Netgear AC1900 Nighthawk Smart WiFi Router R7000 $255.20 @ JB Hi-Fi

114

I don't know how much of a saving this is, but $255.20 seems like a good deal for a fully featured AC router.

JB currently have it on sale for $255.20 (WAS $319)

https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/networking/netge…

Harvey Norman have it on sale for $286 (WAS $368)

http://www.harveynorman.com.au/netgear-r7000-nighthawk-smart…

Centrecom have it on sale for $219 (WAS $259)

http://www.centrecom.com.au/netgear-ac1900-nighthawk-smart-w…

However, Centrecom is only accepting pre-order since they do not have it in stock.
I went to my closest JB and they only have the D7000 model in stock and 7 on order.
I asked JB to order it for $219, but they said they cannot price match an out of stock item.
So I decided to go to my closest Harvey Norman and got them to price match (Centrecom) with success.

As I said, I'm not sure how much of a bargain this is.
But $219 for a fully featured AC router with a 1GHz Dual Core processor and Cloud support seems like a good deal to me.

    Static Ice is your friend.

EDIT. nevermind i decided to google static ice because i had no idea what that meant. kudos for the site, its awesome

For the price you paid, you could've basically got the Nighthawk X6

    http://www.msy.com.au/network-device/14135-netgear-nighthawk…

    • Thanks for that.

I'll just return my R7000 and get the R8000 from MSY. XD

Silly me, I should've done more research.

r7000 has better review than r8000. research it on cnet.

        • +1

Yes, it seems the X6 R8000 was a big step downwards from the highly regarded R7000 despite the price jump: http://www.cnet.com/au/products/netgear-ac3200-nighthawk-x6-…

        • @irate: I've had the R8000 for a few months now, it hadn't skipped a beat. I don't understand the negative reviews and feedback. It's freaking great and I managed to get it for $195 when there was an eBay sale on.

        • +1

          @irate:

It's only reviewed like that because it's more expensive. Fast forward one year, with firmware updates and now the price being more of less the same, you'll probably find the Cnet review being mostly irrelevant.

Also don't listen to Cnet, such a bias website.

        • lol cnet.

        • @plmko: I paid $230 for my R8000 and my 2.4Ghz works without any issues on the latest firmware. The review of the "Bad" items looks like have been taken care off

  • Can someone help me with a modem/router upgrade suggestion?

I currently have a boblite and it sucks arse. I have a fairly large single storey house. I need better speed and range. Budget 150-200. I really know nothing about modems/routers, so I need a bit of a helping hand.

    Cheers

    • I believe that you are currently on ADSL. You can buy an integrated Modem/Router like the Tp-link Archer D9 or the ASUS DSL-AC68U

If you are going to get upgraded to NBN soon or planning to move to cable, buy a separate modem and a Router (such as Tp-link Archer C9, Asus RT-AC68U or the Netgear R7000)

      • cheers. Yep, on ADSL. Won't be on NBN any time soon. My suburb is shit.

    • This is i believe is currently the best

Ooops i just got excited… excuse me while i change my undies…

      • What would be a good modem to us with that seeing its a router only.

        • The D7000 is a variant of this router and has a built in modem for VDSL/ADSL.

However, the D7000 does not support READYCloud which allows you to access all files stored in the external drive connected to the USB port in the router/modem.

Wow, capable or not that is one UGLY beast.

Harvey Norman and JB are the last 2 places I'd ever buy PC Gear.

    • True, this is why I only buy from them for convenience sake AND IF they would price match.

  • +2

Lowest I've seen on this router was $169 in a recent Shopping Express sale. No where near a good price at $250+

    • OP already knows he made a mistake..no need for a neg..cut him a break.

      • The deal has gained 2 positive votes since I negged it and is sitting in the new deals. Is it not correct use of the neg if a deal is a bad price?

        • -2

Someone (else) negged you for correctly using your neg. That's OzBargain for you ;)

  • Good deals get more votes, I thought negs are for brash comments.

  • Bought this priced matched last Christmas from office works for 158

    • -1

Wow how did you get the price down to $158?
This is most probably an online only price?

I thought OW doesn't price match with online only stores.

      • I think he bought it while the Australian dollar was actually worth something.

      • Office works Subiaco Perth price matched wireless one. Was a boxing day special.

  • MSY has this for 207. Currently in stock.

    http://www.msy.com.au/network-device/12579-netgear-nighthawk…

CPL and centrecom are just as cheap but they are out of stock/on preorder.
