Explosive diarrhoea is a non optional extra.

The chance of getting "gastro" can be significantly reduced if proper hygiene is observed: The washing of hands before the meal and after handling public utensils (like food thongs).

Another thing that helps alot (for me) is to be in front of the line.

The chance of getting gastro can be significantly reduced by not going on a cruise ship.

Which is literally an inescapable confined space where you are surrounded by people who DON'T observe proper hygiene.

No amount of hand washing and tongs is going to keep you safe.

That is very true, however, my post is for those who would want to go on a cruise ship. I can go on about getting gastro from unsafe food handling (from any restaurants around town) blah, blah, blah but I won't (out of topic).

No amount of hand washing and tongs is going to keep you safe.

Maybe. Me and 26 other family & friends went on a 10-day cruise in 2015. None of us got gastro because we all observed strict hygiene (can't elaborate any further as it may bore other people). But it was possible when some passengers were struck with gastro. And I also minimized the risk even further by not going to the buffet restaurant and chose to have served menu.

I have spoken to a number of boat crew members and our GPs and they all come up with the same response: The people who were struck with Gastro don't wash their hands (thoroughly). Example: They wash their hands with the provided sanitizers, go to the grab their food, put their food down and go to the toilet. Leave the toilet without washing their hands and proceed to eat their food. This is one method of how gastro spreads in the boat.

  • Now with free gastro!! :-p

  • where does it go? or do I pay $50 a night just to sleep on the Brisbane River?

    • This is a South Pacific cruise.
Please see the included link to the deal page for the exact itinerary.

    • You'd catch slightly less disease if you slept in the Brisbane River…

    ozbargain Meetup!!

  • Please Note:
QUAD Cabins: are based on 2 Adults and 2 Children.

So what's the price for four adults? It seems deceptive not to mention this in the title or deal.

    • This particular price is actually based on 4 adults for the quad. (updating Deal description now - thanks!)

Pls call the office if you'd like to book.

      Thanks.

      • My parents are visiting Australia on tourist visa can they travel on this ship as this ship will be going to couple of islands so do they need a visa to get into those islands?

        • Please give the office a call on 1300 369 806.

They will be able to give you details on this.

          Thanks.

      • What is the difference between cabin type inside, outside and balcony? Does outside one has view towards ocean? And what is cabin code?

        • Inside = interior / no windows.

          Ouside = oceanview / has a window.

Balcony = balcony / has a door which you can walk out onto your own private balcony.

        • Does outside one has view towards ocean?

There is a porthole (approximately 900 mm) or a window. The window cannot be opened.

What is the difference between cabin type inside, outside and balcony?

Inside room and outside room are worth considering. Balcony only if you're splurge with cash, trying to impress or wanna do something "kinky".

NOTE: Please don't get offended by the "kinky" bit. In my cruise back in 2015, one couple did the "wild monkey dance" on the balcony whilst the boat was underway. (Hey, whatever floats-your-boat.) If you do happen to be planning to do this, then do remember there is a powerful camera mounted under the flying bridge (facing towards the back).

  • Looking for similar out of Sydney!

    Thanks

  • Be aware that each cruise ship company/brand targets a specific demographic. Just because it's XYZ means it's good/bad.

There used to be a website that had a rating based on the cruise ship company/brand but was removed (due to legal reasons). The "best" website nowadays is THIS. It may not have all the cruise ship company/brands in Australia/NZ sphere but you get the idea.
