One of the most watched television shows of the 1990s, "Seinfeld" is a true-to-life comedy series that follows the events of a group of friends. The group consists of Jerry Seinfeld, a stand-up comedian who questions every bizarre tidbit about life; George Costanza, a hard-luck member of the New York Yankees organization; Elaine Benes, a flashy woman and book editor who is not afraid to speak her mind; and Cosmo Kramer, an extremely eccentric, lanky goofball. Another very notable member of the show is Newman, a chubby mailman, friend of Kramer, and, almost always, nemesis of Jerry. Other sources of comedy appear in the form of the parents of both Jerry and George.

I bought this box set from BIG W Watergardens for $89 yesterday (no postage costs) so it pays to check your local BIG W store. Otherwise this is a good deals if you can't get it from BIG W.

    • OK, if you'd posted that as a deal then I would have saved $17! Is it all BigW stores?

      • +3

If ozbargains would let you post within 24hrs of joining I would have. I joined yesterday at 5pm so I still have 2.5hrs until I can post. Blame ozbargains, not me!

        • Haha thats hillarious. So they let you comment but not submit a deal. Oh well, if its all BigW stores, people should do that and save their postage!

  • Will the instore price be the same?

    • I know when I bought West Wing online that the instore price was much higher, so I doubt it, but worth checking I guess

  • nice deal. I wonder if they will ever release this on bluray.

I doubt it, and why would you want it? The NTSC US television standard was 575 lines, so having this at 1080p wouldn't add a lot.

      • They managed to dig out a widescreen version despite no such thing really existing at the time, so you never know :-p

  • The Seinfeld boxsets have been getting cheaper and cheaper for a long while now , and this original box set would be quite old stock by now and 4:3 transfers. Tempting price though.
There is a whole discussion on the Seinfeld HD transfers. Also good now that is in widescreen after some modifications. I am pretty sure it will end up on blu ray.

  • WOW! I looked it up on Zavvi.com to see if it was cheaper, but its like 107GBP

    • Cheapest I could get it last week was $150 anywhere.

Found one only for $89 instore at Nunawading so saved the $17 postage.

Same in JB Hi-fi in Perth

  • awesome deal. but yeah i'm hoping for the HD 16:9 version to be released soon, i've also read that this is in the works

Dont bet on it. HD maybe but 16:9 is impossible unless they crop, which you can already do on your DVD player/bluray player anyways….

This must be what i've seen on the 99 GO! channel, i was just never sure or able to compare what I was seeing, but it did seem like a true expansion on both sides of the 4:3 i'm used to watching

Here's a few comparison images I made a while back, with the 16:9 and 4:3 images overlaid. You'll notice you lose a decent chunk on the bottom, but gain a little on the sides. For a show intended to be shown in 4:3, the 16:9 version is surprisingly well-framed.

          • @gilbarc: damn that sucks. i see what you mean. i'm gonna check a 720p source and compare to a 4:3, i'll let ya know what i find too.

          • @gilbarc: Just wanted to say you are a legend for making these images. I was looking for something like this a while ago.

Also, As you can see the image is being pan and scanned up or down with the framing, I think there will be times when it wont work as well though. I'm going to stick with the 4:3 version me thinks.

            Cheers

  • Great deal on the best show of all time.

  • I saw Seinfeld for $89 at my local Big W store (qld).

Is this the version with the book as well? Definitely a good deal, but others, I may wait for a 16:9 version. I've enjoyed that on GO!, and maybe that will be enough to satisfy me for now as they seem to be playing it all the time, albeit not in any particular order. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

    • didn't get a book with mine. I guess the R4 boxset don't come with it.

  • Finally! I'm still getting over buying "collectors edition" off ebay and finding most of the DVDs were pirated :( Serves me right for being a cheapo

  • Great deal! I'm personally hoping for a sale on FRIENDS though =)

    • you can order friends from amazon.co.uk for about AU$90 depending on the exchange rate. With widescreen and exchange footages, I think it's the best version of friends DVD out there.

      • I got that set from amazon UK for around $73 delivered

        • Thanks guys! I'm going to order a set. Much appreciated

  • I went to JB and BIG W in Melbourne CBD and nothing, so I got it online anyway. Great deal still.

  • Ringwood eastland vic has it $89 in store

    • Ditto for the Prahan store, its safe to assume this is the instore price.

Doesn't come with the book though :(

  • world square sydney has it for $89….just picked up a copy.
