I will probably get flamed for this, however speaking from 10 years experience working in electrical retail, you can probably get better deals on days other than boxing day. Boxing day "sales" are mostly a sham.. It's like watching lambs lining up to be slaughtered…

      • From my experience its been pretty positive. Many many years ago i picked up a 40" sony for a damn good price on boxing day and raised many discussion points over at dtv.Two years ago i picked up a yamaha receiver that retails around $500 for $167 at HN. Last year there were some pretty great deals on the 70" sony. Everyone's mileage may vary of course.

        • Your experiences are in line with what I have observed over the years..

There is usually a select number of items that are actually on sale, maybe 1 or 2 TV's, 1 or 2 cameras, 1 or 2 laptops etc… These items are used to lure in customers under the guise of "everything is on sale".

What happens is the buyers for the business contact the suppliers and say "we need X amount of X category to roll out across stores, what can you give us". The supplier gives them a good discount as its a bulk buy and these items get rolled out and embargoed in stores until the night before when they are put on the shelves.

Everything else is normal price, or normal sale price that you can get any other time of the year.

In my experience, you are far more likely to pay more at this time of year. If there are 100's of people looking to buy things, a sales person is less likely to discount as there are a high number of heads to hit. Customers get caught up in the 'hype' and buy things on impulse because they feel like they're missing out and they wont get served for another 20 minutes as the store is so busy.

If you want to really get a good deal, you need to get in close to the end of the month in Feb/March as no one is buying as they've all over spent over Christmas, new years, back to school etc. The sales person will be looking to make their budget and will be more willing to negotiate down to do so, as will the managers.

Giving big discounts on boxing day is probably the stupidest thing a sales person could do.

    • its only $100 cheaper than other stores (saw it at todds hifi for 3400. you may find its pretty much the normal price now.

a little crooked on VideoPro side they were never selling at RRP so not 50% off. google cache says they were selling it for $3344 so really only $100 less.
Isnt that against Aust consumer law rules.

still good price for 65inch but not good if they are saying 50%off.

    • Thats why I've never bought anything from them. Would rather stick to a more reputable retailer.

  • I'm not sure if it is the same model but Harvey Norman have a Panasonic 65" UHD 3D capable TV with a ticket price of $2995.

  • Not the same model HN is TH65CX740A.

  • is the AX900 still the top of the line model? this model is one below this?

    • +1

cx is the new range and 800 is the top model, ax900 isnt listed except for the older ax950 85inch.

  • Is there much difference between this model and the CX700A?
