i have one of these connected to HTPC, it looks great on paper, looks ok on coffee table too,
    but
i find it MEH and will change it at first opportunity.

the touchpad is too small - next to useless , the function keys are pain to use, layout sucks - shift hard to use.

    • +1

That's strange. We have 2 of these and I have huge hands that struggle with anything small and my son has a disability that affects his fine motor skills and we don't find that. The problem we have is that no matter how many times you turn off the double tap touchpad right click it doesn't stay off which is hopeless for those with motor skill problems.

      • Just sharing my experience, others seem to like this keyboard.
I guess that makes me fussy lol..

Sorry, I never use the touchpad on it so can't comment on your issue.

  • +5

I am really happy with mine 2 years already.

  • +2

Don't mind mine. Find it does its job well as a HTPC keyboard - though I wouldn't try and write War and Peace on it.

    • +2

Exactly… Does the job as far as a HTPC is concerned.

  • This or microsoft all in one keyboard $34 msy? need one for my HTPC soon.

    • This.

    • i went for microsoft all in one, and i think its fantastic. both look great, but i felt for the same price that microsoft was slightly more solid.
same function, so just down to personal preference.

    • Have used both, prefer the Microsoft one by a large margin. Trackpad is much bigger, keyboard has better feel, batteries last longer, never gives grief over driver installs. And it's cheaper.

    • i have both. i agree that the MS one has much better build quality and feels much more solid. in use, however, I much prefer the K400R. i personally find the trackpad on the MS to be even worse than the K400R (which is not a great trackpad to start with). YMMV.

FYI, this is NOT a good price for the K400R. it is regularly on sale much cheaper than this (and cheaper than the MS one).

best if you can try them out and decide for yourself!

    • Is your home theatre in a dark room? I've had both but have moved on to a K830 for ~$70, the backlit keys are much easier if I want to type anything.

  • Not really a deal. Search for k400r, and you can see it has been cheaper loads of times in the last 6 months.

    • Good for a price match. However because of HNs price this isn't a bargain.

It is suitable for use with Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP.

FFS, its a USB keyboard. It will work on Windows '95, a Mac, Linux, a blu-ray player, Android, or just about anything with a USB port.

Would get one, but I stocked up on $8-after-rebate Microsoft all-in-ones.

Will it work with my Hyundai i45?

      • It might. of course you are only talking about the entertainment system.
Engine management will need an ODBII interface.

      • +6

It will work to increase the value of that model by a measurable % if you just leave it in the boot

      and ChromeOS

Did windows 95 ever support USB? I though support was introduced in Windows 98SE?

      • No, Windows 95 didn't have USB support. There were sometimes patches to enable it in certain OEM versions, but the short answer is no.

    • If you weren't in Perth I'd offer to buy one of your all-in-ones (my Microsoft 800 keyboard has died, won't talk to the dongle)

      • Are you on Win 10?

I had issues with the Microsoft 800 after upgrading to Win 10. It is a known issue with the drivers. It still works fine though just not Win 10.

        • no, win 7. Keyboard has sat around a couple of months (due to a monitor failure) worked fine then, nothing has changed.
I've tried rebooting, loading latest drivers, every different USB port, zero joy.
The only thing that keyboard does now is light up the green led for about 14 seconds when you replace the batteries.

  • Another keyboard I need to buy to add to my incoming Pendo collection.

  • I bought one ages back intending it for HTPC use, these days it's plugged into the back of my smart tv and I use it for controlling netflix on there. Guess it's still a 'htpc', just it's a tv running things not a real pc. :P

  • Great little keyboard for what it is (ie. HTPC keyboard), but this is not a bargain.

Can be had for under $30 frequently, especially now that K400 plus is available. $39 is standard price that it's always available for.

  • I have one. Track pad is a joke and it needs line of sight to the dongle. Would not buy again.

haven't this k/b been this price at OW for a while now? I remember getting mine a while ago at this price

Getting one of these for $20 on clearance from Officeworks really was a good deal now that I think of it.

  • Not much of a bargain. Got it for $20 nearly a year ago I believe, priced matched HN at TGG

    • Same, $20 I bought about 2 months ago.

  • Well done on your first post, a + from me and and Boo to the person neg you and yet never posted a deal .
I actually got one of these, but switch back to wireless combo (separate mouse), just personal preference.

  • It was alright consider you can live with the following:

    1. If you have another input devices other than logitech connected to the same pc. be ready that your K400r specific settings (e.g. disable/enable pinch gestures, tap as click etc.) will be wiped away randomly

    2. everytime you turned the switch on, and then off, the keyboard specific settings will be wiped away and you have to open the setpoint to "Apply" the changes again as well.

    3. the trackpad will started to not respond after 1 year or 2 of usage.

Because of the above, I changed to K400 plus but it is only a little bit better…

  • Had mine for 2 years, has been great.

S*&%s all over my old Microsoft media centre keyboard that used infrared line of sight. That was hell.

  • is this just the normal price?

  • I have one connected to my mac to watch netflix on my TV. Works ok, trackpad is a bit naff. Wouldn't pay $39 for it though, picked it up for ~$20 about a year ago on clearance at AusPost, I think that's the ballpark of what it is worth.

    I personally think anyone interested in this for htpc or even for pc would be far better off with a cheap 'combo'. something like this;
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/161864495210
with 20% off right now its actually kinda a deal with delivery @ $30.60 and then you have proper keyboard to type with and a proper mouse instead of clumsy low quality touchpad that may or may not be very useful depending how often you use it.

Only reason im posting this is because im replacing my aging 4+ year old logitech K230 keyboard [that I use with my HTPC] with a new one today and tried to find a bargain here first, bing lee was the best price I can find so I guess mrs bing lee can take my money today.

    • +2

you're entitled to your opinion, but i completely and utterly disagree.

is a proper mouse a "better" (more precise, etc) pointing device? of course. is a full keyboard a "better" (easier to type) keyboard? of course.

but do i want a full keyboard and mouse (separate, and requiring a surface) in my living room? hell no, absolutely not.

all in one units like this serve a purpose. it's a tradeoff. tell people they are "far better off" with a combo is telling someone else what their needs and preferences are. sorry, but you are wrong - i personally am far far far better off with my K400R, thank you very much.

particularly since you said "even for pc", it demonstrates that you just don't understand this product.

Well said. I used to have a lounge chair with flat arm rests. I used I wireless keyboard and mouse combo because it was practical. We use the K400r's now because we use them on a our laps on a sofa and a wheelchair which negates the advantages of a separate mouse (they are just a pain without an adequate surface). The usefulness is based entirely on the individuals circumstances.
