For those with Blu-Ray Double Layer Burners.

50GB would be ideal for archiving?

Ooops, sorry, originally misread as being 50 discs, not 3…
Changed title accordingly.

    50GB, only 3 discs.

  • Who uses CD/DVD/BluRay in this age ?

    • +3

Enough people to warrant them still being in production.

Believe it or not there are a few people around who still like read-only media. I personally still use BD-R for backups and freeing up HDD space (archiving).

      • and from a price/gb point of view its still better if you really want to write once vs a hdd

    • -8

same people who use tape to backup

      • Well tapes are still the most efficient storage medium for on-site backups in corporate environments. :)

Just a note here for those who need larger quantities, look for cake boxes on eBay from Japanese sellers. Also Verbatim has many MID codes (some of them Panasonic who produce the best BD-R media) http://club.myce.com/f33/bd-r-blank-media-manufacturer-hides…

  • Only 3 discs champ

Works out around $AU0.60 per disc.

    ~$10.00 per disc.

  • Damn, thought it was 50 discs :(

  • Reading fail

  • +3

OP got me all excited. Then I realized he was off by about 2,350Gb. :(

  • This deal from Amazon isn't that good.

    $6.90 each with free delivery x 3 = $20.70 delivered on eBay.

If I wanted my business data to not survive 10 or 15 years and have no available drive to read it on then anyway, this format is definitely what I'd choose.

    • Other than constantly replacing HDD's as they fail in a RAID storage system how else can you achieve 10 or 15 years?

discs are dead man, discs are dead…

    • Tell that to all the blu-ray movie discs on the market.

  • +2

    Well this is awkward

  • To the people saying that discs are dead what's the alternative?

    • Probably streaming porn sites.

    • 1TB life time cold storage for $39

  • I was shocked by this one "oh wow, ok yeah I forgot about those, oh man that price seems pr… wait that's not 150 discs, it's THREE discs"
    LOL

    Nope………….. I guess it's finished for them.

I still have 10 packs of 10 25 gig Mr Data blank bluray discs i bought from msy about 2 years ago lol.

    • Me too. That deal must have been the best in the world at the time.

  • what a rip, first of all, the difference in 4x and 6x isnt that much, 4x is the way to go unless your time is so precious you wanna spend the extra for the 2x speed increase. You are best burning blurays at a lower speed anyhow.

the appalling aussie dollar has driven these up, i remembered buying 100 discs for around $230 if i recall, now ive run out only to find they are now around $290, might have to bite the bullet but no way i would buy 3 for $31aud..

I still use DVD's and Blurays. In fact, I have given up on cloud storage in favour of it for archival backups, keeping them in a safe location.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M-DISC

I buy 100gb BDXL m-discs (you can find 128gb sometimes. Technically the technology can go to 200gb. 150gb discs are uncommon atm).
