TP-Link Archer D7 AC1750 $128 @ EB Games

480

Just went into Officeworks Milton (Brisbane) store and did the price match today. Was originally planning on price matching to EB Game's price they had up yesterday when I did all my comparisons and they were $149.95. When I requested the price match at Officeworks they looked up on their computer and it showed the $128 sale price so I got especially lucky. Was kinda funny that the couple being served at the register beside me paying full price ($179) for the exact same modem router, and they were both paying half of it. Not sure when it ends sorry.

12/1: Price at Officeworks is now $128

  • Great product, hoping for some good deals on D9 soon…

  • Good price.

Can anybody recommend some decent yet fairly priced antennas that support dual band? Mine just doesn't quite reach some corners of the house with the supplied ones.

  • +1

Can this or D9 use as Naked ADSL2+

    • +3

The D series (D2/D5/D7/D9) are ADSL2+ modems with gigabit whereas the C series (C2/C5/C7/C7) are just wireless routers with AC and gigabit
The D20 and C50 just dont have gigabit

      • +2

I use my D7 AC1750 with "MYNETFONE" naked DSL and it runs great

        • +1 I use my D7 with MNF aswell, works without adjusting anything

Couldn't have helped them out with that?

We need a motto on the front page: "Thou shalt assist others with savings"

      • +5

If they want to be helped……
Some people, you can lead them the way,but up to them to want to save.
Yesterday's shopping express micro sd card deal, prompted Dad to buy it, he replied “I don't know that store“ and proceeded to pay a lot more from Harvey Norman.

I often try and help people with beter prices/cheaper prices…….often met with “too much hassle” “can't be bothered” or strangers just looking at you strangely

But yes, I agree with your motto and appreciate other OzB`ers tips and advice and help.

        • Happens to me all the time. I learn my lesson and don't bother helping those people in the future, that's all. Their loss, not mine. I hear those exact lines, so many times… Oh, it's only twenty bucks, oh I can't be arsed to pick up on store, I'll pay 12 bucks delivery, I wanna see what I buy so I'll buy it in store and pay full price.

          If I had a penny I tell you…

  • Purchased it a few months ago (during this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/219541). Goes fine, might buy billion next time. I remember the worker at my local store told me she was glad to get rid of it as it had been gathering dust for over a year on the top shelf.

  • Grabbed one of these the other week using Officeworks price match (EB website had them at $150 but instore was $128). FYI - EB seems to have hardware v1.0 (green text on boxfront) vs Officeworks v1.1 (blue text). Not sure if there is any difference though. I like the interface much better than other offerings D7emulator.

  • Thanks dude price matched at OW Elizabeth Street Melb, had been looking for a modem / router for a while. One still on the shelf if anyone is keen.

  • What's the difference between the D7 and the C7? I see someone said the D series are ADSL2+ modems with gigabit whereas the C series are just wireless routers with AC and gigabit - but what does that actually mean? (I'm in the process of moving into a share-house and getting the internet set up)

    • +1

No modem, so you need separate modem. A C series (router) would work where you are plugging into a cable modem or similar. A D series (modem/router) would work too, with the modem disabled. So typically a modem/router is priced higher than an equivalent router.

      • +1

Ah cheers - so I'll just be able to plug the cable from the wall into the D7 and we're good to go (essentially)?

        • +1

Yep, all you need is your ISP username and password, and you're done. It took me just 5mins to setup my D7.

        • Thank you!

        • Depends what you mean by cable. Our old coax cable needed a modem router, our NBN just needs the router.

        • @Brouw3r: I'm not sure what sort of connection we'll have yet (I know NBN isn't available in the area) but I guess the D7 covers all bases

      • @ Domingo So, if I have cable modem already, I can still use this as a router with modem disabled? How do you disable the modem - just a setting in the software?

        • +2

There's typically a setting called "Bridge Mode". Put the router into that and run a LAN cable from the port on your cable modem to the WAN port of the router and you're all set.

        • @Domingo: I understand that, have bridged to a router before but never a modem/router. Just wanted to ensure there were no issues doing that.

        • @churchado: yes, its fine to do.
I have one of these, had ADSL2+.
Then got cable and turned the D7 into a router only.
Running that way for ~12 months now.

EDIT: there are 4x ethernet ports on the back, one of them becomes the WAN port (from the cable modem) and the other 3 ports are for other devices/switches etc.

  • Carnegie, Victoria had a ton of stock (~20) on the capping near the front to the store, but none on the shelf. Staff were pleasant enough getting two down for me and price matching.

  • can anyone post image of OW receipt please for pricematch at local store, they asked to check stock avilability at local EBGames to pricematch and refused to do so when EB website states No Stock At This Area :(

  • Great, I will get one tomorrow and return my $200 still in box Belkin AC1200 to jbhifi.

  • I have called EB Games Hornsby, Top Ryde store and none of them has stock.
They also checked nearby stores, no stock.
    Anyone got it in Sydney?

    • I price matched at officeworks North Sydney. Got it cheaper.

      • Thanks for the info.
Did they call any EB games store to check stock?

        • Nope just looked at their site

    • Out of stock in Pitt Street (not back until 28 Jan according to the store)

  • Carnegie out of stock or the lady is too lazy to check for me, but get one in Chadston OW for 5% less, still has 10 unit left on shelf.

  • I priced matched at Officeworks Lewisham, NSW this afternoon.

  • Cheers! Did the price match at officeworks for about $121. Had been slowly driven insane by my old modem and the new modem has completely disappeared from my consciousness. Which is the sign of good technology.

  • Bought 2 of these. Great post, thanks very much. These are solid devices, highly recommended especially at this price! :)

  • My experience with TP-link is limited to a PCI Wireless 802.11n NIC which was buggy. That was of course a few years ago. Interested to know your thoughts if you've used this router. Also how'd the performance be in a concrete walled single storey house (where placing it in the middle of the house isn't really an option)? Thanks in advance.
