Telstra $30 Starter Kits for $5 at Harvey Norman (in-Store Only)

780

Hey guys, first time poster!

I realise some Woolworths stores are out of stock on the starter kits.

I checked out Harvey Norman and they seem to be doing the same deal so posting it here for you guys.

I managed to get a quick photo of the price on their system, should be nation wide!

Enjoy :)

Edit: It says Telstra prepaid SIM starter kit and its in pink, it works as phone or tablet, depending which plan you select! Says 5Gb on activation on the packet until 25/01/2015 as well :D

Edit: the SKU code should be 116846 (multi-purpose SIM) and 116980 (tablet SIM)

  • Same deal at Coles.

  • Do you work for HN ? If not you're game taking pics of their pos.

    • +12

Nope, just snapped a quick one when she was checking it on the system

  • I think this deal is for the tablet starter kits. Is there a difference?

  • +1

It's still $10 on the website.

    • Sorry, I have updated that its in store only

    • Well it does say online price is $10 in the attached pic

…and now they are every where.

If Telstra removes the Google Play payment option from these, there are going to be many unhappy people.

    • Is there talk of it being removed? Does it still work the same as before at the moment? Just activate it as a mobile broadband sim and select carrier billing in google play?

      • No talk of significance.

      • A survey was sent out asking customers what their reaction would be if it were removed.

    • as long as its not abused for a profit then it should be ok I reckon.

  • Just bought in store, it is still $10 but price matched for $5 manually

    • My one scanned up at $5, apparently the SKU code is 116846 and 116980

  • Anyone know is this can be converted into credit2me for google play ?

    • Yep, it can be used for google play, not converted as such

  • just bought one online no dramas cheers

    • For $10 or $5?

    • It's $10 online isn't it?

  • +1

Plenty of them in chadstone Vic. But sales limited 2 per customers.

    • Went to jbhifi next door and they refused to match price hn.

      • I've never had a JB price match on a starter kit. If find they're much more likely to price match on big ticket items (over $300).

    • second that, left at 9pm. reckon still about 20 behind the counter.

  • How many prepaid telsra accounts can I activate simultaneously? I currently have one but data is just about run out, can I register another one of these sims? Current SIM expiry 27/12.

    • You can

    • A lot, I've prob had 10 or more on the go since they take a while to expire even after youve used all the credit

      • Sweet. Thanks :)

      • +1

Went into a telstra shop and they brought up my account on a laptop. there was probably more than 10 numbers listed under my name. They must see this everytime I call customer support, too

    • There's no documented limit. It may be 30 as one person has said once before.

  • Hi, Anyone knows which plan should i choose for prepaid in order to get the google play credit?

Does all of telstra's prepaid plan include $30 play store credit?

    Thanks.

    • I've activated my last few as "Mobile Broadband" and got the $30 each time. Assuming you plan to use it in a WiFi modem like me, this will work fine. New Customer/Existing Customer doesn't seem to matter, I've been successful with each.

What I'm unsure of is the total data allowance, hence my question below. In the past it's always been 3GB but it may be higher at the moment.

  • Quick question:

Does one get the ~7.5GB or even anything over 3GB if activating as Mobile Broadband ?

I'm not interested in voice calls and don't really want to stuff around with credit transfers, just need a dumb data allowance for my mobile wifi modem. Cheers :)

    • i think only prepaid freedom plus can have 7.5gb data.

      • +1

Oh well, activated it for my daughter, 3GB or 7.5GB she is going to destroy it in record time anyway. The main thing is I get another $30 Google Play credit, 16c to the dollar. I'm happy with that.

  • Got the last one from Rothwell.

    Anyone tried price-matching at Officeworks?

    • +1

I think stock is often the issue there according to previous threads where this question was asked. YMMV though.

      • There was no stock at Officeworks, Richmond, VIC on Wednesday evening.

    • Yep price beat today at OW $4.75

      • 21 for the price of 20!

Brookside Shopping center: Woolworth's out, Coles didn't bother serving me so I left for HN at Everton Park… they still have a rack full of them. I only got 2… good luck… its marked down to $10 but scanned at $5.

  • +1

how exactly do these convert to google play credits?

  • +2

I want to know that too

  • Coles also have $30 Nano starter packs at $5/

    • We know. They started it all this week.

  • Got one at Hornsby Woolworths.

  • +2

thanks OP, perfect timing for my holidays. Got one from HN Taren Point NSW. shows $10 scans $5.

  • Officeworks, Nunawading, VIC now out of stock. They only had the one kit for tablets, fortunately they still price beat.

  • Thanks OP,
Bought 2, The sales clerk didn't know if they were for $5 he wanted to charge me 10, ha ha THanks for the screen grab OP, Told him to humor me and scan it anyway…

Also just picked up a Logitech Bluetooth Speaker X50 for 24 $
Thought it was a good deal , if anyone's looking for speakers grab that as well while you're there in store.

  • Hello,
Can anyone confirm that the full $30 credit will work for LoLs RP by mobile purchase?
Better than cash in a card as presents since my 2 nephews are addicted to that game.
    Thanks OP

    • I don't play LoLs but I assume whatever in-game currency is used in this game is purchased via Google Play. If this is the case, then you can use the $30 credit in the game. Just make sure you have the SIM in the device your purchasing on and you wait 3 days after activation, otherwise you will get the "User not found" error.

    • +1

To buy RP you do it through the LoL client. Prices for RP here. Would be best to do $12 + $12 + $5 unless i'm mistaken.

      • Yep, 12+12+5 is best at 1630RP, thanks. Paying through Telstra SIM worked just fine. Works out they get about $15 worth of RP from the $5. Bargain!

  • +3

Hi all, Just wanted to say it is $5 online as well now. However, there is a limit of 1 per customer. Better luck at Woolies or Coles I think. I bought 3 from my local Coles and 3 from Woolies next door.

    • Thx for heads up.

  • Stock levels may be inaccurate to what online shows. Went to liverpool HN yesterday, nothing on shelves and the guy checked the computer saying no stock left.

  • 116846 Sold out. So I bought a tablet kit 116980. Activated on Freedom plus mobile ok.

    • Yeah the SIMS are the same, just the packaging that is different.
