Free $0 Coles Prepaid $2 SIM @ Coles Express (ING/Coles MC Users)

660

Another month, new ATM vouchers. The ATM will charge you $1 for a balance enquiry and $2.50 for a withdrawal. However, you should have a debit card that gives you free ATM use via an instant rebate. This is available to ING Direct card holders (amongst others). Coles MasterCard holders can make a balance enquiry for free.

At the end of your transaction you get the option to choose from four vouchers. My pick this month is the free Coles Prepaid $2 SIM. It was available last month but the drinks are no longer free. It's a triple fit SIM so at the very least you get a free SIM adaptor. You could also use it to port out and back in to a discounted Telstra $30 Starter Kit. Or you could simply frisbee it at someone's head, the choice is yours!

The picture says available until the 17th Feb. Vouchers will not be issued after 3rd of Feb, but any voucher is valid for two weeks.

Coles Prepaid uses the Optus 4G network.

Would that make it a freesbie?

Thanks for vouchering for stupid jokes!

Free is always a bargain :)

  • Hi OP .. Nice find ..

PS: May I suggest going for BYO deal on unlimited plans than paying $30 for a Telstra prepaid .. I personally find that better value for money .. would you agree?

    • +3

I never pay $30/month for my Telstra Prepaid service.

      • Oh pray tell…

        • @sween64: Which part of that link tells you how to pay under $30/month for your telstra prepaid?

        • +2

          @ilikeradiohead:
You can recharge $30/month and then change your plan to Simplicity to deplete your bank of recharge credit. You can buy $30 recharge vouchers from a petrol station when refuelling and receive an additional 10c/L off. You can buy $10 Top Up on Freedom Plus for 1GB and $10 call credit. You can use two devices: have your primary on Simplicity while activating discounted $30 Starter Kits on Freedom Plus for 2.6GB data and $700 outgoing calls in the secondary device and CM2U $29 to your primary SIM. So many options, especially for high data low call use.

          @ilikeradiohead:

Recharge with Long Life and then change offers to Simplicity – For example make a $70 recharge on the long life plan to get a 12 month expiry on the account balance and then switch to the Simplicity Offer and you will keep the 12 month expiry but be able to use the $70 at Simplicity rates.

          $5.83/month

@sween64: buying $30 voucher from coles express did not entitle me an additional 10c/l the lady at the counter said the offer is not available with vouchers.

        • @rashed:
Bad luck. It works at Woolworths/Caltex. I also shop there to use my 5-30% discounted Wish eGift cards.

It's also quite different. We can let the votes decide.

    • Optus is expensive.

    • No. This offer is better.

  • +2

Freebies are good but there's no practical use with this one (at least for myself).

    • +2

Then don't get it. Some people will enjoy it.

      • -2

Just being honest. No need for that attitude.

  • I got this coupon by chance and the servo I was at didn't have any Coles SIM cards, and neither did the other Coles Express I filled up at again today :(

    • Sometimes they might be behind the counter. I grabbed one today and there were multiple in stock. Guess you might have to be lucky.

    • +1

Also these coupons are valid for a while.. so you can try a few till then.

      • Either valid for two weeks from issue or until the 17th Feb, I'm not sure yet.

  • Will this work using the number to register account for https://www.optusperks.com.au/

    • According to t&cs, no. Otherwise I would stack up.

    • +1

No. It's Coles Prepaid reselling the Optus network.

  • Free SIM for Free SecureParking and free JB Hifi now :)

    • Do new customers receive a free trial on JB Hi-Fi Now and a new mobile phone number allows you to pose as a new customer? Similar to Uber credit.

      How about the SecureParking?

      • +1

Yup, JB Hi-Fi Now has been offering free trial for 30 days since the beginning and you can get your SecureParking using this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/218649 (It's NOT expired. The deal is still there on Liven).

Both of these require a mobile number to activate.

        • Do you need to be a Liven Premium member or can you get a free trial of that too?

How long does the unique voucher last for? You can use it three times so I assume about a month.

        • +1

@sween64: free trial would do. I think the code lasts for 3 months after activation and can be used up to 3 times.

    • Wait what? Free secure parking? Tell me more

      • +1

Yeah. See my comment above mate :)

        • Ah thanks. Shame that it's Melbourne only though!

        • @illumination: Really? I didn't know that. I thought both Liven/SecureParking are national wide?

        • +1

@MadMaxBargainRoad: The deal you linked to says Melbourne CBD.
Liven I'm quite sure is Melbourne only (had it installed briefly until I realised I couldn't use it)
Secure Parking as a company is nationwide yes, but the deal is MEL only.

  • Sad. no more free water…….

    • +1

There's almost 6000 places to get free water in Melbourne. If only you lived here…

  • They used to have $10 Optus packs with this deal. Shame it's gone now

    • I've still got a stack of those. They're good for 5 days of 500MB data/day. Also free unmetered streaming of cricket.

  • got heaps of theses 4 porting. what other vouchers r there this month?

    • Check the website. 30c coffee, $1.50 hot chocolate, and $2 coconut water I think.

  • Thanks op! What's the expiration date on your sim? I don't need any filler sims at the moment but hoping i can hold onto these for a few months.

    • +1

Nov 2016. If my experience with Optus is anything to go by there's a good possibility that even after the expiration date they can be successfully activated. They have the same packaging, same lack of printed service number and are an Optus reseller. I assume Coles Prepaid will be very similar. Think of the date printed on the back more of a Best Before.

      • Hahah thanks sween64 will definitely grab a few :)

      • +1

Can also confirm that the Optus SIMs are not a true "Use By" and more a "Best Before". Have tried it myself, but I tried it about 2 weeks after the quoted expiry date.

Anyone know if this is the case with Telstra SIM packs too?

        • +1

Definitely not the case with Telstra SIMs. I'm not sure of an analogy but you may be unlucky enough to have a Telstra SIM fail to activate before the expiration date. Their SIM packs have a service number printed on the back. The service numbers get recycled in to their system approximately two weeks before the printed expiry date. I've never attempted to activate a Telstra SIM past the expiration date, I wouldn't leave it that long.
