Sony 75 Inch KD75X8500C 4K Ultra HD LED Smart 3D Android TV $3600 -10% OFF instore Harvey Norman

560

Harvey Norman has 10% off all TVs in store right now, so you can pick this up for $400 cheaper than in Sony Nunawading. I just purchased mine for 3660 including delivery on Monday :)

Update: The QV guys tore off the 10% off all TVs because everyone was asking for this deal. Apparently Hoppers Crossing store allowed the price based on the invoice. I don't think QV will honour the deal anymore.

  • Typically you can negotiate more than 10% off a sticker price.

  • Which store did you buy from?

    • QV in CBD.

  • I could have sworn somebody posted this exact item at HN with the disclaimer that it wasn't as cheap as the Bing Lee eBay deal (this morning), I can't find it though… So I guess it's not a dupe?

  • Bought it from QV. Well they already had 10% off, and I got 20 bucks off delivery. I was happy to get the TV TBH.

  • The X8500C series has to be the most heavily discounted TV this Boxing Day.

Just do your research as some owners aren't impressed with them…

    • care to elaborate? As far as i know the X850C series is great value at these prices. and the panel is pretty good too, Keep in mind they have VA panels not IPS panels

      • I had a quick look around, there are some people mentioning a red line or a blue line across the screen which meant either a replacement or a refund. But seems to be a very small percentage. Also some firmware issues (slowing down, crashing) hopefully they get fixed:

        Here are some reviews:
        http://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/televisions/x8500c-series/…

        • the firmware issues i believe are possibly an android TV issue. hopefully they get fixed soon

        • My 55 got the blue line, had to replace it :(

        • @XeKToReX: was it an easy replacement? And did the blue line come up straight away or after how many days? how big was the blue line? Also was android responsive? Have you had any issues since? Sorry for the barrage of questions :)

        • @sd:

Easy replacement, except they had no stock for 1-2 weeks :(

Blue line showed up about 3-4 days after purchase

          It was about 1-2mm wide

Yep, TV was working perfectly otherwise

New set has been working without issue

          No problemo!

        Ask user JUZZ0

His comments were unpublished by overly vigorous Ozbargain moderators. His followup comments after his initial comments were removed:

I don't know why my comment was deleted/unpublished as I did not invite people to privately buy from me, as is I already put an ad in the forums prior to these sales so I don't know how I breached mod rules. I was not calling out for people to buy the TV I purchased… If anything I was putting people off buying the TV as it has noted backlight bleed issues and is a lower quality panel. In my opinion Samsung SUHD TVs and LG OLEDs (of course) vastly outperform the Sonys, even the flagship model. In terms of lag, PQ and other features. Most people I've met buying high end or large TVs don't care so much about audio because home theater surround sound is becoming widely accessible and much more affordable which vastly outperform built-in speakers (most of which can be beaten by a low-end generic 70W soundbar). On that note the audio is also not good in this entry level Sony UHD. I wish I read the online reviews before buying.

Also Dick Smith/David Jones have had the 55" model selling for under $1500 advertised for weeks now (nearly half the Sony store RRP of $2899). I don't understand how some people looking for a mid-size Sony UHD haven't come across it. It may not sound like it but I've been a Sony fanboy for over a decade. I have purchased five VAIOs, six Bravias and three Xperia phones over that time (and a few Sony-Ericssons). It saddens me to say they no longer have the premium in quality like they used to over what I used to think of as second tier brands (LG, Samsung). It's telling pricing for the 4ks (at least the smaller models) is converging with the RRP for the Full HDs. The panels they are using are barely better than Aldi and Dick himself. It's little wonder their market share is going as they are becoming greedy with their mark-up margins. Who is going to pay $4499 for a panel that cost less than and around a grand to manufacture? At that price point they need to invest in technologies beyond frame dimming basic LCD/LED with poor backlight uniformity, relative lag and washed out blacks. If they want to drop the quality out of the brand and become a cheap imitation of what once was that's fine but drop the price to reflect it, as is they are taking advantage of loyal past customers who take 'SONY' being synonymous with 'quality'.

I am not sure I agree with everything Juzz0 says - for mine Samsung have made superior televisions to Sony for at least 6 years. Nevertheless I read it with interest because I want a 75" UHD TV and was considering this Sony…

        • The big brands each have their own budget, mid-tier, and premium TVs. I owned the ALDI 55" 4k TV, was extremely dissatisfied with the picture, and later bought the Sony 75X8500C. I can tell you with certainty that the TVs are worlds apart.

JUZZ0 is making the mistake of comparing the mid-tier Sony 8500C TVs to top-tier Samsung SUHD TVs. The Samsung equivalent to the 8500C is the JU7000. In most reviews it is considered marginally better, but not always, depending on your needs. Over the past 6 months or so the 75" JU7000 has been around $1000 more expensive in-store. There are good reviews and comparisons here: http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/by-size/70-75-inch/best

I paid $5600 for mine, and was satisfied with the price at the time. I think $3600 is an absolute bargain. If the pricing trends continue as they did in 2014/2015, then this TV will never be so cheap again. And, it's a going to be another 8+ months before the 2016 Sony TVs appear, and then another 12 months before they are significantly discounted.

      • The original comment from JUZZ0

Dick Smith have been selling the 55" variant for the last three weeks under 1500. About the same time period I have been trying to sell my 65". Not much market demand on Gumtree for this (if you want to buy but have second thoughts) only under 2000 (brand new). Choose carefully as this model is not xtended range, hdr, only has frame Dimming does not do chroma has same lag of Sony kdl lcd TV's that came out six years ago, also has unconvincing 3D (from online reviews) and noted Backlight bleed issues (especially around the frame). All these issues found out afterwards.

How a mod could delete this comment for "private selling" when the guy is bagging the TV and encouraging people not to buy it is beyond me. Over-moderation creeping into this site…

I want a 75" UHD TV, and if I hadn't read these comments from JUZZ0 I would have bought this Sony. But the lag in particular is a massive turnoff for me so I'll pass and buy a Samsung when a good special comes for one of those…

I've got the 65" FHD and very happy with it

        • @driveahardbargain:

          Ok good to hear.

It is possible JUZZ0 got a lemon but the rest are OK.

        • @GreatWhiteHunter: maybe a firmware issue which was later updated? we need to know more from owners!

          @sd:
No probs with the telly. Netflix app is awesome. PIC qual awesome. Sound is OK, but that's from sitting 5m away and about to set up home theatre so doesn't matter

    $56xx in JB. Good deal.

    • im surprised that JB and good Guys havent dropped their prices. It looks like these prices are coming directly from Sony

  • Thanks SD .
Malaga harvey norman asking proof of purchase to honor the price. Do you mind share your invoice with us. Cheers

          @mazda3: lucky you

        • @sd: Any chance you could rehost this again? I'm gonna try and get this TV today and I figure this is my best shot.

      • +1

They are asking for a receipt as they don't want to price match, they want to make it as difficult as possible.

  • Just came back from HN Nunawading, didn't see any 10% off signage. could be store specific?

    • anyone able to confirm the 10% off, so far is hear-say?

      • I posted the invoice.

    • +1

what stopped you from asking the salesman?

  • Trying to talk myself out of buying one……and struggling.

    • +1

I talked myself out of the $4K and went in to HN to pickup the Hisense at $3K, but when it was 10% off, couldn't resist!

      • Huge dilemma between Sony 75" FHD , UHD and Hisense 75" UHD. When binglee had it for 3600, i pulled the trigger.

  • Who pays 3.6k for a TV ? o.O

    • +10

Someone who wants a 75 inch 4k TV at an amazing price?

      • Hey mate, realised that you have the TV. Are you happy with it after the firmware updates?

        • +1

It's better now…. Was a real worry early on with it.

    • My existing tv is about 6 years old so was time for a refresh and the 75 inch looks amazing plus the price is actually reasonable if it lasts for 4-5 years. I usually dont go over 2K for a TV but I have saved a fair bit by creating a steam machine this year rather than buying a XBOX1, so I took that into consideration and also how good the games will look in that :)

      • +1

Are you happy fir it to only last 4or 5 years. TV's should last for 10 for a decent brand.

        • Well TVs get outdated so fast, I doubt I will have it for 10 years. The lure of all the amazing tech to come will surely make me want to sell it and get probably a 200 inch or something by then :)

I am happy to put aside about 500-600 bux for the tv each year, so happy for it to last 4-5 years. I would want to sell it after that time for some cash.

        • lol, maybe 40 years ago when a TV was just a TV with 2 channels. Not these days.

        • @sd:
I understand. I am starting to look now but our TV is 10 years old ( Panasonic plasma),
Onlytech I see is uhd screens, the smart TV part I am not that interested in.
          But 4 years, no way.

        • @Robster33:
Not true at all, TVs still should and do last a long
time. ( unless you buy no names like hisense, palsonic, dse etc)

Yes bring back the old rotary dials to change the channels :-)

        • -2

@PVA: Guess you are still using a old Nokia 3210 too :) Its 2015 get with it.

      • So you would have saved about $200 max on a steam machine over an xbox one. So all those savings gets you a $4k tv? ;)

        • Not really, I just added a Graphics card on an existing i5, so the savings was about $300 on the machine, plus I would get on xbox live and then buy a lot of games, on pc I probably save about half the price so probably the savings is about $500 this year. I was thinking of getting a TV already so say If I was going to spend 1500 on it, that makes up for the 2K. Plus I will sell my existing for a few hundred I guess.

Lol although now that I am talking about it, I guess I just needed some weird reasoning to validate the purchase and play games on the big screen :)

        • You're creating seperate ledgers for things when there's really only 1 ledger ;)

  • Thanks op but Harvey Norman nunawading did not agree for the 10% off

    • +1

Even when you showed the receipt?

    • Weird… Maybe try the HN in QV tomorrow and get it delivered? Delivery is only 60 anyway and I am sure they will take it off! I am not sure if the 10% off is on tomorrow tho :( might be worth calling them now.

  • No didn't try the receipt; it wasn't added.

I'll give it a shot tommorow if it's valid. Can anyone confirm if other Harvey Norman stores are honoring this deal

    • If it's valid? You doubt it is?

      • sorry- I meant if the deal is still on tomorrow since its not boxing day.

    • Went to HN Broadmeadows and Highpoint, both wouldn't do 10% off.

  • called joondalup harvey norman, they don't have 10% discount, anyone bought the Sony 65 inch full hd TV with further 10% off? can you pls post receipt for price match? thanks

  • I bought the 65 8500c today. Got it home and it was a little glitchy, found a yellow note in the pack, updated the FW and 6hours later we cant fault it…beyond that its actually awesome!!! Very very good at playing low quality and the software is SUPER fast and easy to use. Very very happy with this at 2499 - is the 10% from thus afternoon only, i will claim price guarantee if it is.

    • If you have time, go through the full update process (my 55X8500C had 2 updates after the initial, check for updates in settings) and now runs very fluid.

  • +3

anyone tried the GOODGUYS 120% price difference guarantee on this model yet!?

    http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/30-day-price-guarantee

  • Bought it for $3600 including delivery
    Thanks

  • I got the Sony 55X850B exactly one year ago today during the boxing day sales. Yesterday, during Christmas morning the digital tuner in it decided to go die.
Depending how well sony support is at getting it fixed, I might be in the market to get a new one :| Wouldn't mind one of the newer models.

    • +1

Consumer law says you are entitled to a repair, 12 months warranty or no, that is some bad luck there and the law is on your side!

  • JB hifi Rockingham WA wouldn't price match this one. Store manager said it had to be an advertised price :-( oh well!

    • Jb doesn't actually have a proper price match policy. If you ask them, sure. But when you mention price it's at their discretion. Basically it seems they'll agree if it's in the price range they can go down to when just negotiating without trying to price match. I've been turned down multiple times.

  • +2

went to the HN @ QV around 8:30pm tonight, the sales said $3600 is a price error, won't do again at the same price. They received too many calls from different HN after that sale, and then they teared the 10% off sticker off. That's the whole story,

  • What do people think about the Sony 75" full hd at jb for $2596? Model kdl75w850c
Is the extra $900 worth it for uhd??

    • +3

Its not imo UHD is very over rated, furthermore nearly all content is in HD here is hardly much 4k stuff.

I would save the $900 for an OLED in the future.

  • The kdl75w850c has higher lag and not ideal for gaming or sports. I don't think the UHD resolution is worth the extra money but the lag is a deal breaker.

I bought this TV from the good guys last month for $4000 during the eBay 20% deal. Great tv. Andriod software is awesome but…. There seems to be a problem with the screen. Everytime there is a black screen i get clouding in the back ground (white patches that look like clouds throughout the whole screen) the good guys changed it over but the second one is doing the same thing. Is any one else having this problem? Or has anyone else read about this in their reviews?

    • +1

Seems like you are not alone.
read this re clouding fix in Sony.

  • Also bought this during the eBay sale from TGG.

About a month on, very happy with the choice.

Picture-wise, unless you are a real aficionado, it is fantastic & UHD
amazing watching Netflix. Especially coming from a 4 yo Panasonic plasma.

Also love the YouTube interface with the voice search.

Only gripe is the USB playback of movies. Very buggy, poor interface, and does not
    recognise a few HDD models.

  • I need this in my life lol
