David Jones AMEX - 27000 bonus points offer (=$200 DJs giftcards)

90

Apply INSTORE for a David Jones American Express Card between 11th and 14th March 2010 to receive 27000 bonus points when you first spend outside of David Jones within 7 days of receiving your new Card.

27000 points may be redeemed for $200 worth of David Jones Giftcards.
This is double their current (usual?) offer of 13500 bonus points.

More information on the card may be found at the David Jones website under the 'David Jones Card' tab:
http://www.davidjones.com.au/dreamchoice.aspx

Note: I do not have one of these cards (so I can't comment on them) but am interested to get one through this offer.

[Edit]: The email I received does not mention the annual fee being waived so I guess we can assume it to be the usual $99 per year (still make $101). Reading past similar bargains, David Jones SOMETIMES waive the annual fee for the first year, when you apply instore - unsure if they will do the same for this offer.

Fine Print:
" The 27,000 Bonus Gift Points offer is available to approved Cardmembers who apply instore between 11 March and 14 March 2010 and spend outside of David Jones within 7 days of receiving their new Card. Offer not available to existing David Jones American Express Cardmembers or customers applying for the David Jones American Express Staff Card. • Isn't it $100 dollar annaul fee for these cards. So, really you are getting $100 of gift card instead of $200.
They have had this promotion earlier.

  • While this offer is ok, it doesnt beat the on the spot $50 gift card offer + $200 worth of points back in november.
i did sign up for the one in november and hoping to collect $400 of gift cards before cancelling it cos yeh the annual fee is a big negative.

    • wouldnt siging up for lots of credit cards kill ur credit rating?

      • Define "LOTS"

10 credit cards? 20 credit cards? 50 credit cards?

Isn't "credit rating" determined by how well a person handles their credit? - not the amount of credit cards someone has.

Would it not be prudent to give a better credit rating to someone with 10 credit cards and always pays the bills on time rather than someone with 1 credit card and never pays the bills on time?

      • "wouldnt siging up for lots of credit cards kill ur credit rating?"

It would make it difficult for you to take out a loan, since the bank will consider how much debt you carry, but has no negative effect on your credit rating as such. This is from personal experience - I currently have 5 credit cards, and have probably signed up for and cancelled at least that many again in the last 7-8 years. Never missed a payment, and didn't have any problems getting 2 investment property loans.

        • ah that was it kills ur ability to take out loans
and this is from my eco teacher, while taking out lots of credit cards and paying em on time actually seems like one can handle their finances really well, but in the eyes of the person giving the loan it seems like the person is in financial trouble to require that many credit cards

  • annual fee is nothing guys for a reward system. average out there is 100.
man i turn 25 a week later so probably wont give it to me. just pick up the free voucher and cancel when you get your gift vouchers.

  • This is not too bad. Something for nothing.

  • If I didn't just apply for the Jetstar Mastercard, I probably would have taken this offer up :-)

  • I've got a card, applied last year in April and so far, I've received about $400 in gift vouchers. Reward system is pretty good, 2660 points to get a $20 voucher, so you accumulate the points very quickly. Plus when I signed up there was a double bonus for 6 months. Anyway, i'll probably cancel it when I have to pay the annual fee again, or maybe i'll ring them and they'll waive it!
