Walking past shops with waffles always smells so good. But it's always disappointing to eat.

Anybody know how to make a waffle thats any good? It always seems like the waffle is the crap part, and that you're just wasting a good topping.

Unsure if trolling, or the one you had were poorly made or waffles are just not your "taste".
Mine are always taste super yummy, like toasted thin slices of cake. Even without topping.

      • Not trolling. Always disappointed by the taste.

        Various eateries/restaurants/hotels.

        • Have you tried the waffles at max brenner. They are gods gift to man

        • @widn:

There's only one max brenner store in WA, so no I hadn't heard of it. I'll go check it out though

Looks similar to the one from Big W - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/227816. That was for $10 from a RRP of $20.

  • Aww man… I bought the normal one for $10 just after Christmas at Big W. The animal one was $7.50. The normal waffle iron works well. Not bad for $10. I figured the animal one would probably cost me more in electricity, since waffle that comes out is a lot smaller. I guess these appliances are one of those throwaway ones like kettles, toasters and rice cookers.

Seriously? Cost you more in electricity! Wow, that's a new level. Ozbargain spirit!

  • Full price on woolies online is $15.

  • Compared to the -really- up-market ($99 - $199) models
that H-N had in Dec., this one (& others like it) will
require watching+checking, while each batch of waffles
    is cooking.

With a good recipe, & the skill to check "waffles-in-
progress" (gently lifting, to see how easy it is to
separate iron from waffle(s), was my late Mother's
way to do it…), your results should be fine. YMMV.

      dont waffle on

  • I love cooking, specially for the kids. But I'm crap at cooking a good waffle and doughnut, no matter what I do I cant replicate them to taste as good as commercial ones.

    • same, seems we have to start an ozbargain cooking class

    • Home made waffles should taste better than any commercial ones. Maybe change recipe?

It could be a lot of things, sometimes it could be the appliance/cooking vessel sometimes it is the recipe and sometimes it is your technique. You could try a few different recipes and see which one you liked.

I am not very talented in cooking, but I do try and make my methods consistent wherever possible, so that I can tweak them. To perfect a recipe, it usually takes me quite a few goes, armed with my thermometer, digital timer and digital scales. :)

  • Anyone like to share their favourite waffle toppings? Mine is crunchy peanut butter and honey/condensed milk.

    • Gotta try yours! Mine: Icing sugar mixed with cinnamon, "Bonne Maman" marmelade, Maple syrup.

I think regular price is $10 as i purchased one around a month ago.

I have to say, it makes a fantastic waffle and hasnt broken on me yet.

  • I brought one from target just after xmas for $15 :(

Anyone have a good waffle recipie? Ive tried a few from google, but they all turn out like sqaure ommlettes (really eggy taste)

    • This recipe from artofdessert is vegan so egg free and won't have that problem

      Best Vegan Waffles Ever
      Makes about 8 waffles
      Allergy note: contains wheat ingredients

      3 cups flour
      2 Tbs baking powder
      1-2 Tbs sugar (optional)
      1/2 tsp. salt
      3 cups rice milk
      1/3 cup orange juice
      1/3 cup vegetable oil
      1 tsp. vanilla extract

It works really well, a lot of waffle places waffle's are actually vegan friendly so egg is defs not required. There's a pic of the finished product on my Instagram.
