Apple TV4 32GB for $229 + Free Delivery (Save $40) @ Kogan

230

1st post - Good price for lastest Apple TV 32Gb 4th Gen, looks like they have restocked from looking at previous posts + further discount.
I know they are grey imports but ok with me. Will be good to use Plex without the trailer workaround needed for the previous model.

    Kogan is dodgy as hell.
    no deal here

    • +1

      Totally agree.

After another OzBargainer pointed out the price increases on tools in another post, has put me right off.

      • +1

Any further discount or code anyone?

While any discount on the current Apple TV is great, I kinda feel like the bulk of the saving is simply circumvention of GST. If I'm going to go grey market AND deal with plug adapters AND have questions around the warranty AND screw the government AND wonder if the plug adapter is actually insulated and legal AND deal with Kogan which from the above I am being advised not to, THEN I want to save a bit more than this.

    Totally agreed

I've never had issues with Kogan, have bought a few things from them ¯_(ツ)_/¯.

  • Still a bit expensive. I might wait for my Apple TV v3 to die by then this will probably be around the $120 mark.

    • I upgraded from an ATV2 to this one, simply because the resell value of the ATV2 is so high (XBMC). However, could have gone for a ATV3 instead… Was really excited about its potential but is doesn't do anything new for me. Haven't found any useful apps, the remote is pretty awful (the opposite from intuitive), bluetooth audio is delayed (not in sync with video) and Airplay worked better on my ATV2.

      • +1

the reason I purchased this was to have a smooth experience with Plex and Netflix, both available without jailbreaking, 'trailer' hijacking etc, the DNS setting on the apple tv can stay where it is and I can use both my favourite apps without worrying about workarounds. Time to sell both the ATV2 and 3 to help pay for this.

        • ATV3 runs those apps, what you talking about?

I am dumping Apple as Kodi (XBMC) doesn't support ATV2 anymore and ATV3 / ATV4 cannot run it. Kodi > everything.

        • @robbiejuve: Awsome how did you get a supported Plex app on ATV3?

        • @Elijha: he is talking about PlexConnect - the current workaround on Atv3, It does work OK although initially requires setup knowledge ie certificates, running commands in Terminal etc

There are so many negative comments about Kogan all over the forums.

Warranty issues, Pricing issues, delivery issues, Grey imports…

Don't forget it took me 5 months, three court session and money to force them to honour a 12 month warranty

There are tons of honest reputable retailer and online retailers out there. Listen to the forums Kogan are dodgy.

  • I thought Apple warranty is worldwide and so it doesn't really matter if its a grey import. Am I mistaken?

    • Under Australian Consumer Law you won't be covered. Apple website says to go through the Seller and not apple.
Under the One_year Warranty period. You are covered.
Under the Apple Care Protection. You are covered.

      http://www.apple.com/au/legal/statutory-warranty/

However, note point 3 Apple may restrict service to the country where Apple or its authorised distributors originally sold the Apple product.

      • mmm… not sure if that's correct. I think that column and also the word 'seller' its simply there to show what Australian consumer law says regarding one's generic consumer rights. The following columns apply to how Apple enacts it.

Found this under the Apple TV warranty page. (http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/products/accessory-warra…)
In the second paragraph it says, "Under this warranty, you will be able to direct your claims to Apple even in situations where you purchased the Apple Product from a third party"

So I think you do get warranty and service from Apple even if you buy from Kogan.

        • You need to make sure you have got warranty through Apple 100%. Kogan won't do a thing to help you. They will just try and flog you off to the manufacturer.

    • On certain items yes.
      MacBook yes
      iPhone no
      Apple TV no

  • If you got some of the Dick Smith gift cards from Coles last week (at 10% extra value), the Apple TV will come to around $244 click and collect. Personally, there's nothing in the new ATV that makes we want to upgrade from ATV3.

    • +1

Personally, there's nothing in the new ATV that makes we want to upgrade from ATV3.

It depends on how much time you spend browsing as opposed to actually viewing content. Navigating Netflix and Hulu on the ATV3 is dog-slow compared to newer devices.

Searching with voice recognition instead of trying to key it in with the ATV3 remote sounds really convenient.

But releasing an updated device at triple the cost of the one it's replacing means not that many people will upgrade.

  • Can this device do 4K?

    • According to this review. No 4K support.

      http://www.au.engadget.com/2015/11/06/apple-tv-review-2015/

But then you want would a very fast internet speed and a heck of a lot of data quota to stream 4K video or a lot of hard drive space.

    • +1

The hardware is capable of doing 4k but the support isn't enabled. I think its due to the fact little 4k content actually exists and Apple doesn't provide it so they figure why support other vendors products e.g. Netflix until they have content of their own

      • +1

It's also probably to cover their asses and avoid having to deal with people complaining about their Apple TV being laggy and/or eating up all their bandwidth when using it on inadequate connections. It's still a mass consumer product after all and apparently a lot of people just leave Netflix streaming on HD all day like it were the tele.

  • Would have been a good deal with the store credit yesterday but didn't have free shipping then.

  • Good price. Thanks

  • bought 1 thansk

  • would ow price match this?

    • Nope, OW will price match only if it got physical store with in the area you live.

      • +1

Just checked the OW website and looks like they are obligated to price match

        "What about online stores?
Identical products are price matched against online stores but as with any other kind of store, the item must be currently in stock. When price matching online stores we also take into account the added cost of delivery. If the identical product can be purchased and delivered via an online store for a total price lower than the one we are offering, we will beat that total price by 5%."

I just got off the phone to officeworks and they wont price match GREY IMPORTS. Unfortunately the Apple TV falls into this category. No price match :(

    • +1

Just got it priced matched and the 5% off in OW Kew VIC no problem. I said do you guys price match online stores to the guy behind the counter he said yes if it's Australian? I said does that include Kogan. He said yes. I walked out with a 64 Gig for $265.05. Worked for me.

      • +1

can you post receipt? I rang the hotline and he said he would check the website. When he came back he said no deal, because of the details within the warranty. Concluding to him that it was a grey import. You got very lucky. Good job :)

      • Yes a receipt would be great please.

  • unless you want to rent/buy movies through apple I don't see why you wouldn't have purchased the shield last week for around the same price, it's a more powerful unit that can do proper Netflix and kodi with hopefully HD audio pass-through coming in marshmallow.

    even cheaper with 10% off.
    Coupon: CHRISTMAS10

    • too late Kogan have now increased their price. grr
