Canon 18-200mm EF-S Lens Kit $198 @ Dick Smith

270

Didn't find the 70D but came across this instead.
Image quality won't be outstanding but it's still a multi-purpose lens and could be the only one you need to carry. Selling in other stores for $550 and eBay for at least $450.
The one I bought is from Burwood store and it's the last one. You may try checking other stores.
Happy hunting!

Mods delete due to insuffient stock and DSE staff buying the last few.

    • Fair call but still like to know as may walk into a store where staff are following company line. It will be interesting to know if the companies so called comment about staff gouging is going to be followed up. Lol

    • 148 are in stock as of last Monday.

I would say they are gaaaaaaaaaaaawwwn!

And about 146 of those are now listed on Ebay.

    • Enough stock- both stores i've called so far have several left (Robina and Toombul)

      • None left at Robina, nor anywhere on the Gold Coast. The Move store at Pacific Fair still had a couple left this morning, same price. (the DSE staff were surprisingly helpful in putting me onto that).

  • How does this compare to the 18-135 STM other then the extra zoom

    • PQ of the 18-135 is a lot better, less distortion and its zoom lense dont drop/extend when you dangle it.

      • just bought the 18-135 STM - such a neat little lens - great all rounder in my opinion!

Unfortunately i paid full price for it, along with my 7D… no dick bargains for me!

        • Nice.. Yeah I tried out the 18-135 STM vs the older 18-200 IS and the 18-135 STM seemed better with autofocus..

  • Nothing at Northland :(

  • Asked DSE Marion to check stock. Darwin is one of the very few showing stock.

Called Robina a minute ago… They said they have 8 in stock (even checked physically)

      • Called just then, Broden came in and bought them all. Damn you BRODEN. I need lenses for my 70D

      Boo french is a reseller!

  • Do they sell Nikon equivalent? Would be great at this price

    • I'm also interest in a nikon lens

Anyone know if dse stocks them?

  • Thanks, will try to get one for my new 70d. Cant see anything on their website about lenses etc.. pretty disorganised.

  • went to perth store but fellow ozbargainer was already there and snagged the last 2

  • got one a last week great multipurpose lens

At toombul now. They still had 5. Just picked one up and someone called while I was at the register and put one aside. Then another in the phone now, so imagine 2 left now. Didn't look to be anymore in cabinet, but could be out back. Very happy, thank you op :)

Actually glad I had a medical appt for once

  • You'd also never know they had them as they were in a cabinet that had the red canon glass door under all the 'clearance banners' so unless you asked, you'd never know they were there

I got one of these when the sale started (and they had a ton of stock). They're decent for the price and come with a remote that's $30 odd by itself.

Peeps that buy multiples to sell on eBay suck. >:(

Well done. You get a gold star

  • Got the last one at parramatta

    • You got lucky mate. I called Parramatta and set one aside around 16:30, the last one. Turned up about an hour ago and they were like "oops, we sold it just earlier, maybe forgot to put your name on it"……

        try penrith dude!

        • +1

Nah, I'm not sure I can stomach dealing with DS again… It already took me an hour to drive to parramatta…
My main issue isn't that they were dumb, my issue is that two weeks ago I asked them specifically if they had this specific lens on clearance, and the "………" were like "no, it's only what's on display"… "Can you check the system please".. "No, we don't carry any lenses"…
Just one of numerous unpleasant experiences with DS..

      • +1

That's pretty annoying, I called in the morning and was told they had none in stock and had no other canon lens except the 18-55mm that came with the 1200D

        • +1

I share your pain.. As I mentioned above, I asked them about two weeks ago when they first started their clearance if they had this lens.. "No, we only stock cameras, no lenses"..
Apparently this lens has been on sale all along.. Makes me wonder if they knew what a lens is..

          @Xizo:
Interestingly I was in burwood a couple of weeks ago and asked about Canon camera and len. The staff member opened all the cabinets under the mobile phones and said they didn't have anything except the 1200D. I thought it was a bit odd to keep camera in under the mobile and not in under the displays of cameras.

The orignial poster weeks later find a 18-200mm lens in burwood. I really do wonder if the staff know what they are selling, it's no wonder dicksmith can't sell stock if they customers have to be lucky enough to find items themselves to buy them.

  • 1 left at Mitchell centre Darwin.
Did everyone else's come with a bonus remote?

    • Correct, it's a kit so the remote is included as a standard.

  • Got last one today in Maroochydore QLD. Staff had no idea they even had it in stock until they looked under a cabinet. They didn't even seem surprised it was only $198, my gain. What a sweet deal, thanks poporange630.

  • Just picked up one from the Penrith (Jamisontown) store. Guy serving me seemed surprised when he scanned it for me. They were kept out the back. After walking around the store I noticed 2 others were placed behind the counter……

Using the lens while I am suspended from cricket and I think it is brilliant. Love that I can capture the action and the zoom is really nice. I'm just getting into photography so I'm sure it's not perfect, but to me, it is awesome.

Cheers DS for the Camera and Lens

  • I think I should have a cannon camera at first.
