SanDisk Cruzer Facet 8GB USB Flash Drive $2.73 at Officeworks

2500

Full credit to TA and his original deal here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/227414

Went to pick up my order of 3 x $3.67 drives and it now appears the 8Gb drives have now dropped to $2.73 each. Hundreds in stock at the Jandakot WA store. Note: there are numerous displays with the same product and different prices (eg $6.82, $5.97) but they all scan at $2.73. Picture

They refunded the original order without any problems.

What's the bet they drop even further in price over the next couple of weeks????

Nice find ticket. Well done :)

  • +3

remember if they omit the USB version it's 2.0.

    • +3

To be fair the cheap USB 3.0 drives do not do anything over 2.0 speeds anyhow

      • Not in my experience. I bought a few of these, and a few of the USB 3.0's going for $2 at Woolies recently.

Windows tells me it's transferring files to the USB 3.0 at 30 MB/s.
I think these ones I get more like 5 MB/s.

I bought these ones for sharing text files between PCs and lending to people, but I'll never use USB 2.0 for large files again.

I think USB 2.0 flash drives are going to get very cheap, and size will be irrelevant. 1G would be more than you'd want to transfer at these speeds.

  • hrmm…i just purchased $10 at the previous price.

    • Ask for a refund….absolutely no issues when I returned mine! Took 30 secs.

    • +1

how could you spend $10 on a usb2 8G one? or you mean 10 of them

      • miss typed, purchased 10x units at the previous price.

  • +1

Remind me the speed of these things - 20mb/s write or am I kidding myself?

    • +1

yes you are kidding, under 1mb/s write if bunch of small files, most peoples don't know the bottleneck is the nand itself not the usb interface.

      • So what is the best performance for 24gb (3x8) under $15. I was curious about the dick 3 pack.

        • +8

I was curious about the dick 3 pack.

          Were you…?!

        • +4

I was curious about the dick 3 pack.

That would be the Triple Penetration (TP) pack.

  • +6

plenty at north sydney (NSW) store… priced $3.67 on rack and in the clearance area bins, but will scan at $2.73

    • +1

North Sydney still has plenty in stock - I just picked up 25 and the rack price is now correct at $2.73

  • +2

20MB/s Read and 5MB/s Write.. Good enough for school projects.

    • Too fast. Too big

      • +15

        that's what the ladies…
        I'll see myself out.

        • lol wp

5 years warranty on these from SanDisk.

  • can anyone confirm this for any of the melb cbd stores?

    • +1

      Hundreds in Bourke St store.

      • +1

        thanks buddy really appreciate it

  • A lot of complaints on Amazon about these not fitting usb ports well. Can anyone that has grabbed one can you please share your experience?

    • +1

They fit fine for me on my computers.

    • +2

I had one (until I left it in Tamworth the other day). They can be a little tight in some machines, but no real issues.

      • +1

There's an unwritten Ballad in there somewhere

      • Yeah, I have one, it's quite a tight fit in the Surface Book.

    • Thanks

    • Tight in my Apple USB Keyboard. Feels like it's doing damage. OK in iMac.

  • +1

FYI I bought a few of these a while ago and they're terrible. So slow.
I highly recommend against buying them unless you really need a USB stick and can't afford a decent one.

    • +5

I have a need forUSB sticks to lend out, that may or may not come back…

      • +1

        This will do you well!

      • You are describing what a cd/dvd/bluray is for…

If you don't have an optical drive in your computer I don't know you and I don't care to change for them.

    • They are terrible for backups and file transfers, however if you use them like a cd and put OS installation files on them they do ok as installation media.

  • +1

It's official now for $2.73. It's on their web site. Thanks OP.

  • +1
    • Oh no stock anywhere near me :(

    • +5

There are none of these in existence at any store in Australia anymore.

      • +1

So they should remove it from the website

        • So they should remove it from the website

Why? It says clearance and it says not in stock, what about people that want to check the warranty after they purchased recently? Should that pull down all the details of any item they are no longer selling the second they sell the last one? What happens if they get more stock or someone returns some?

      • One of the store staff believes that they will be getting more of them in January for back to school sales.

        • +1

There are none on order as far as I could see.

  • Got some from north ryde, nsw. Plenty in stock

  • Plenty in stock in Geelong, picked up 3 :)

  • +11

Almost every store has stock (many stores with a couple of thousand in stock!!), but there are some exceptions. The following stores have no stock:

    NSW
    PARRAMATTA
    PUNCHBOWL
    ARTARMON
    SOUTH STRATHFIELD

    QLD
    UPPER MT GRAVATT

    SA
    MARION

    VIC
    DANDENONG
    CLAYTON
    COLLINS ST
    HAWTHORN EAST
    TRARALGON

    WA
    OSBORNE PARK

    • Thanks for your effort but I think your intel is wrong :/ Just bought 2 of the many available at Upper Mount Gravatt (Garden City) -Unless UMG is a different store from Gardo, in which case my bad never mind!

      • +2

Ahh, well I'm just going off what our stock system says :-)

        • Yup. Hundreds at Punchbowl. Marked as $6 but scans at $2.73.

  • +2

Good price, but very poor customer reviews.

3 for $9 deal from HN is worth considering.

    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/sandisk-cruzer-edge-8gb-usb-f…

  • Checked OzB in-store and ended up buying two of these, plenty of stock (50+ easily on display) at Garden City, no $2 tubs or torches there though for the local hunters heh.

  • +1

Stock at Elizabeth St, they're on the counter.

  • Plenty of Stock at Castle Hill Store and SD Card 8GB 40MB/S as well…

There were Sandisk ULTRA 16 GB 80MB/S micro with adapter so bought few as well. But only 6 or 7 left on the shelve hook. It is great value at 80MB/S as most budget SLR cameras won't write or read more than 40MB/S. Don't buy from ebay or Aus Computer sites as they say up to 50% Sandisk cards around the shops are all Fake. Stores like JB, HN, Camera House obviously buy from Aus wholesaler so they are good. Sometimes like the current affair story, where Target store selling Fake MAC Cosmetic thinking the big reseller in USA is Genuine.

MSY selling Sandisk Extreme Pro 64GB 95MB/s for $69 where Geroge Camera House says their selling for $199 where their cost price is more than $100. So you be the judge. I am not saying MSY is selling fake, just some local and overseas wholesalers are knowingly selling quality fake stuff. Best to test the card with speed tester to see the write and read speed to see if they are close enough as mentioned on the box.

  • Plenty of stock (looked like at least 200) at Burleigh Heads store, Gold Coast QLD. Just bought 4.

  • Got a few of these!

    $2.73 indeed.

Thanks OP and TA for his original post.

  • For reference this is the model number: SDCZ55-008G-BQ35Z

Just be aware that according to Office Works advertising these USB drives are almost 30cm long: https://i.imgur.com/4fSIofC.jpg

  • Just bought 8 of them at Cockburn OfficeWorks WA, they have hundreds in stock. Great for lending out to friends… :)

    • -1

      LOL Cockburn.

    • +3

It's not all about you san_narula. I posted a deal that appears good value to the vast majority of OzBargain users.

I understand your frustration, but that doesn't make it a bad deal. If not a deal for you then ignore it - not sure it's a reason to apply a negative vote!

      • +2

Didn't mean to offend you. I was only trying to clarify that it's not for everyone. It's no doubt a great deal, I was going to buy 20x for work but found its not worth it.

    • +1

That's not a valid reason for a negative vote. The fact is that it is available in-store for the stated price. A deal does not have to be available for delivery or even available Australia-wide (as many deals are not) to be worthy of posting on OzB.

  • I picked up a 16GB USB2 "Dyna Store" branded USB stick from Officeworks for around $6 yesterday. When I plugged it in it said it was Toshiba.

    http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/dyna-store-…

    • Probably using Toshiba-branded flash memory chips

    • I thought this sounded interesting (16GB Dyna Store Flash Drives for ~$6) until I noticed the truly awful reviews on the officeworks website. After reading the user reviews, I don't think I'd bother with them even if they were free!

  • Just a heads up, there was about 20+ (in 2 different locations) at the Fern Tree Gully store (Vic), at around 5 today.
Grabbed a bunch for late Xmas gifts/friend family.

Also scored the last (I think) Seagate wireless & the $9 mSD card.

Thanks to all posters with these great deals.

    Happy New Year…

  • Got one from Milton, Brisbane store. They had bucket loads.

  • Picked some up on New Year's Day at this price and they still had loads left. What an awesome deal.

  • Thanks OP. Kids needed some for school this year so I grabbed some. Streets ahead of the school list 4GB for $7.

  • Big W today has 8 gig Lexar Twists (USB2) for $3, with a limit of 5.

  • Saw a bloke literally grabbing as many as he could carry out of a display bin. Said to him, "good one Broden". Obviously not an OzB member as he didn't understand the reference. This was Epping, Vic. Still a heap left and they had about half a pallet of those $12 Canon printers.

  • +1

    Get a 5 pk 8gb USB each = 40gb off office works it is $3 http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/imation-8gb…

  • Heaps at Capalaba (as of 2/1/16)

  • Heaps at Liverpool, NSW today.

  • Thanks OP bought one at Aspley plenty in stock

  • West Gosford Store has 200-300 at least and the guy said they have a box or two out the back still. I brought 50 today :) no dramas at all

  • This USB is very small but works great and is very reliable for transferring large files.

  • There's about 100 of these at Bondi Junction spread across various parts of the store… before I took 25…

  • I tried to order some from the OW website & immediately after I placed the order it was "rejected" & I received a paypal refund. I did not receive any email from OW just from paypal. I wont be wasting time with OW again - If they dont have stock take it off the website

  • I grabbed 4 of these from Oxley qld the other day.

Slow writes! But the price is right and they are a nice tough package. Good to throw on a keyring or have spare in the car etc.

  • Still heaps left at Nunawading, VIC. 25 limit per customer.

    • +1

      Only 25?!?!?

      (Signed) Broden.
