  • Bought a Oppo R7. Thanks OP!

  • how come i cant click and collect in brisbane

    • None left in store

  • +1

would you say the p8 is an upgrade or side step for the s5?
also anyone tried hn or jb for a price match due to no store collect in most states?

  • +1

Great price, I'd go for p8 if I needed to upgrade, I love huawei

  • McCaurthur Square has 1 P8 left. (missing the plastic shrink wrap around the box)

    • North Lakes had 4 left. All have plastic shrink wrap.

  • I need a P8 must resist…….

A reason for not going with these modified androids:

As is customary for Chinese Android UIs, there is no app drawer like there would be on vanilla Android.

Anything you install pops up on the homescreen, just as it would on an iPhone or a Xiaomi. While this means that you don't have to bother creating shortcuts to your apps on the homescreens, it also means that you cannot effectively hide any of your installed apps either. You can, however, group them into folders.

Do you know about different launchers like nova, smart etc from play store ?

    • -1

Either find another launcher or flash another rom…so simple.

      • +1

Not many rom on xda atm.

        • Haha sorry, I don't really follow other phones except my own so I didn't know :P

  • How does the P8 compare to the xiaomi note 3?

    • P8 is a sub-flag (only lower than mate) vs Hongmi Note 3 a budget phone.

  • P8 doesn't show up anywhere for c&c. Got one in store at Chatswood chase DS though.

  • bought 2, good timing for my nz trips to claim gst

  • why is that i buy something and it gets cheaper in next few days.. :(

  • which one would have a better camera? r7 or p8

    • -2

      i like q6 or r8

    • +1

      P8 has better camera

  • +3

I think the P8 is now out of stock.

    • Back in stock online, deal is in store too if you don't want to pay delivery

      • Cant find any stocks in Sydney cbd bondi Hurstville Ashfield areas.

        • You will have to get it delivered but if you want it get it now cause it keeps going in and out of stock online

        • @TRENT86:

Why is it keep going in and out of stock.

        • @fatice: They are playing games, I put in stock IN STORE so they put it online, I take it away so they say out of stock, that's what it seems like so I'm leaving it IN STORE ONLY

        • @TRENT86: Who are they playing game with ? (They are playing with you ? why ? You are bringing business to them)

        • @fatice:

          Because it's Dick Smith.

  • Had a play with the P8 at JB and decided to keep my G2. A few problems here for a supposedly flag ship like fugly UI, slow system performance, average camera, average battery life and my doubt for their future software updates.

    • P8 has one of the best camera - on par with LG G4.

      • Not according to Android Authority or GSM Arena. It is just a decent camera at best. No 4k either.

        No where near the G4

        • I think I just busted abel's P8 bubble :O.

        • @maxhu: Your personality needs a lot of work mate. Deflating strangers on this site is harsh, but consider the people directly involved with your life. They must find your negativity and attitude insufferable.

        • @abel: Why? I am not the one who randomly neg other people's comment without any constructive feedback. As a matter of fact I did not even neg arctan's comment even I disagreed with it.

Anyway, no point for me to argue with a rookie. I was just trying to warn people before their impulse buy.

        • -1

@maxhu: but i reckon my iphones heaps better than your lg anyway

        • @maxhu: I had a g2 once and i didn't like it much. I couldn't get the bloody thing to take a good photo. When clearing some poor results one day I hit delete and the whole phone just vanished. I guess that's just the way the cookie crumbles.

        • +3

          @abel:

When clearing some poor results one day I hit delete and the whole phone just vanished.

That's some serious magic right there.

      • +1

I don't think so. The only Huawei phone gets a better or on par camera with G4 is the NEXUS 6P

    • For a $350 phone I think it has great performance and camera. Probably good that you didn't buy the P8 as it is only slightly better then the G2 IMO.

  • I was waiting for LG G4 and then I saw this post…

    Can't resist the P8 for $350

    Thanks Op

    • How does P8 compare with LG G4? LG G4 is a very highly rated phone on various websites. How about P8? Anywhere even close?

      • +1

LG G4 has better camera, better screen resolution, better CPU, better System(maybe), but it is at least $200 dollars more expensive at the moment.

The lowest price on gray import LG G4 was around $45x and it was a long time ago.

        If you can wait
and if you don't care about local warranty
and if you would like to pay a little more.

LG G4 is a better choice.

For me, I always use third party launcher so the system does not matter to me. Also I used Huawei Mate 7 before, The quality of the phone was very impressive. Hence, $350 P8 with local warranty is irresistible for me.

        • Thanks. Off the topic, but what do you mean by 3rd party launchers and how can one use them?

        • @virhlpool:
You can download it from Google Play Store.

I use Nova Launcher and Smart Launcher mainly.

You can check out some reviews on YouTube and maybe you will find the most suitable one for yourself.

  • is this phone a good upgrade from a LG G2 or should I wait for something else?

    • ofcourse @@

      • +2

LG G2 has 60fps video recording and scores higher in Antutu benchmark….

        G2 is over 2 years old…..

hmmm I don't want to 'side-step' If i upgrade my phone it has to be a jump; forward.

might keep the G2… wait for the G4,G5 or nexus 6p to drop in price

    • That really depends. You can read my comment above. I decided to keep my G2.

  • Anyone wanna help out with where I can get a good case for the P8? I drop my phones often so I do need one.

Leaving overseas tomorrow evening, so prefer to pick one up asap. Cheers

    • Don't think they stock any cases..

Seems online is the go or some of those little mobile repair places tend to have cheap ebay cases available.

  • P8 seems to be ~$270 on ebay. Is the price only good because it is not grey market or is this a higher spec model??

    • +1

Are you sure thats not the P8 LITE

      • Yeah sorry my bad was looking at the p8lite. Thanks for the heads up. Great price for local stock!

  • +1

Did anyone get jbhifi to price match successfully?

  • Would the p8 be a worthwhile upgrade to a 4gx HTC m8? I'm mostly after good camera and light weight.

    • +1

It looks like it has the same specs as the M8. I had an M8 and upgraded to a LG G4.

      • I was mainly impressed by the better camera, with image stabilisation, the lighter weight as well. The M8 is the largest phone I am comfortable with, so I am guessing the G4 with a 5.5" screen would be too bulky for my preference.
So 5.2 screen or less, camera with OIS, weight under 145g or so and ideally LTE B28 support would be ideal for me.
4G will still work on this one, but I would miss out on the performance and additional coverage 4GX offers.
I am on the fence so will probably let this deal pass.

        • +1

The m8 and G4 are very similar sizewise, because those huge bezels and front facing speakers on m8. The G4 is thicker and slightly wider, though it doesn't feel thicker to hold. If the m8 camera was better I'd prefer the m8, but unfortunately HTC couldnt get it right and now I have a G4. Which really is an awesome phone in every way. Since the last update my battery life is quite reasonable too, but still not as good as the m8. :(

        • @Ronnnie:

P8 Vs G4 views? At what price points both are comparable?

    • +2

You'd be downgrading your coverage wouldn't you?
P8 L00 model (which is the one being sold here) doesn't have Band 28

      • Yes I think it may be the dealbreaker for me. I just signed on with Telstra with their recent promo for 12 months so I will need something that is good on it.

  • Thanks.. Look at both the R7 and P8..

Both have there cons and advantages but ended up going with a P8.

    =)

  • Nabbed one too! Just got a note 5 but that that price i couldnt say no! Great little travel device with a good camera and dual sim option

    • +2

lol so what are you gonna use it for if you have a note 5, surely by the time you find use for a second phone teher will be better phones available at that price.
im trying to justify the purchase but i already have a s6, idk how i would use both but also dont want to miss out on a great deal

      • Anyone want to buy a note 5?

        • LOL is the p8 that good?

        • @striker5950: I'll be $500 in profit!

        • +1

          @cureforanitch:
          1. Buy expensive phone
          2. Buy cheaper phone
          3. Sell expensive phone
          ?????
          4. Profit!

        • @poop: 1. Sign up for $100 optus plan and get the most expensive phone as an option for free.
          2. Buy decent enough phone to use as daily driver
          3. Sell expensive phone

        • +2

@cureforanitch: but then you still have to pay 100 a month. Would be economical if you need that plan but I doubt I/many would. E.g. check out the Optus 40 plan. 10gb per month and unlimited calls. But thanks for explaining I was confused for a minute haha!
Now if only I didn't miss out on the p8 :(.

        • +3

@cureforanitch: Yeah, there's no such thing as a 'free' phone on a plan. You are renting it. It looks like $60/month for 24 months? That's $1440 phone.

    CRAPPP SERVICE

Placed my order this morning for Click & Collect, paid with Dicksmith GC bought few days ago with 10% Extra

Got a call from store say WE DON'T HAVE STOCK AGAINNNNNNN

Asked me to contact customer service for refund, WASTED AN HOUR for waiting over the phone, and I asked to change pickup in another store or change to delivery… but staff said NO! They will refund me the giftcard to my address in 1-3 WEEKS (maybe holiday delay), and asked me to place another order online myself

But I've only got $91 GC left ($440-$349) and need to pay the rest by CASH :(

    • whats that today with this deal??? go away

      • -1

It's Negative with their POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE and WRONG STOCK AVAILABILITY.

Even you place order online, there are highly chances get cancel

Also, they now got my money and asked me to pay again?? and keep the money from my another order for 2 weeks??

        • you should complaint on their facebook not here

  • Regarding the P8, is the screen protector designed to stay on the phone from factory or is this one that is required to be replaced/removed?

    • +1

It comes fitted with a factory sp. whether you remove it is up to you but it's basically the kind you would buy for $10 anyways.

      • Great. Most phones just come with a plastic sheet that is designed to be removed straight away — only for keeping it looking nice.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Picked up a R7. They only had gold left (Perth CBD) but that's ok it's for the wife!

  • Thanks OP - picked up the R7 for my mum.

  • just managed to place an online order for P8. Let's see…

  • Thanks OP. Went with the R7 as that is all they had in stock. Should be a lot better then my old S3. :)

  • Got a P8 from Midland Gate

Guy was saying that they have more on order (heard that before though) and price is valid until the end of the year

    Great phone for $350

  • How does the P8 compare against the new Asus Zenfone 2?

  • +2

Price match at Harvey Norman pay with Amex for a further $30/$50 off

    • I tried the price guaranty as I bought it for $498 last Saturday in O'Corner WA. They said Dick Smith is under liquidation, the policy does not apply to this situation. They just know it is liquidation as it is sales everywhere.

They do not price match any online store, it need to be break and mortar in WA, for the break the mortar dick smith, they said it is liquidation. Next time, if JB is dropping the price, they might say the sales guys are not as handsome as they are. That is all comes down to: I have paid them already.

      • Ask to speak to the franchisee. Get them to provide evidence the company is in liquidation if you get pushback. Thats just ridiculous. Plenty of get out clauses in the price match policy but that one just isn't applicable…yet

        • I did ask them for proof. They said it is all over the media. They said dropping $200 from $549 is an obvious proof. By this time, Dick smith is already out of stock. That is what Harvey Norman is counting on.

But there is still time as I bought it last Saturday. If Dick smith is back in stock, I can ask Harvey Norman again as it is just 5 minutes away.

        • @fatice: Let us know how you go. They should honour their policy. Both DS and HN can be a headache to deal with.

        • @unity1:
Dick smith is out of stock atm, I cannot match anything.

        • @fatice: Just keep an eye out on the DS website. Once they are showing stock it will be time to visit HN again.

  • P8 is out of stock. Is it expected to be back in stock?

  • +1

P8 is Out of Stock for both delivery and C&C.

    • Yeah out of stock online but there will be select stores with stock and they are also ordering in more so def ring you're local if you want one :)

  • Is it not possible to use Wish Cards online now at DS?
