Ryobi Assorted 18v Garden Tool Kits $90 Nearly 70% off @ Bunnings

3970

Came across these on Bunnings home page absolute bargain considering the usual retail on these kits.

The hedge trimmer is usually over $239 from memory.

Seems like a nation wide deal but confirm with your local store.

Ignore the ticketed price it will scan up as $90 at the register

    • already have, also check gumtree

    • I had a look out of curiosity - TBH actually didn't see too many extra ones. Maybe one or two at most but perhaps over the next week or so. Only looked at Ryobi blowers on eBay "recent listings" though, didn't look at Gumtree (don't like it)

    • Not worth it. You will get killed with ebay/paypal fees and in postage/handling. Quite a low margin considering this.

      • ill be listing some batteries and chargers and stuff but its simply because i dont need 6 batteries and 5 chargers

        • Let me know when you are ready to sell a battery.

  • Thanks OP! Went to the Glendale NSW store looking for a hedge trimmer and the assistant said none in stock and offered to check stock at close by stores.

While he was gone, the wife pointed to the top shelf and asked "Is that one there?". On closer inspection it matched the model number on the shelf tag. We were surprised considering the scanner showed nil stock.

The wife said to go get the assistant and she would guard the shelf. Assistant came back and grabbed the elevated platform and handed me the hedge trimmer.

Not sure how many other people asked today and got told no stock.

Thanks to my "eagle-eye" wife and the inconsistency in the Bunnings stock system, I scored a hedge trimmer. A nice addition to my other Ryobi One+ products. :-)

    • If no stock on the shelf check the stack of stock above the shelf. There was only 1 blower on the shelf at my local store and maybe around 20 stacked up high on the top shelf storage area.

      Best wife ever

    • Same happened to me at Mascot this evening (minus the wife part). Grabbed the last one hidden up in the stock up top. (Last hedge trimmer, didn't see any of the blowers or edgers on a cursory look but wasn't looking too hard).

Thanks Op, grabbed the line trimmer today.

Block is only smallish, but I had no worries trimming the edges of the kerb, front yard, side yard and the overgrown rear yard without a drama on the small included battery. This thing ripper through buffalo and kikiyu grass on our lawns without a drama. It struggled a lil bit on the shitty weed grass and weeds in the backyard but got the job done, was just a bit slower than a petrol snipper. That said, for normal yard duties I would never own a petrol snipper again after giving this Ryobi One+ a whirl…

    • +1

Best thing to do is change out the original line to some 1.2mm-1.4mm line which will improve it 100%. It still doesnt come close to the power of a petrol or 36v unit but for the majority of homes it will suffice.

      • What the advantage of going to a smaller line, less load for higher line speed? Wouldn't there be a higher rate of line breakage?

        • -1

Its going to a larger line, the factory stuff is 0.8mm IIRC, reduces breakage and has more cutting power.

        • +1

@Copie: I measured mine at 1.65mm which matches the recommended size in the manual, hence my original comment.
          The imperial equivalent is 0.08"

        • @Elppa8:

I bought the Ryobi branded 3 spool pack for the line trimmer and it's a 1.5mm twisted line. It took me a while to find because I was looking for a 1.65mm. My tip is buy replacement spool and have it on hand so you don't run out like I did mid job.

        • The Ryobi recommended line was 1.5mm but the closest Bunnings had was 1.6mm. I found on Whirlpool some people saying they put 2mm line in it and it works better.

That said I was talking to the guy at Bunnings and he recommended sticking with the 1.6mm line and that whilst non-braided might not be quite as effective it would last longer. So I just bought a pack of 1.6mm line and assume I will be able to rewind the spool with that. The price of replacement Ryobi pre-wound spools seemed like a con job…

  • I was told Bunnings are matching the prices of a similar product at Master. I assume it's the "BLACK+DECKER 18V Lithium 2.0Ah" range.

Michael received Blower as a Christmas gift and decided to sell it for $165 after 9 days..LOL

  • Plenty of line trimmer sets left at Balgowlah and 3 blower sets as at 9.00am today.

Anybody have any opinions on the one plus mower? Have around 200 square metres of yard. Wondering whether a couple of the 5aH batteries would provide enough juice to cover this?

    • +1

Should theoretically be enough however 36V is more powerful. Also depends on the length of grass. If you leave it too long decreases runtime.

  • Any deals on the 36V Lawn Mower? In the market for a new mower and considering one over petrol.

  • Hi all, have a ~200sqm yard with the hedges spanning ~40m in length. Would these 2 do the trick for me:

    Hedge Trimmer:
    http://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-one-18v-1-5ah-hedge-trimmer…

    Line Trimmer:
    http://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-one-18v-1-5ah-li-ion-cordle…

Just not sure how powerful these are..

    • Hedge trimmer yes, line trimmer is not worth it for that big an area. Biggest savings is on blower and hedge trimmer rrp of 239 and 199 respectively. Line trimmer has rrp of only 149.

      • The hedge trimmer will be powerful enough? How much runtime will I get on a full charge?

What about if I do go ahead with the line trimmer also. Again will it be powerful enough? How much runtime will I get on a full charge?

        • -2

          bump

        • @Prat33:

A few people have said to replace the line with another one, supposedly that improves the line trimmer a lot.

If you have a big area you'll just have to make sure you have enough batteries to do the whole area.

Generally on a full charge of a 1.5ah battery you should see 15 - 20 minutes usage on the hedge trimmer, maybe 10 minutes if you're running it under full load.

  • I grabbed the Blower this morning and am considering the line trimmer. Can anyone tell me is the 5AH battery from the blower will also fit in the line trimmer?

    • Yes it's the same battery.

      • Thanks :)

  • Anyone know of any stores in Adelaide that has stock, Woodville doesn't have stock, checked this morning.

    • Plenty of line trimmers on a pallet at Modbury, couldn't see much of blower or hedger. Bunnings lady said they've been very popular.

    • Seaford had both this morning, Noarlunga only had blowers. They both said around 5 left of each.

    • Nothings at prospect but had the hedge trimmers

    • I got the last blower from Woodville SA at 7am today :)

      • Usually these specials are weekend only.

  • Anyone know of stock around Brisbane? After the hedge trimmer in particular. Called quite a few stores but I think I left it too late

    • Around 10 line trimmers and 10 blowers at Cannon Hill QLD. Could not find any hedgers. Looking for a hedger in Brisbane.

  • God helps us all find a bargain in 2017 after deals like this put Masters out of business. 18v batteries will be $100+… Still the deal is too good to pass on so I grabbed a blower.

  • I was in at Bunnings, Indooroopilly at 9am on Sunday and grabbed the blower. There were about 8 when I arrived. The line trimmer was $120.

What annoyed me the most was one staff member purchasing at least 3 (and then joking to me in the lift about not wanting customers to find them as he carried 2 down to his car) and reserving other stock for staff members. I left at 9:20am and there was 1 left. I am pretty sure there was only 1 other customer who had bought one.

I expect several of the gumtree deals are Bunnings staff members.

  • Just been to Bayswater,Vic and they dont have the blowers anybody locally seen any ?

    • -1

Hawthorn had a couple left about an hour ago…

      • thx :)

        • They also had stacks of line trimmers but were out of the hedger…

    • Not sure.

  • Anyone can advise if there is any blower let in Lidcombe area? Ashfields?

  • just been to moorabin, only have line trimmers left.

picked up 3 blowers- for me, my dad and mr bro- stoked.

feel little bad for a bloke there who was obviously an ozbargainer as he was on his phone for ages whilst looking at all the codes etc. i just asked the bloke who worked there and he was very friendly and picked up 3 for me from top shelf.

    good luck

Confirming I placed and prepaid a "special order" for the out of stock hedger @ $90

    • +1

Tried doing the same at Thornleigh NSW but was told I could not prepay at the discounted price of $90. Instead they told me if I put down a 'special order' for the blower I would need to pay the full RRP when I picked it up. Gave up arguing.

      • Yeah my store said sorry we can't do that.

    • Weird i've done a few special orders before and they have always told me to prepay.

  • Just bought the last blower kit from the Keysborough store. It was on one of the top shelves right at the back.

Great deal no way I could pass it up!

No special codes in the battery compartment :(

  • ill use the Blower kit to finally clean my room

  • I don't know it has been mentioned before but as my local stores run out of the blower I was able to pick up the discontinued model that is with the same blower but 4ah battery -also comes with the same speed charger. it was scanning at $99 but they were happy to go down to $90. Happy with the purchase as it's only 20% less juice.

  • does it comes with the charger?

    • yes, if you're asking me.

  • :) Thanks. Didn't realise i have replied to your post but thanks for confirming.

  • The middle part of the blower keeps on popping off. Any tips keeping it locked in or do I need to do a claim?

for anyone wondering about a radio in the ONE+ range (ryobi dont really have one). that $139 makita portable radio actually takes the ONE+ batteries. some guy at bunnings showed me, so i bought it! sounds pretty damn good for a portable radio too.

    http://www.bunnings.com.au/makita-cordless-am-fm-job-site-ra…

    • +2

      Bunnings has 2 models
      http://ryobi.com.au/catalogsearch/result/?q=radio

the new compact now has bluetooth

    • You would think that if it fits in the Makita radio it would fit in their other tools too, but I bet it doesn't.

    • how does it fit? its a completely different battery. I have seen and used both the Ryboi batteries and Makita batteries and they have a different fitting one is slidey and the other has a stickey out bit. (very technical I know). I have also put a makita battery in the makita radio but I wasn't paying a lot of attention.

      • not sure what the makita battery looks like, but im telling you it fits. have it sitting next to me. the 5 amp ONE+ battery sitting nicely in the back of it. had it running for about 8 hours yesterday, only took 1 bar out of the ONE+ battery life.

  • Just tried out the new Line Trimmer, and I must be doing it wrong, as it seems to be advancing / cutting the line nearly every time I hit the trigger (even after waiting for the head to stop turning).

Is that normal, or am I too trigger happy, or…?

    • I'm still on the old model, have yet to use this new one, but whenever I want to advance the line, I wait for it to slow down and almost stop, then squeeze the trigger. Doing this a few times in a row advances the line.

The line does not advance while it is spinning.

      • Hmmm…so when squeezing the trigger from a dead stop it should not advance the line right?

Only if the head is slowly spinning?

  • Maddington WA had a fair few blowers left, good luck!

  • There are still few blowers in Notting Hills store. Anyone know where I can get the trimmer in south east Mel?

    • Narre warren had quite a few a few days back.

  • Noosa Bunnings: sold out of everything,
Maroochydore Bunnings: Lots of blowers, ~5 line trimmers, I got the last hedge trimmer.

  • 2 blowers left at the Murray Bridge store if any Adeladians want to travel up the freeway. Plenty of line trimmers too

  • Thanks OP.

Managed to find a blower at Chatswood. Was the last one they had in stock.

  • Pretty much most stores in Melbourne sold out of the blowers.
I found an open box at Northland missing the battery.
I took it to the service desk and they replaced the battery, though the tool shop guy mentioned that the battery itself scanned for $129.

    Sweet deal for $90
    Thanks Bunnings. (ThanksOzB)

    • Same happened here, but only noticed when we got home and no battery.
Missus wnrt back and they replaced the battery. Have her a new one.
Really thoughtvwas going to have a headache over that.
I thought best case would be a refund on whole kit.
Happy with the service and outcome.

  • Called around Brisbane. Most places reporting sold out in all of Brisbane.

Couple of stores said there was one left (Oxley / Rocklea) - but "most likely display items". Went anyway to get a blower ~ (heaps left at rocklea), moved some boxes around ~ low and behold ~ hedge trimmer hiding in the back!

    :) Score!

  • Great deal, but missed out on the hedge trimmer, only got a blower. Went to three stores in the hope of finding a hidden hedge trimmer, but no luck. Arundel, Nerang, and Oxenford are definitely out, and according to their system, it's the same for the entire Gold Coast. As of an hour ago, there were three blowers left at Oxenford. Arundel still had quite a few line trimmers this Morning at 9.

  • No blowers at Mile End Adelaide, Saw a guy walking back in with one to return and then came down the down looking for a replacement but none available

  • +1

I have been to Bayswater,Vermont and Box Hill looking for a blower kit to no avail. I have phoned Dandenong and Scoresby and had no luck. They said they had 7 at Box Hill but they couldn't find any. Port Melbourne has 14 blowers on the computer if anyone is that way(I would still ring)

I spoke to the nice guy at Box Hill and he suggested phoning and checking to see if any get delivered on weds/thurs.

The blower is such good value as is the line trimmer probably(my lawn is so rubbuish it doesn't need trimming), especially if you have any other Ryobi One stuff.

    • +1

      Try narre warren.

    • Try Chirnside Park

    • Thanks OP for posting the great deal.

Went and picked up a blower kit from Bunnings in Melton. They had few blowers and line trimmers in stock. No hedge trimmer though

  • plenty of line trimmer at seven hills, but no hedge trimmer around

  • Quite a few in Eucha

  • +1

    Thanks op.
Bunnings Mt Lawley/Inglewood still has a few blowers left on the top of the shelf at 5pm. Bunnings Innaloo still ha 3 line trimmers left at 6pm.

  • I grabbed the last blower @ Port Noarlunga (SA) Luckily someone put one on hold and never picked it up so the nice lady gave me first dibs. Plenty of line trimmers and hedge trimmers in store though!

  • Went into a Townsville Bunnings and the $90 special Trimmer was on a box that did not include Battery and Charger. So there are no bargains here.

    • There were heaps with battery at North Shore on the weekend. Where did you go?

  • Purchased a blower kit, considering the one+ mower now.

    So,

Buy the one+ mower & another blower kit for the battery,
    Or
Buy the 36v Mower with it's own batt for an extra $10?

Are the mower pretty much the same?

    • I think the 36V one would be much more powerful.

There is a mower which takes 2x 18v batteries but i'm unsure of the power delivery.

    • same boat as you - already had a trimmer and a drill - bought the blower for the 5amp battery - tried it out and really like the improved power and duration on the trimmer (used less than half the battery now after a 30min usage!). Looked at the mower then realised it didn't come with any batteries. So do I scrounge around to see if I can get another blower for the Battery (local bunnings has none now) or look at the 36v.

I think it would be useful to have batteries I can use in my 'other things' though now I have a 1.5 a 2.0 and a 5amp for those which should have me covered.

If I end up looking at 36v is there any benefit to sticking with the brand.. what are the battery replacement costs and lifespan on them etc. Decisions decisions. One other factor is I was looking for a small electric chain saw (I have a lot of native scrubby trees to maintain)- my dad has one and it is really really good. Looking at the 18v Ryobi there is no way it will last or do the job but the 36v one looks fairly decent… so maybe 36v mower is the way to go for me and those two items can share their own battery.

      • With the one+ mower they dont need to be the same sized batterys to use it, you can use any combination so the 5 + 2 would work fine.

The 36v and one+ mower are the same, both are 36v they just use different battery packs, better off keeping it all using the same battery packs rather then having another battery + charger laying around.

The mower itself is decent, though before use i highly reccomend pulling the blade off and sharpening it as its a bit meh from factory (no edge at all on it)

        • Thanks for that - guy at bunnings told me they had to be the same Amp on the battery.

        • @Elijha:

Nah, amperage is the same anyways, only the capacity is different. I've been using a 5 and a 1.3 in mine for ages with no problems.

  • On Monday (04/01/2016) I went to the Thomastown VIC store and picked up, what was then, the last hedge trimmer. Box was damaged, but it had everything inside so I went for it.

  • +4

Now just need a Ryobi drill deal!

  • -1

There might be possibility that the price might be even lower in couple months.

Remember Stanley Screwdriver set $24? Around christmas it sell for $12
Not sure if it's clearance for that item

    • -1

      Those were different models
