Piefection

    • logan road? i love their pies!

    • +2

Their product is great, just wished I didn't feel like a tradie everytime I buy a pie… They would go gang busters if they had a better store and eating environment (similar to how burger places are now.).

      • Sit on the picnic tables outside on the grass. Beautiful.. apart from the motorway noise.

    • Thanks for the tip. Do not know this one but will give it a try.

      • Try their jack Daniels pie

        • Cheers!

  • Freddos pies!

cant beat a camel or emu pie :s

  • +1

Magpies are pretty good…unless ur being attacked by one!

  • +1

YAKala are great if you love minimal meat, maximum gravy content. I still can't believe the patronage of this place when there are so many better alternatives…Piefection as mentioned for one.

  • +1

I do enjoy a Beefy's pie up here on the Sunshine Coast too - much better filling than Yatala!

    • +1

Totally agree! Always make a point of stopping by on the way to Bribie

Last time I went in I was waiting in the queue and the girl behind the counter was scraping around the glass display that the chips are in, collecting all the scraps. I was expecting her to throw them in the bin and load up the fresh ones. No. She tipped them onto a pie and served it to a customer in front of me.
I walked out and never went back.
