    ha-do-ken!!!!

  • what's the "Rhee" Taekwondo? a north korean taekwondo?

    • Sho-ryu-ken

    • It's a school of taekwondo founded by Chong Chul Rhee. It's one of the larger Australian school's (if not the largest) and focuses on the military style rather than the sport style.

My experience when i shopped around a very long time ago was that taekwondo schools around brisbane were very lame compared to korean TKD overseas
TKD has a lot of super kicking and a lot of the instructors could not even do the splits or any good kicks
As teenagers self taught my friend and I were surprised that we could perform better kicks than the instructors at all the places we visited
Watch 'The best of the best' to see what real korean TKD is like

So as someone under the age of twenty you rated yourself better than instructors after you self-taught yourself (it's not like teenagers drastically overate their efficacy at er .. everything or anything right :D )and "real" TKD is like a movie starring EWric Roberts.

      I see.

      • Sure did. My friend could do splits and kick way higher and faster.
Was also threatened by a gang when I was drunk to kick the train station light on the roof of the tunnel or they would bash me.
I managed to kick it hard enough to break the light.
Also did a spinning jumping side kick to smash open the fire exit to get people into the cinema in the city.
        Others tried and failed.
Oh and doing a high side kick to remove someones baseball cap was fun but also a bit risky if you hit the nose but I did it a few times successfully

Lots of these places offer instructor work to non martial artists to be trained.
Eric Roberts is not real TKD I meant the most of the korean team and of course the Master Hee Il Cho himself

        https://www.google.com.au/search?q=Master+Hee+Il+Cho&ie=utf-…

Now whether or not I could have beat these guys in a fight is a whole other story.
I was rating the lack of skills in black belt instructors.
If you like to have low to no standards that is your loss.

TKD without its super kicks is like muay thai without elbows and knees
My lame bragging aside my point is to be aware that your instructor might not be very good at all.
Ask him to do the splits and a split kick or similar.

"did a spinning jumping side kick to smash open the fire exit to get people into the cinema in the city"

You smashed open a door to get people into the cinema for free and you are proud of that?

When you grow up just a weeny but more, you will discover that real Taekwondo teaches morals such as honesty, decency, inner strength as a vital part of your development.
You sound like little more than a teenage smart ass hanging around annoying people and breaking the law in minor ways.
From memory, the QLD police just love giving out free right-from-wrong lessons.

        • @King Tightarse:
Proud of it back then and I was worse than a smart ass unfortunately.
As a teenager back then I am not ashamed for sneaking into cinemas.

I was not discussing TKD in regards to my actions I was clarifying that some of the skills were qualified by more than teenage overating to bolster my claim that people need to assess their instructor beyond his belt colour or certificate.

@thelastnoob: "McDojos" seem to always be the majority. 20yrs of UFC seems to have come full circle on the industry. Killed-off hype, only to replace it with their own.

  • How does this compare with Rex Kwon Do? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hzh9koy7b1E

If like Chuck Norris you reckon that roundhouse kicks solve any and all problems, Taekwondo is the martial arts for you.
You'll learn to kick like a mule with its balls wrapped in duct tape and do full splits with ease.
Plus you'll never worry about the uniform breaking its seams around the crotch, its very roomy down ther.

  • Rhee isn't particularly good and is not WTF associated if I remember correctly, so you have no chance of competing at the Olympics. Russell Macarthur's schools around Brisbane are probably the best if you were hoping your kids could one day compete for an Olympic medal.
