Not sure people are going to "enjoy their night" with the network clogged due to even more HNY texts

According to GadgetGuy "After 10pm, Telstra will take the messages and load them into a system so they can all be sent out at midnight, making it easier for you to enjoy the night without fighting for bandwidth on the towers."

Most plans include free text so I didn't really see the value in it, but I guess it makes sense from a network load perspective and to schedule the messages to be on the dot so the other party thinks that you were thinking of them right at that moment.

Midnight text messages are not for me, but some people are going to do it regardless, so at least they would all come at once if they use this app, not at 12:05, 12:15, 12:30, 12:45, 2:00. Oh god. I think that I will just shut off my phone that night in case any of my contacts has this crazy idea to send texts.

I'll be asleep at midnights so it's great for me.

I'll be on OzBargain for NYE so I'll text for free here also! :D

    That was the app says…
    Couldn't verify your phone number
"Sorry, the code you entered appears to be incorrect. Please try again…"
The entered code is as per sms received, I'm with Amaysim, android…

      Did you "please try again"?

      • Tried 3 times, even deleted data in the application, haven't received another sms with a code…

  • Yes! No more drunk NYE texts from me!
    Thanks TA.

Easy fixed, just get drunk before scheduling the texts!

      • I love it!

        Thanks.

    • Yes one thing I have learned over the years is that some cannot drink and text……..and they drunk dial everyone in their phonebook on NYE, yeah-nah, lol

Not sure if it's the same but in past years the texts were sent out at midnight Sydney time. Qld recipients either thought wtf or that I'd had too much to drink 🎉🍻 Probably both

    • You can choose your time zone in the app for all messages.

Telstra now making it easier to spam the crap out of everyone in your address book on NYE.

It doesn't actually cost carriers for people to send out text messages so not that great of a deal

    • +1

It's about the convenience of preparing your NYE messages beforehand and having them send automatically at midnight, not about the cost of the messages.

    50 more texts… Yay!

Any tips on how to meet people to send this many messages between now and then?

    • +2

50 text to 50 friends, who has that many friends anyway?

  • This is the same app from last year.

i hate having free texts unlimited on my plan, what is this, 1999?

Thanks saved me loads on my $700 cap

  • How is scheduling ALL the messages to go at once going to help manage network load? They just get chucked into a queue at midnight. The messages to the people who are on the end of that queue are still going to be delayed.

  • May be a stupid question. But is there any app/way to schedule texts on the iphone throughout other parts of the year?

    • Is it not built in? It is on Samsung, so maybe check in the message screen options menu? No idea sorry just a thought.

Never sent the messages for me. Apparently last year it sent blank messages.
