Half Price Cat Adoptions ($47.50 for Adults & $85 for Kittens) @ Lost Dogs Home [Melbourne]

210

Bring a furry friend into your life! The Lost Dogs Home is having a special from now until the 3rd of Jan on cat and kitten adoptions. The cats and kittens all come health vaccinated, desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and wormed. I adopted my cat from the Home a few years ago and would definitely recommend them. They also had available very good value cat 'starter packs' when I adopted my cat, which had everything needed to look after the animal for the first few days.

Remember a pet is for life. Not just for Christmas.

Thats right, on boxing day there should be plenty of leftovers.
      What? You're not Korean?

      • Too soon. It's not boxing day yet

  • So only $47.50 to adopt an adult? Can I have one who is good at gardening and general home maintenance, or do I pay more for skill sets? :P

    • I'm 99% sure what they meant was adult cats, not adult humans, but YMMV.

      • Joke mate, joke…

        • I'm 99% sure he knew it was a joke, but YMMMMMMMV.

        • +1

@Putnum: haha thanks, today I learned what YMMV actually meant in the context of forum speak…

Not sure where the deal is. They should be a bit more realistic about prices. There thousands of kittens offered for free and they ask for around $90.-

Should lower the prices to find people which want the animals, better than put it to sleep after a while.

    • +4

The deal is for those who choose to support the organisation by paying something towards the costs of the veterinary examination, desexing, [Available in S.A. at a cheap rate through C.A.T.S, Female cat: $86 Male cat: $61 - strays and ferals, not purebreeds] for microchipping, vaccination and worming. If you can gets these services free for your "free kittens", go for it. The sterilisation costs are unavoidable - unless you don't think that better than putting 4-12 kittens to sleep every few months or finding someone with a collection of hungry snakes who don't mind snotty blind kittens dying of feline infectious enteritis :-(

I can see where you are coming from, but these guys are probably taking a bath on this one in a desperate attempt to [a] NOT put animals down but also not contribute to a bigger problem down the line and [b] find a home for many adult cats who have lost their owners for various reasons, but rarely abandonment.

If you can't afford the $50 to buy a cat, you probably can't afford to care for it properly.

As terrys said the vet inspection, microchipping, desexing and worming is well worth it.

      • -2

You do know how to read? Where did i say that i can't afford the $50.-? I am not after a cat, not for free or for money.

        • -1

you're not after a cat…so you clicked into a thread with Cat in the title.

who's the one lacking reading skills again?

        • @tdw:

So you are after everything listed here that you click on? Seriously?

        • -1

@dosada: why not? i know someone in Melbourne that would be interested. that serious enough for you?

    • -2

I agree entirely. We visited the Stirling shelter/pound in Perth and were stunned to see that they were charging $460 to adopt their dogs. Seriously? And they had a price of $370 (from memory) for dogs that had been there longer than 2 weeks or something.

They're not helping these unwanted dogs by pricing them out of the reach of many people who wanted to help.

      • Like Powershopz said above, if you can't afford the initial cost of the dog, how are you going to provide for the dog in the long term? Or should things like vet care be free as well?

There's another reason dogs aren't given away free and that's to deter certain unsavoury types from getting shelter dogs for dog fighting.

          Absolute horsesh*t mate, you're blathering.

Also, nice that you couldn't even respond without a strawman; no body had said anything about "free".

        • @COR80: nobody said anything about free?

lol check your accusations mate: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/226323#comment-3310567

yeah, no more "horseshit" than what you're churning out.

glad morons like you are deterred from owning pets just by the price of adoption alone. these cats and dogs deserve better than to land in the hands of cheapskates. if you're gonna squabble over adoption fees, just wait till you see a vet fee lol.

          @tdw:

You're an idiot, and you keep demonstrating it. Keep flailing away at that keyboard, idiot.

        • @COR80: only if you say i can, sweetie ;) wish you all the best looking for free dogs on gumtree lol

        • @tdw:

Well that's where I'd look if I was looking, "lol".

What's it like being a little bossy boots, who wants dogs cooped up in filthy, tiny concrete cages till they are put down?

          Disgusting person you are.

        • -1

@COR80: back for more, are ya? yeah mate, i'm disgusting like an unwashed sock. i'm sure the City of Stirling Animal Care Facility would be most interested in your constructive and factual feedback: [email protected] (or is your tail permanently stuck between your legs? ;)

but fear not! if you sniff around long enough you'll find someone who runs a puppy mill and can get you the bargain basement dog you're looking for. say, tree fiddy? (diy microchipping and vaccinations)

        • -1

@tdw: blah blah blah. Thanks for including that supremely lame "tree fiddy" though, weirdo, it confirmed what I presumed; it's so cool you've discovered reddit and can copy things you see on there.

        • -1

@COR80: tree fiddy is south park, bro. i'm cool enough that i know reddit isn't the fountain of all knowledge ;)

          tips akubra

        • -1

@tdw: Yet you kept repeating the "free dogs are just used for dogfights!!!" canard.

On your bike, lil' bossy boots.

        • -1

@COR80: why would i need reddit when we've got champions like you on ozbargain lol

got a tandem bike so we can boss each other around?

        • @tdw: freak
