There is a big difference between RRP & actual selling price. Appears they have been selling at $200 for a while on eBay and reviews are mixed. Probably not worth the risk.

Don't be discouraged though. Keep looking around for bargains and posting.

    • I agree.. I didn't meean to discourage the 1st time poster.. We're just a very tough crowd at ozb..

Thanks for the support. I just know how shell shocked I ended up when I got the courage to put up my first post and it got savaged. You learn after a while to sift the helpful comments from the snarky ones.

  • RRP $949 is utter BS. As above, the normal price is around $200.

I'd like to know if there is there any regulation/law in Australia discouraging a company from displaying an inflated RRP?

Or can anyone advertise anything heavily discounted from an artificial price that it was never recently sold for?

      • +2

By law, you're not allowed to, but the regulators are toothless tigers who rarely do anything. The petrol prices are another fine example - and there's a special committee just for petrol and we still get gouged.

          It's here:
          https://www.accc.gov.au/business/pricing/displaying-prices

Petrol isn't a direct black and white comparison - being a commodity that fluctuates daily. Petrol isn't advertised as $1.25 per litre discounted from $8.75 per litre though.

@tommyc: yeah this reminds me of those scammers who go around targeting old people with 1000 dollar vacuums..

        • @ubcool: The old Kirby Vacuum Cleaners were actually about that price.
But they WERE build with lots of metal and an industrial quality motor that could suck dust mites out of mattresses.
But they also would shed wool carpet, etc., such was the power.

  • i9 for 209 bucks on kogan…

  • So much inflated original price, anyway!

This looks like its made by the same OEM manufacturer as the Aldi robot vacs which sell for $199 about every 3 months. I got one from Aldi and have been reasonably happy with it. Much better deal to buy from Aldi with their 2 months free returns policy.

    • +1

Plus 3 year warranty which practically guarantees a free robot vac for life, as the batteries will never last that long!!

      • But you don't necessarily get 3 more years for the replacement. Still 3 years is long enough

Look like a $99 vacuum, very old technology

    • Yep, Kogan sold these for $79 in January 2014

      • Yep, I said so because I had a 6 years old robot vacuum looks better than this, only cost $150.

    • Also goes against stated policy/marketing idea that eBay Group Deal Products * always * represent some kind of exceptional price/deal/offer on a product of exceptional quality/warranty/functionality.
I say always as an exaggeration, but in-terms of price, eBay Australia is supposed to be very sure you can't get a better deal any-where else in Australia.

  • Looks exactly like the $199 Aldi one I bought last week.

    • How are you going with it?

      • If you mean the Aldi one, so far so good. At first I thought these things remember the room measurements as they go around it. But not really as they just used a random, spot or wall to wall modes which is fine still. Also it doesn't easily find the base to return to as it has to be in line of sight. I will use for a few more weeks before I make a decision if my wife lets me return it :)

        • I had one like this, it would not turn unless hit something, I use a LG now, much smarter than those 10 years tech.

  • Some overseas reviews to see what they reckon is good, (I am not subscribed to Choice currently).
Also a bit of an eye on the future…all from December this year…

** Always remember that these robo-vacs don't replace vacuuming, they just reduce the task to say, once a month in a family size place.
** Also keeps place clean, but not perfect.

  • I have been using the pursonic i7 for over a year. On tiles only, forget carpet. You have to clean it out after first use if the floor isn't too clean, then it is right for a few days between cleaning if it runs every day.
It keeps dust and hair down, doesn't replace the Dyson. Good for busy life though.

The problem I have is that I am having trouble tracking down parts (rubber and metal bushes the brushes sit in). And I suspect the battery is dying. I wonder if the iRoomba ones use the same parts?
