Amazing! seems every panasonic set has a huge discount. I Was looking at the 65" $3,345 but was put off by the $6,199 rrp

Hmm, if you can manage to get appliances online to match that price they are also offering a $250 Kmart voucher. Not sure if they would honor that along with the price match though.
    http://www.appliancesonline.com.au/panasonic-th55cx800a-smar…

    • Agreed there,The cx700 for 2.5k seems like a decent price. Probably the lowest i have seen in recent months. Bring on boxing day

      • the cx700 was $1400 not long ago at JB hifi.

        • What..couldn't be for the 65" .. I must've been asleep to have missed the ozbargain deal that day.. I wonder how tv sales are this year given the price increases compared to prev year. Dollar value down or not.. I would hazard a guess sales are down and they still need to sell

        • @trippyfoo:
sorry, the OP post said 55inch so thought you were talking about that size.

        • @PVA: thats a relief.. Lol. Phew. Thought i missed out on a bargain. I wasnt too clear on my orig post.

    • Appliance Online wouldn't match when I chatted with them.

  • Reviews of the European equivalent seem like a mixed bag. Cloudy corners, judder, etc. YMMV.

The model in both your links refer to the USA model which is not the same as the model us Aussies and Europe have - refer to these:

9/10 here at the reputable AV Forums: https://www.avforums.com/review/panasonic-tx-50cx802b-cx802-…

Highly Recommend - from HD Test UK - http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/tx55cx802b-201506294129.htm

      • Thanks for the clarification msjb. Seems though the judder mentioned in the US reviews is also present on the European models as HD Test UK mentions-

"Nevertheless, compared with last year’s outgoing Viera AX802/ AX800, we couldn’t help but feel that some cutbacks have been made: omission of DisplayPort and a fourth HDMI input; presence of judder with 24Hz and 50Hz 3D material; and a blurrier [Intelligent Frame Creation] “Min” setting."

None the less it was still Highly Recommended.

      • Hi msjb,

Just a question. From the 2 reviews you mentioned, the UK model seems to be using a full-array backlighting system which is a huge step up from the US model. (is that an uncommon thing?)

But Videopro does clearly list TH55CX800A as what they are selling you. If it was actually the UK/ AU TX-55CX802B, wouldn't it say so? Maybe they are selling US stock and changing the power brick or something?

        • Model numbers can be different.
The product sold on Videopro is 100% official Aussie stock with their 12 month Panasonic warranty.

        • @msjb:

I gave them a call, our model is the US model, not the UK one in this case. UK model is a huge step up, closer to the CX9 model that's coming up.

so much for the price guarantee then from AO

is panasonic have a sale or something maybe
    same pricing here

    http://www.todds.com.au/p/panasonic-th-55cx800a-55-hd-lcd-le…

    • Todds only have 1 left in stock.

  • While this is a good price for this model, is it worth the extra $500+ compared to the next lower model, the Panasonic TH-55CX700A?
The only difference I can see is the 1600Hz BMR vs 800Hz BMR (Background Motion Rate).
Was available at JB Hi-Fi for as low as $1,328 (20% sale + 5% Wacky Wednesday special) otherwise $1,398..
While it's still available at Bing Lee for $1,499. So easy to price match where able.

    • The next lower model is the Panasonic TH-55CX740A not the TH-55CX700A you're referring to…

      Model order: CX800, CX740 then the CX700

      http://www.panasonic.com/au/consumer/televisions-projectors/…

Harvey Norman have the CX740 55" model for $1795 http://www.harveynorman.com.au/tv-blu-ray-home-theatre/tvs/t…

      • Yep, my bad. I didn't have access to the CX740 to compare against. But again the only difference between the model is that the Panasonic TH-55CX740A is 1000Hz BMR.
I've only compared the CX800 and the CX700 side by side using a 4K clip loaded on a flash drive and I could not see any difference. The clip includes some high speed motion, high colour transitions and some night scenes to check blacks and local dimming performance. I also made sure both models had the same settings.

    • +1

CX800 has 10bit colour, 98% DCI colour space, HDR and local dimming pro. CX700 doesn't have any of these.

      • +2

Be careful with the 10bit colour and HDR availability - there's some discrepancy as to which models support this. The CX850 definitely does but the CX800 is available in different models depending whether it's a US or EU version.
HDR is definitely the next big thing in TVs but it is not yet a specified standard and a firmware update is needed for the CX800 (if and when it becomes available).
The CX700 has local dimming as well - try and see if Panasonic will explain what the "Pro" is and what difference it makes. Neither model has adaptive backlight dimming though.
The CX800 also has a "THX Certified Display" but even Panasonic states that the feature is to be determined.
The CX700 doesn't have a "4K Studio Master Processor" but both have a "4K Fine Remaster Engine" - you've got to love the techno spin. Again I could see no difference in the 4k upscaling between the CX800 & CX700 when I compared them.

Now the sound performance for the CX800 is really a lot better than the CX700. So as a stand alone device for sound reproduction the CX800 is way better. But if you use a sound bar or home theatre system this is negated.

Technically the CX800 does use twice as much power as the CX700 in both general use and in standby mode. But I've yet to see anyone accurately reproduce Panasonics' specs so I'd be cautious quoting Panasonic on this.

I was also hoping that the CX800 would have more HDMI ports but it doesn't add anything new there.

  • This or the LG OLED non 4K for nearly the same price?
    Great price for this model.

    • +1

      REALLY?
I'm waiting for OLED to become more mainstream price before jumping on the 4K bandwagon.

      • Yep, as in, the Non 4K OLED, has a really great black.
I just saw this model at Harvey Norman, and although good, VERY good. The overall picture quality on the OLED is far superior IMO even though it's not 4K. Furthermore there will be no serious amount of 4K content to make the most out of the 4K sets for a while. Bluray is barely the norm, we don't even have 4K players yet.

  • +10

I'm keeping my Panasonic plasmas until they die.

    • +1

I was thinking the same but mine definitely doesnt have blacks like these new tvs. I thought it was fine until I had a good look a few weeks back.
Its looking time to get a new one.

      • +2

Join the club mate; I have a Pana VT30 (from 2011) and decided it was time to upgrade to 4K…. But only when I encountered this true bargain.

    • I'm with you. I just forked out (read risked) $400 to fix a failed power supply in my 6.5yo Pana plasma. If it lasts until 4k OLED becomes mainstream, and therefore considerably cheaper, it'll be well worth it.

      • six and half years, that's not too good for a TV.

        • +2

lol are you serious? The way TVs are made these days something fails on them around the 3 or 4 year mark.

        • If not earlier! Had the panel in my samsung plasma replaced twice within 4 years. Know so many people who had issues with them and Sony's too. Pana Plasma in my bedroom still going strong!

        • It's a power supply - which can fail on anything after 1 year or 20 years. The screen is still perfect - hence my willingness to pay for the fix.

    • Agreed! Purchased a VT60 2 years ago. It is still nothing short of amazing. I can't game for more than 2 hours though if the game has a HUD :( I got a sensitive TV unfortunately. It's seen at least 500 hours of viewing now.

  • Not free shipping to all areas

Which areas are not free buddy…?

  • Not free shipping to Tasmania, adds $189 for shipping.

Yeah shipping international is never free though?

      • I see what you did there

    • +2

I am going to hold myself, around Boxing Day we should have some TV deals

      • That's a long time to hold yourself 😲

  • Anything over 2k and i'm back to the Projector+100"Screen+Speaker combo instead on my wish list.

  • good price

  • can someone explain how does it compare against the sony KD8500 series? KD55X8500C is listed at $2499 on jbhifi and was available for 1000$ a couple of months ago…doesnt the discounted price seem a bit too high?

  • Still running an 8 year old 50" Pana plasma. Good to see some Pana fans here.

    • Yup.same here. My folks still have the 42" pana plasma from 2005 which needed a separate tv tuner.

    • +1

      I still have a 50G10A still going
and it even picked up 90HD no problem

  • Is 4K worth it for a 55" panel? I'd want 65-70" to make the most of 4K

  • TH55CX800A is also available from Electronic Value for $1969.20 using the ebay Christmas10 promo code … 1 left, finishes tonight (Sunday)
