I also use this, it DESTROYS ultramon. It's ridiculously powerful and the developers update it CONSTANTLY and take responses for feedback very seriously. Several features I've suggested or bugs I've found have been fixed in the forums.
If you've got multiple monitors, you really need this.

    • I agree. I used to use it at home but only really used to use a web browser and play games so didn't find it useful until i installed it on my work PC.

Really good productivity wise imo. Just being able to middle click applications from one monitor to another is so good. Plus the ability to have good multi monitor wallpapers switch every hour or so is great.

      Worth every cent imo

      • How many PCs can you install it on?

        • A single DisplayFusion Pro on Steam license can be used on multiple computers, as long as you are the primary user of those computers, and can run Steam on them.

        • @Clear: Sold :)

    • can it span multiple monitors of different size? nvidia cant do it unless its 3 monitors of the same size

      • As in Windows resolution? I don't think so, it's more about different tools making each monitor useful.

      • If you mean what I think you said then yes.
        I have it running perfectly with one 1680x1050, 1920x1080, and I think a 1024x1024.

        • So when you have it set to spanned mode your display resolution becomes 4624x1024 with black bars on top/bottom of the bigger screens? This is what I want to do as I have 2 1080p screen, one on each side of a 1440p screen but NVIDIA doesn't let you span them because of differing resolutions. Stops me from having an extreme widescreen in racing games for instance.

        • @Agret: no it doesn't do that. It makes the wallpaper fit correctly on each screen and adds a taskbar. It doesn't set them up like eyefinity or surrond. They are still seperate

        • @jazzyman9182: i have a 30" 2560x1600 flanked by 2 20" 1200x1600 so the resolutions match vertically

but it doesnt span it as a single monitor right

Was about to bite but I don't like the idea of having to run Steam in order to access an application.

    • +3

You only need steam to install it. Once installed it runs without steam, not sure about updates though.

I already had the regular free version, but using the steam one just added a steam license.

      • +2

Oh nice, that's much better then. Still going to be a cheapass and wait for the historical low of $5.99 though.

    • +2

You don't need to have Steam running to use DisplayFusion.

      • +1

Can it be installed without steam, like a normal program?

        • It installs like a normal program after you have downloaded in via steam

        • @waterproof: What if I get my brother to buy it (I don't have steam), can he then give a licence, or something to that effect, to me so I don't have to install Steam?

        • +1

Good question. I am not 100% on that. Looking at the license key for my one, it states: (license to) Steam License

and has the following in bold 'the license key for this installation is only valid for displayfusion when installed through the steam desktop client'. Personally, I dont know if it would work if you just copy the license key to a different computer. To be safe, I rather not buy it and wait till it has a sale for non-steam licenses :)

  • Been using mine since 2010 that I also bought for 2 other users.

  • If you use multiple displays, this is the best money spent ever.

  • Can I run this on all my computers that run steam?

  • Hows this work with someone running multiple screens with eyefinity?

    • This powers up Windows Explorer with better multimonitor management features —eg a taskbar for each display (I know Windows 10 does it already, but this does it much better), it adds extra shortcuts for window management, and it allows customisation of different screensavers / backgrounds independantly for each monitor. Bezel compensation, virtual monitors (splits your screen if you're rich enough to have an oversized one) And a lot of other features.

It has nothing to do with gaming — Eyefinity handles full screen gaming apps but it does not affect Windows Explorer. DisplayFusion OTH modifies your desktop (basically, a shell enhancement)

      • Thanks for the info.

Eyefinity once activated in my case causes windows to see all three screens as 'one' under displays.

I purchased this and its only detecting one monitor lol. Thought id share that.

        • +3

It detects only one monitor but will auto split into 3 'virtual' monitors, by ticking the 'Auto-split Eyefinity and nVidia Surround monitors' on the Monitor Configuration tab. I'm using it with Nvidia Surround and it knows to split the 5760x1080 into three 1920x1080 desktops.

        • @MuzzleAU: Cheers.

Didnt see that option until I looked again.

        • @MuzzleAU: does it do the reverse?

  • Yesssssss thank you was gonna get this the other day but $30 was a lot

  • Work well with Windows 10?

    • Yep, I've been using it on Windows 10 since I was able to upgrade ( about 6+ months i guess? ). I've had it for years now and it's by far the best tool.
I don't even think i use it all the features really. I only bought it because of how it creates another 'start bar' and can change my wallpapers on each screen individually….
Other users may be able to tell you about its other features

      • But those features are available by default on Windows 10.

        • True, but windows 10 second start bar wasn't as good I found. Didn't know about the wallpaper though. Can you select multiple folders?

    • It does work with Windows 10 but it's not required anymore as the features it adds are already in Windows 10.

  • great program if u have 2 or more screens.
it has a ton of display options.
    must have!

  • This is a great piece of software.

I bought after reading few comments about steam compatibility but this Certainly requires Steam app on the PC to exist first, which my office PC blocks. I tried to copy the downloaded displayfusion from c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common to work PC, but it wont run (no installer) without steam !

I think i wasted the 8 usd on this.

    • This is the cheapest it's ever been since three years ago when it first debuted on Steam, so no, it's a worthwhile buy. Besides, you get free lifetime updates. I've been using it since 2010 on the same license.

      • +6

ok, finally solved the install at my work PC

-Installed steam on personal home laptop and downloaded the display fusion, installed as well
-Copied the folder from C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\DisplayFusion to work PC
-Ran the DisplayFusionSetup and for the license, copied from personal install - about - license key (extremely big)

        • +1

Could you use the installer from the DisplayFusion website on your work PC and apply the license from your personal install if/when prompted? Or does that installer detect a key purchased via Steam and not accept it?

        • +1

@stebie: I too would like to know this.

        • @stebie:

I havent tried but the installer is special edition for the Steam (with steam logo), and license key says "The license key is only valid for displayfusion when installed through steam desktop client", so may not work.

Give a try and if any issue, i can share the install files via google drive or dropbox

  • still dont know how good it is. i have a monitor and a laptop. do i need this? will this software provide any extra functionalities more than plugging in the hdmi cable directly?

    • There is a Trial version…. https://www.displayfusion.com/Download/

Put it this way — this software is for power users who make the most of multi-monitor setups but are unhappy / unsatisfied with how the Windows Explorer manages multi-monitor situations. If you're cool with how Windows looks and behaves you probably don't need to buy the app. Stick with the free version or don't use it at all.

… this software does not benefit gamers (since multimonitor gaming is something handled by GPU drivers and the game itself).

      • thanks.

  • I bought this software last time it was on special ad have been using with my Dell 24in and 32in setup. Excellent software well worth it.

  • +1

Will this work on one of those ultra wide 31" (or something) monitors? So you can split the screen up into separate ones?

  • +1

Is this worth getting if your running Win10? It already supports multiple taskbars and such

    • +2

The Windows 10 multi monitor support is good enough for a majority of users.

You will only need this if you want ultimate control of the taskbar appearance and behavior.

      • Oh ok, cheers :)

    • Nah Windows 10 has nailed multi monitor support. You no longer require this program or UltraMon anymore.

  • Op did you buy it for $12 or $2? Because if you got it for $2 then this deal doesn't seem so good in comparison :)

    • After getting it for $2 more

      $12.

        english is hard

        • HAHAHAHAH this reminded me of year 12 English class, made my day Sir.

        • Well, thanks for correcting me rather than make myself continue to look like an idiot.

  • Can this be used in conjunction with 2 different monitors using different resolution settings?

    • Yes.

  • +1

    Thanks op. Great bargain.

I've been using this for a few years now, highly recommend it. Great application for those with multiple monitors and a very responsive developer. Frequent updates with a lifetime licence, it's excellent value for money.
