Ryobi Assorted 18v Garden Tool Kits $90 Nearly 70% off @ Bunnings

3970

Came across these on Bunnings home page absolute bargain considering the usual retail on these kits.

The hedge trimmer is usually over $239 from memory.

Seems like a nation wide deal but confirm with your local store.

Ignore the ticketed price it will scan up as $90 at the register

I just looked at masters and they have a large range of blowers, many at the same price as this promotion and seem to have good reviews too.

It might be 70% off but for those not invested in the Ryobi ecosystem this might not be such a good bargain? The hedge trimmer with only 1.5ah battery also concerns me as an old one I had would last 2min.

    • +1

Can't find one Blower around the same value. You really need to post links to examples.

    • I don't think you can go wrong with the Ryobi ecosystem especially for the price of the tools. Especially since nobody knows whats going to happen to Masters in the next year or so.

      • Whats happening at masters in the next year or so??

        • Rumours they may close down. I personally hope not but you never know.

        • @sshazam:

oh! They were new to Australia too

        • @Blurry:

Not confirmed but I think Lowes now has the option of pulling out and leaving woolworths on its own.

Don't buy these battery powered devices or you will be stopping your gardening every 10 mins for 1+ hours to recharge.

    • Not the case, I have the reciprocating saw and it lasts about half an hour on one battery cutting through tree branches etc

  • Still looking for that $20 blower deal. Yeah, that doesn't sound right.

    • I saw 3 $20 blowers at Masters in "the links" shopping center in Oakleigh South. (VIC)

I thought it was a pricing error or something, but they looked like they were some kind of no-name brand. Cheap though.

  • Thanks OP. I was wondering what people's thoughts would be on this drill kit
    http://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-one-18v-hammer-drill-kit_p6…

I'm in need of drill kit (moved into a house a few months ago, been holding out for a good drill deal). My friend told me I should get one with a hammer function if my walls are brick? Any better deals than the above?

    Thanks in advance guys!!

    • +3

If you only have the money for a low end drill, and particularly if you plan to drill through things like concrete/brick/cement, then I recommend buying a corded variant. All the drill bits there are cheap shitty ones, typically found in a $20 set. You can pick up Makita/Dewalt/AEG/Bosch corded drills for $200 which will blow that Ryobi out of the water.

I started out with the base model Makita (similar to what you listed in terms of power) and soon realised if I wanted to use it for concrete/brick/cement, then i'd need the higher up model. I now have this http://www.bunnings.com.au/makita-18v-lxt-mobile-brushless-h… which is a beautiful drill but obviously well outside your budget.

The Ryobi would probably get you there (in the end), but really struggles punching through concrete. I wouldn't buy that particularly set regardless as i've seen the drill/impact combos way cheaper before and I absolutely love my impacts drivers. I use it more than my drill i'd say.

      • Thanks Yekul. I noticed that the Makita you mentioned is also cordless? Any particular recommendations on a drill set?

  • How long does it take to fully charge one of those batteries?

    • -2

Define "full". Li-Ion can get to 50% or even 80% very quickly, but charging gets slower as it gets fuller.
So a small change to their cut-off point makes a big difference to nominal charge time.

  • Thanks op just got one!!! Crazy value! Another addition to my one+ collection. Actually have the previous version blower, interested to see how much better this one is.

    • Same here, I have the original Blower, so will give the new one a go later on. I mainly bought it for the batts, the unit is just a bonus :)

      • +1

Definitely worth the (free) upgrade! This new model is slightly bigger, longer and weightier. The switch is in a much more accessible spot and there is a very noticeable kickback when turning it on, that wasn't present with the older model. Moves gravel and small stones alot easier now!

Just for those interested RRP for line trimmer is $229, hedge trimmer $239 and cordless blower $199

    • +1

Sorry, but that's not fully correct. I've just been to Bunnings and bought all 3.

      RRP for each:

      Hedge trimmer - $239
      Blower - $199
      Line trimmer - $149

      • That was the price on the shelf at the store I went to. Maybe different stores have different prices.

        • Yeh line trimmer for $149 seems about right. From the reviews it seems to be the worst one from the 3 mentioned.

        • The newer model line trimmer is $229. If you somehow bought this one for $90 then congrats to you.

    • The $239 trimmer is a different kit, with a 4.0AH battery instead of a 1.5AH. The 1.5AH kit is indeed $149.

  • Has anyone actually picked up one of those blower kits at $90 yet? Just wondering if it's a pricing error.

    • +1

I picked one from bunnings Lidcombe still have one left. Confirmed 5hA battery included. Rrp $199 svan at $90.

      • Got one in Frankston.

    • I got one from Bunnings at Hastings VIC this morning. Still showing $199 on the shelf but no probs at the register to get it for $90. The bare skin was next to it on the shelf for $99. Battery is charging now. It was down a bit.

    • Got last one from Cannington, WA

    • Not an error. Got one from Malaga this morning. There was another one left at that time, but might well be gone by now.

  • I'm seeing a few comments regarding the blower, regarding 'the 5 volt battery'. The wording suggests that it doesn't come with ANY battery. It specifically says, if you already own a 5 volt battery, you can use it in this.

    • it comes with a battery

    • It definitely comes with the 5Ah battery.

    • I'm seeing a few comments regarding the blower, regarding 'the 5 volt battery'. The wording suggests that it doesn't come with ANY battery. It specifically says, if you already own a 5 volt battery, you can use it in this.

Sheesh, click on the link to Bunnings and it clearly states that it comes with a 5 AMP battery that is 18V!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where did anyone mention 5V?

    • +1

      You are absolutely correct!!!!!!!

It doesn't come with a '5 volt battery'.

  • damn, what a blowout deal!

  • +1

Can confirm these are all $90 - just picked up all 3. Bunnings staff said the special price ends today

    • Is there any other way of finding out when Bunnings specials end without asking staff?

      • Bunning doesn't have specials. Their catalogues are not actual special.
These rare good specials have seemed to be a weekend deal only.
        Usuallybending Sunday night.

  • Confirming the kit includes a 5.0ah batt and 2.8 hour charger. Anyone in Canberra, there is a pallet load at the front entrance of the Belconnen store.
    Many thanks OP 👍

    • Should be the fast 1 hour charger in the kit.

      • nope its 2.8hr

        • Oh right that is the fast charger, just takes 2.8 hours to charge the 5.0ah battery.

    • Also to confirm for Belconnites, they only have the Blower and Line Trimmer (both are at the front of the store)…no Hedge Trimmer in stock unfortunately

  • I bought the Line Trimmer kit on the 26th December for $229. Im a bit gutted that it is now $90. However…. my kit didn't come with a 1.5ah battery BUT with 2 X 4ah batteries …had a red sticker on the front pointing out it came with a bonus battery.
Im not sure what I have has the same SKU as the Line Trimmer with the 1.5ah battery because of this. If they do then I could try buying it again and return it later with the old receipt.

They still had 4 or 5 of these 2 battery Line trimmer kits at the country store I purchased from. Wonder if they will drop to $90.

    • +1

That kit still scans at $229, would have been nice if it was $90! Picked up the 1.5ah variant as my cheap petrol line trimmer died yesterday half way through doing my lawn. I have a couple more 1.5ah batteries from drills so hopefully it's enough.

      • Thanks for clearing that up for me johnno.

    • Im not sure what I have has the same SKU as the Line Trimmer with the 1.5ah battery because of this. If they do then I could try buying it again and return it later with the old receipt.

You want your cake and to eat it as well don't you! Different fineline and no you can't do what you said. Your trimmer is not $90, you received two batteries that would cost around $100 each in your package.

    • +1

I just bought that 2x 4aH line trimmer pack for $90. It scanned at $229 but the guy discounted it. He also said they were running a promotion where you get a bonus battery, so they gave me a 5aH battery too. I feel like a winner today.

      • What promotion to score the extra 5ah battery ?

      • +1

Thats not the $90 pack but you scored yourself a sweet deal !

      • +1

Can you please post a receipt if it's not too much trouble. Might try and see how I go this afternoon getting that pack for $90

      • Awesome deal.

But also keen to see reciept, possible price match

What bonus battery? Was this bunnings promo or ryobi promo?

    • Hi, how does it cut?. Is the head single line edge or twin edge?

  • awesome deal - I went and got the 20v Worx blower for 107 - they have the Hedger for 90 - but woukd have preferred the One+ kits

    • Could always return and buy this one.

  • Just came back from my local Bunnings (Rydalmere, NSW) confirmed $90 for each of them.

Stocked level not looking good base on what i saw and left on shelf.

    line trimmer 5-6
    hedge trimmer 1
    cordless blower 3

Bought 2 blowers since the battery by itself already cost more than $130.

    Thanks OP.

  • we already have the blower n line trimmer. Can someone advise if the battery for cordless hedger is powerful enough? we use corded hedger which has lasted yrs just because hedging takes a lot longer than edging and its annoying if battery runs out midway.

looks like we have to buy the line edger for the better battery and the hedger? but then we will have two edgers?

    • You get a 1.5ah with the hedger. It's good for about 10 - 15 minutes.

  • Thanks, picked up the blower. Was marked at $199 but scanned at $90 at the registers

  • +1

Thanks sshazam, picked up a blower.. or really, a 5ah battery on special that includes a free blower :)

P.s. there were 5 left in Wollongong.

  • +1

anyone had experience using the 5.0maH battery on other ryobi one+ devices, and in particular the ones that come with the 1.5's like the drill, trimmer, linetrimmer etc?

    • It will fit and give you more run time and power especially. Only downside is that it is more bulky and heavy.

      • The 5.0 battery will only give you longer run time. No extra power. They are both still 18v

        • -1

The 5.0ah battery does give you extra power.

        • +2

          No extra power.

Nonsense. Bigger cells in parallel means lower internal resistance, so more current possible.

But it does depend on the appliance as to how much difference this makes.

        • @manic:

Try running a larger battery on any power hungry cordless tool/brushless tool and you'll notice the difference in power.

        • 5 amp definitely gives you more power. Personal experience.
My rotary hammer is a little too hard to control with the 5 amp battery, it's that powerful

    • Yes, you definitely get more power with the higher capacity batts.

  • Thanks OP, just picked up the blower and hedge trimmer. There was plenty of stock of all at our Wodonga store :)

  • I bought a combination line trimmer and blower Ryobi kit 2 year ago. The line trimmer was pretty dinky but I loved using the blower. It lasted about a month before the line trimmer stopped working. Got a refund from Bunnings.

I have recently considered getting a 36 or 56v line trimmer. I think the extra power would be worth the extra expense.

  • +1

20+ blowers available at kent town s.a.

(edit. there were still like a crate of them unboxed)

    • i was at prospect, afew line trimmers, no blowers or hedge trimmer

      sold out at woodville

  • purchased the blower, confirmed does come with the 5.AH battery and charger. was $90

there is about 10 of them on the shelf at Seaford SA

  • Got the blower at sunshine, last one I could see. No hedger on the shelf and not sure about the trimmer. So happy with this deal almost bought the blower before xmas without the battery, would have been annoyed lol

  • Plenty of blowers and line trimmers at Marion. Think I might've got the last hedge trimmer though.

  • Would only get the blower. Hedge and trimmer not powerful enough.

  • +1

8 blowers left at Dural. I think 2 trimmers

    • Hi, thanks for post, any hedge trimmers?

      • 2 or 3 as well
        This was at 9am

  • Does anyone know whether Kirrawee, NSW store has any in stock? I just called but the lady I spoke seemed a bit dismissive so don't know whether to trust her when she said they didn't have any.

    • Call back and ask

    • This might be a bit late for you now, but I was there at 10 am this morning and there weren't any $90 hedgers at all.
The sales staff checked Caringbah as well and they didn't have any either.
The closest that may have had 4 in stock was Alexandria but I wasn't going there.
Kirrawee did however have a pallet of blowers and I duly picked one up 'for the battery'. Having said that, it sure does pack some wind.

  • Great deal! Just picked up the blower from Bunnings in Wodonga. Thanks!

  • +1

About 20 blower kits at notting hill. Great post thanks op. Blower definitely the best deal with the newer design and 5Ah batt

    • Also, Notting Hill don't have anymore of the line trimmer OR the hedge trimmer. Also told me that they've called most stores in the area, and none have stock

  • Good deal. Mentone had 1 blower left and a few line trimmers. No hedge trimmers though.

  • -5

Seriously, who buys a blower? So lazy….

  • Just nicked a hedge trimmer and a blower @ dural nsw. Think thereis one blower left. And a couple of line trimmers.

Girl at the counter said she has had 5 ppl picking these up this morning.

    Thanks for the Great post.
    Happy hunting.

  • I purchased an ozito kit and blower yesterday for roughly $200. I've thrown the boxes already and wish I could return them for this. Such a great bargain, anyone know how I'd go returning without the box? :/

    • -1

anyone know how I'd go returning without the box?

If the product becomes faulty in a short period after purchase, you can return for a refund.

So, your task is to make it faulty… or just claim it is (they dont test to check)

      • +1

We will test it. If we send it back to the manufacturer and they find no fault then we get fined or no credit or both. Then we have no choice but to put the costs up. Lose-lose all round I'd say.

    • Bunnings is fairly laid back mate, I doubt they'd care.

    • I've seen a lot of people that have done that

    • +5

Why not do the right thing and sell your kit on ebay and buy the Ryobi kit outright. Taking the advice of others to intentionally break the product so you can return it is fraud and costs us all more at the checkout.

      • . nvm

        • Or just return the new un-opened item with the old receipt. Then they can re-shelve it.
          Too obvious?

What part of he has already thrown out the boxes is hard to understand?

        • @Maverick-au:

it was the "ozito" part I missed. Damn you were fast to tell me off before i deleted the error :-)
And i think you completely missed what i said, so glass houses and all that.

2 Hedge trimmers still available at Parafield (SA)
