  • What exactly is an
    'International Model' iPhone?

    • Apple only make one or 2 models for the whole world they are often reffered to as "universal band phones" ….. so this phone has all the Australian 4G bands. This is great if you travel, or you need a phone repaired or replaced. They have a special model for some US carriers.

Unlike some other manufacturers that have several models and you need to get the right one for Australian bands e.g several models of the SamsungS5, you need the right one to cover all Australian frequencies.

wouldnt pay that for no aus warranty

  • So if the phone breaks after 2 months, what is the process?

    • quote from Kogan's T&C - " In the unlikely event that you require a warranty repair, we will collect your item, repair or replace it, then return it you at no charge. It is a requirement of warranty that you keep the original packaging for transportation."

All iPhones get 1 year of international warranty upon activation.
If you want two years of warranty, then you will have to buy Australian stock as the extra year is covered by the Australian Consumer Law.

    • For the first year, depends on whether apple wants to warranty your product or not. Most of the time they do, but they don't have to.

      • They don't if you have one of the special US models because they don't keep stock of the US model in Australia for repair or replace.

    • I've been googling for that in "Australian Consumer Law" but to no avail so far. Can you please provide a reliable source?

      • .. extra year is covered by the Australian Consumer Law

I don't believe an exact number is actually specified by consumer guarantees.

          Yep

        • Well the ACL states something along the lines of your consumer device should be repaired for free within acceptable time frame (acceptable can mean 1 year to X years depending on how you depict them). But from Apple website, Apple warranty states that the extra year is covered by the consumer law.
Don't ask me for sources lol. I went through the terms last year because I was dealing with iPhones quite often but I'm assuming they haven't changed over the past year.

        • @Zackyis: My understanding was that Apple warrants US/Canadian phones for 2 years but Australian phones only for 1 year. The ACCC made noises to them that this was blatantly unfair, and eventually Apple upped the Aussie warranty to 2 years. However, they still won't warrant foreign phones AT ALL (unless you kick and scream enough that they relent).

Given a standard Apple's price of $1229 minus 15%, the regular ebay price at the moment should be around $1044 for 64gb. True?

    • is it australian stock?

  • If you buy it from Apple e.g at an Apple shop (not dealer) or online ….. I went into the genius bar and they swapped it on the spot after checking for water damage, cracked screen and ran their dignostics (staff are trained). They don't do this if bought from retailer, it goes back for repair and you wait (mine was a battery issue).

It's not just a matter of Aust warranty, but the relationship that determines how quickly things are done. Now I buy all my Apple gear from their Southland store rather than DSE, HN, JB, etc.

Telstra used to keep Iphones and if within the warranty period and was purchased from them, they swapped to get you going again … it's why they cost more from Telstra.

It's not just warranty, it's also realtionships and after sales.

JB, HN, DSE …… they will send it back to apple and give you a call when it's returned. Their staff don't have the diagnostic tools to check what is wrong or water damage, etc.

    • Don't think this is right. I've had numerous phone replacements at the Apple store, and the phones were never originally purchased from the Apple store.

  • Slightly off topic, but trying to purchase something from the eBay app from Logan but it says 'Sorry, but this item uses a buying format or payment tYpe not supported by our app'

Anyone ever gotten this message before??

    • Yes, I had to switch to laptop to complete purchase (was using iPad app).

But I can't remember exactly the circumstances.

(I wouldn't buy from Logan though, either thru app or browser)

  • Ordered one, says the delivery will be happening on mid Jan, any experience on delivery time?

    • They might ship direct from asia

      • Ebay page says item located in Melbourne thought, no surprise if it ships from asia as long as it is in brand new condition. Local warranty should still be applied from 1 yr?

  • I've had iPhones for years. All except the current one have been overseas stock from HK (in fact one was from Kogan). I've had no problems with warranty and replacements from an Apple Store. In fact, I break mine all the time, go in, tell them I dropped it and I'm so sorry and if there's anything they can do for me. They've replaced it free of charge every single time.

Two years ago I also got my dad's three-year old iPhone 4s replaced free of charge. For this one I just recited the ACCC consumer guarantee back to front for them.
