    Gift cards from a business in financial distress. What could possibly go wrong? :)

    • +4

      Well given they are owned by woolworths i'd say you'll be fine. The bad PR on their other ventures would be enough for them to honour masters cards at the supermarket.

        LOL, Dick Smith were recently owned by woolworths too….

          4 years ago.

        • lol did you just say recently lolol

          @Expon:

          4 years ago.

          Went downhill very quickly since they took it over, not unlike the Masters saga…

        • @jv: I dont get your point?

          @holden93:

          lol did you just say recently lolol

          Dick Smith has been around for almost 50 years…

        • @jv: Our planet is 4 and a half billion years old yet we don't say we recently evolved into the species we are today.

        • +1

          @holden93:

          The opposite. Scientists commonly say that the evolution of our species is very recent. Moreso, relative to geological time. Just sayin.

        • @artfuldodger:

          I have heard this around quite a bit as well. Especially when trying to explain/make excuses for certain behaviors/ways of thinking.

        • @artfuldodger:
          You remember when we lived in a cave? was totally only recently…

          lol ofc if you think of it that way the entire human existence was of a blip in time but in the context of this conversation recently for dicksmith isn't 4 years id say recently is a year max.

        • Dick Smith was already broken when Woolworths sold it. Why else would they get rid of it for a bargain basement price?

          It showed very similar signs to GAME which didn't last very long.

          Source: i worked at both

          @holden93:

          lol. It was your bad analogy, not mine.

        • @artfuldodger: Why are you even talking to me?

        • @Putnum:

          Please dont join KFC :p

          Sorry eh, it sucks. I've felt the stick before, although different circumstances.

        • @holden93:

          its an internet forum…it happens.

          chill…breathe…..relax

        • @artfuldodger: you seem to of not understood to hidden message that I do not want to speak with you.

        • @justtoreply: i work for the government now 😂

        • @holden93:

          And yet, paradoxically, you keep talking to me. lol.

          @Putnum: Every place you work was/is in deficit!

          @Putnum:

          Lol. So do I… Now I'm really scared

        • @jv: more than 1 year after DSE was sold, their giftcards can still be used in Wollies store.

    • Stack em till the cards come down I suppose.

      1. Buy Gift card @ 7.5% off
      2. Use CR for 2% off
      3. Use code HARDWARE for additional 10% off
      4. Pickup purchase and go to counter with invoice and Ad for $20 gift card
      5. Winning
      • HARDWARE code and CASHREWARDS won't work together.

      • How long does it take to get the card from Cashrewards?

        • +1

          Usually I get them within a few hours.

        • Took me 2 days. don't know why. paid via credit card.

        • @zerog101: Mine took 29 hours - Mon 9:45am to Tues 12:15pm

    Get $20 Gift Card When You Spend $100

    Is it a Dick Smith one ???

    • +1

      very original…

  • +1

    Wish it were $20 per $100 spent.

    • +1

      You should wish it were $100 per $100 spent. That is the OzBargain way.

    Did Dick Smith management team end up at Masters?

    • I know a lot of them went across when Masters opened. Some were absolutely useless.

      • Truely? I wonder how much that has contributed to the Masters problem, seeing that one of the problems with both businesses seems to be cultural.

        • Woolies attempted to and succeeded to poach a lot of Middle Management (mostly Store Managers) from DS to Masters just before they sold off/split the Dick Smith business to Anchorage.

  • I'm guessing it will be in tomorrow's catalogue?

  • The question is when Masters will be all closed down and after the closing-down announcement, whether you will have enough time to use the gift cards 'wisely'.

    Private equity funds see no future in it, even with dirty accounting tricks.

    Woolworths' Masters partner doesn't want it.

    Woolworths itself doesn't want it.

    The business is losing big money…..

    Closing it all down and write it off ASAP seems to be the only way out. And I bet if woolworths announce closing down of Masters, their shares price will jump big time.

    • use the GC while you're there, why wait?

  • Does this stack with the Hardware code??

    How come Masters in Victoria doesn't offer this ?
    Will print out work in Victoria Master :-)

    • Give it a try and report back :)

  • is it only for NSW

  • Anyone got hold of the Masters VIC catalogue and see if its valid in VIC as well ?

  • Called the Adelaide Airport store and they didn't know anything about it, but I suspect they were not being overly generous on the phone, as the person I spoke to started to mention the 10% off storewide deal but I could hear a co-worker stop her halfway after which she mumbled something and then only mentioned some deals on Hills Hoists and a few other specific brands..

  • Anyone tried in VIC ?

  • They had a bunch of catalogues on the counter at the Northmead store when I was there today. Not sure if you can stack it with the 10% off code, probably not unless you get a clueless operator. I wasn't buying $100 of stuff so I couldn't try. They accepted my comically oversized barcode printout…. and kept it.
